For us it would be music and alarms/timers. And with Harmony Hub, it can turn the Apple TV on and off. That seems very plausible except for the facts. When asked what people use the echo for the tase majority say playing music.

We have iPhones, an iPad, Watches and an ATV4K. No Airpods or Homepods. Did it say how big the sample was and if there were varied ranges of age and other demographics?A? What? Where is the catch? I absolutely don’t believe that legitimately more people in US owns ATV than AirPods! Maybe they surveyed like 20 people walking out of one of these cable provider HQs, where they give ATV for free is you buy their cable subscription? Then yes.
I need to look into this. I don't understand if there is volume that works on the original remote, the volume does nothing on the harmony remote. Everything else works fine. Now you can make it learn any third party remote, like Harmony.
Yea it's ok but has three big flaws for me:It is not the best remote out there but it is fine. There is no need to bash the remote because you can use any remote and this has been pointed out hundreds of times if not thousands yet people still come here and complain.

The appletv I have is 5 years old. I bought a new Samsung SmartTV that is amazing back in November so I no longer need this AppleTV. I moved the appletv to the tv in the guest room and it works fine there. But when it dies or netflix stops supporting it I won't be getting a new one.
Gee Tim Cook has not provided a new model of the Apple TV since September 12, 2017. If we are having so much fun with Apple Silicon improvements, why can't they release a new model?
Other than a faster GPU for gaming, there's not much reason to upgrade. It already runs 4K Dolby Vision/Atmos, so what's the features it need for people to look at an upgrade? 8K?The hardware is ready, has been for a few months.
Probably there's some functionality that really makes the device pop (perhaps gaming related?) that requires tvOS 14 and perhaps even links into iOS 14 and the other updated OSs?
In other words Apple is afraid if they just release it with tvOS 13, it doesn't look like much of an upgrade, so it has to wait until all the new OSs are ready for release (end of next month?)
Frankly, if they came out with the next gen ATV, and it was basically the current one but with 3-year newer chips (because spec bumps are always nice) and a remote with the same exact control layout but in an ergonomically designed chassis (less thin, less slab shaped, easier to orient in the hand without looking, easier to pick up off a table without looking, more grippy), and build Find My or similar into the remote so I can order it to chirp, just like my watch can make my phone chirp... I’d be all over that.Other than a faster GPU for gaming, there's not much reason to upgrade. I’d love an update to Apple TV that can send a signal up the HDMI cable through my receiver and into my LG TV that fries the circuitry in the LG TV responsible for popping up “a software update is available for your tv” messages. I’ll pay extra if it fries the circuits responsible for “soap opera mode.” (Though I think I finally got that turned off, which required going into the settings on the tv for each and every possible display mode, and turning off motion smoothing, sharpening, and all sorts of crap for each).Frankly, if they came out with the next gen ATV, and it was basically the current one but with 3-year newer chips (because spec bumps are always nice) and a remote with the same exact control layout but in an ergonomically designed chassis (less thin, less slab shaped, easier to orient in the hand without looking, easier to pick up off a table without looking, more grippy), and build Find My or similar into the remote so I can order it to chirp, just like my watch can make my phone chirp... Separately, the “Wireless Audio Sync” feature, where the ATV uses an iPhone to listen to the sound that eventually comes out of the speakers and measures the audio delay (so it can henceforth compensate for the delay, to make movements match sounds)... I’d like to see them extend that so the iPhone watches the TV screen during that test, and precisely measures both the audio and video delay, so the Apple TV can compensate for both. It probably wouldn’t make an enormous difference, but it seems like an obvious refinement.
Yep, that’s totally possible, I’ve seen it in numerous documentaries like “War Games”, “Sneakers”, and “Swordfish”.I’d love an update to Apple TV that can send a signal up the HDMI cable through my receiver and into my LG TV that fries the circuitry in the LG TV responsible for popping up “a software update is available for your tv” messages. I assume this is possible, because ive seen that sort of thing happen in movies like Independence Day and Hackers
That‘s why i don’t use my tv speakers. I want my tv to just be a dumb video monitor.Yep, that’s totally possible, I’ve seen it in numerous documentaries like “War Games”, “Sneakers”, and “Swordfish”.
The weird case I’d like Apple to implement that they probably actually could, would be an on-screen volume control that’s discrete, like a two digit number in one corner that fades after a second or two. Yes, even though that’s not the AppleTV’s responsibility. I use the ATV4K for 99% of my TV viewing, with it controlling the volume via HDMI-CEC, but my Vizio TV offers the choice of either no indication of volume, or a garish banner that covers the bottom 20% of the screen for six long seconds after you stop adjusting the volume. I don’t expect Vizio to do anything about it, but Apple could, if they were feeling charitable.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard sound produced by this TV’s speakers, its been connected to Sonos since I set up the TV. Yeah, I want it to be a dumb monitor too. I use the AppleTV and its remote for everything. But the AppleTV won’t do an on-screen volume display, and the TV’s choices are “none”, or “really obnoxious”. I can live without it, but those little annoyances are wearing. That‘s why i don’t use my tv speakers. I want my tv to just be a dumb video monitor.
