What's on your phone that makes so much storage necessary?
80 GB of just music and about 40+ GB of images and videos.
Music... I have 97gb in flac music and 11,500 songs in the music player (another 102gb).
I'm only using 20gb currently. I was just too impatient to wait for a 128 jet black and jumped on this one!
120+ GB of music (used to work at a record store in the 90s), many GB of photos, anticipated increased storage usage due to Live Photos, 4K video, 12MP photos, etc.
Ah, the nostalgia.
I remember when I made my first Personics cassette tape. Good times.
90 GB of music and still growing, photos (and live photos that will take more space), videos, a few large games... 256 GB means I don't have to worry about space and I like that, and the simple fact that I can have my entire library on my iPhone is just too cool.
about 90GB of music (11,000 songs), 200 video's, a few apps etc. Not a heap of photos, but I'll likely add more soon.
What's on your computer that requires this much storage?
Games, movies, music, pictures, videos.
Lossless music, mostly. But I also like having lots of photos and videos stored locally. I readily concede that 256 GB would be overkill for most, but it's really nice if you like having your stuff on your phone instead of in a cloud.
I got the 256 and its totally overkill for me. I stream all my music from Apple Music and also don't usually take a bunch of pics and vids, but I like the mindset of having enough storage to do any and everything I want to do if it came down to it.
Seems like a total waste to me to have all of your music on your phone when you probably actually listen to .01 percent of it over the life of the phone.
That totally depends on the person and how invested they are into music, let alone their music.
It's not necessarily listening to all of it, but it's good to have it installed multiple places in case something happens to your computer and backups, you still have it installed on your phone.
Also, the 256GB (not sure about the 128GB) has been shown to have faster write speeds over the 32GB. So from a performance standpoint of transferring stuff to the device, I don't know what effect this would have long term though or with apps/games.
Good question, Jane.
1 GB storage on a phone won't be enough. Nor would 1 TB be.
It's how life is.
People with 500 mb hard drives can't imagine filling up a 1 TB drives.
Those with 1 TB wonder why they didn't buy 3 TB.
And once you have 5 TB of data, you say to yourself, how come it is still full?
It's just how it is. We keep what we need, we archive what we want to keep. We backup as we increase our data. And we can do more if we can store more.
People on 4 mbit internet with a small laptop screen ask me why I have an interest in 1080p content and don't realise my cable connection sucks down media in a matter of minutes. 500mb drive wont' be enough for me.
If you don't take 4k video on your phone, dont have a large library of music you want to keep around. Rather have offline storage for certain dropbox stuff than always downloading it over and over again etc.. then 32gb phone might be enough. Others might desire 256gb.
In the future if we have a 1 TB phone.. I am sure there are people who say 'i need 2tb, because i backup my macbook ssd to my phone ..' or whatever
If you're going to criticize our choices then this thread doesn't have much of a purpose. Suffice it to say that different people have different needs.
not just music but for photos, films, tv series over the years. So going forward as I get more photos and stuff I will still not need to ever worry about storage.
I have 256GB on my 7 plus and ipad pro 9.7
Not if you commute on a daily basis 1 hr minimum one way, sometimes 2-3hr
And even if you go gym 4-6 days a week listening to music for over an hour each day. Depends how you use your phone I guess but to me stuff like a lot of music is huge.
just like for those who travel alot and watch lots of films/Tv shows
I'm looking at copying my FLAC collection over to my phone next, which app do you prefer? I did a test with VLC but it didn't seem to load the embedded album art.
110GB of music, about 100 4K videos, maybe 20 or so movies, and my photo library. I think I have 90GB left. I wanted to stop streaming so much, lower my phone bill, and have everything on my 7 plus. I was able to cut my phone bill in half.
