Yes, we use the same restrictions on our Apple devices we enroll thru DEP & Apple School Manager.

Our MDM controls what wireless VLAN to use, apps only that are vetted, and lock out iCloud/FMM/iTunes, etc...

We also restrict student devices from using fingerprint ID on iMac/Macbook as well as face ID on our iOS devices.

We do this prevent a student from locking up the device making it impossible for us to recover and restore the device should the student leave or break it for Apple service.
AHHHHH so it makes sense now why 256 has no fingerprint scanner!!!! I get it.
I do get annoyed my work laptop has the tech but I can't use it lol.

Yes, my educational organization is going to buy non touch ID 256GB flavor in silver and test them out in 1000 staff/faculty users first.

The staff/faculty hate it that they can not download and install apps/programs - they have to ask permission from IT. Normal users are not put into the Admin group - only the IT dept has that power to install anything since cyberattacks are common with school districts.

If it's a success then we will roll out the student Neos to about 14,000+ students.

I ordered a 512GB Silver Neo, mostly just to give myself some more options on how I might use it going forward. The more I've been thinking about it, and the more I consider how it would fit into my systems, the more I've been considering returning it to my local Apple Store and walking out with a 256GB one. I'll keep waffling it over in my head. The extra storage headroom makes it easier to use for different roles around here, but having an extra $100 back would be nice.

Ya but it's only 100. And as soon as you fill up the 256 you will be wanting more. And touch if is good for security.

I'm in for an Indigo 512GB. I wanted TouchID! I had a 12" Macbook Retina when it was first released in 2015 or so and I kept that until it was basically not useable. Can't wait to pick it up on Wednesday at the Apple Store.

I ordered the 256GB version in citrus. I have an M2 Mac Studio and just need something for travel and coffee shop.

Because for my uses I don't need the extra storage, and it saves an extra $100. TouchID is nice, but I have an Apple Watch and it just asks me to authenticate using that instead so it's largely a non-issue.
Love my 2 Neos - 512GB w/ Touch ID - so much easier checking out!

How's the screen look after looking at your studio display?
Can't match the Studio display on my Mac Studio M1 Max - the wider angle and color depth is unmatched (except for the XDR).

Neo screen is perfect for me as I use it for travel and bedside use.

How much of the storage is used already out of the box?

Here is mine after signing into iCloud which is early in the setup process. But See the System Data and OS install at bottom.

Things to note, I have close to a terabyte in the Cloud, but it only loads thumbnails and file names until you pull them down.

One of the reasons I have the 512 is I have large data stores on external drives that I'm moving to cloud, and with lower amounts of storage It fills the drive faster than it can offload to the cloud. Once in the cloud the local files will offload if more room is needed.

I don't know what music creation is, I think Garage Band which I'll probably uninstall because I never use it.

Reviews say 190 available on 256. Though above real person screenshot shows fresh computer at 45gb for macos and system files, while my 3 yo mbp 14 (glorified web browser) sits at 60 now because cache is hiding (famous iphone issue bloating the os size).

I am getting 256 for my wife though. My 512 mbp sits comfortably full of 200gb of my documents (given my whole data sits in 2tb ssd), so running bare bones i would be struggling with 256 as i did with 128gb back in the day with 4kb free space left and computer froze with the same message.

I could definitely fill up a 256 GB drive quickly if I didn't use iCloud and a local NAS. I didn't need to have everything that is on my Mac mini on the Neo so I set the Neo up as new. I did go with 512GB on the Neo.
