When I realized that touchID isn’t required to input saved passwords on machines without touchID it made the decision to go 256GB that much easier.

Especially since the 512GB SSD is no faster than the 256GB either, and I have no intention of doing any SERIOUS work or editing on this thing.
Yeap, you just either put your mac password by typing in or it fills out passwords anyways on various forums.

Where touch id is really needed:
1) heavy shopping with apple pay. If you find yourself enjoying one clicking checkout pages on iPhone because of faceid, then having no touch id means you can not easily tap into apple pay or cards. Need to play with cc info and such.

Also not a lot of places really do apple pay checkout.

Also mac is not an iphone because iphone needs face or touch id to tap your phone at physical pos terminal as opposed to online shopping.

2) you are using mac in a public space and require password to unlock.

If you have brothers sisters and you want to unlock your mac (after first login - first login always requires password) then touch id is useful.

I do not lock my laptop. I mean it has a password because it is required for first boot login but after that i easily just close/reopen lid to my no password entry right to desktop page.

If you need to keep it locked, then touch id would be very helpful.

Long way of saying had 2 macs with touchid and never felt that it made my life easier going from 2012 no touch id mac. 2012 mac did not have touchid, but logging into banking apps and this forum was never a trouble that ever crossed my mind as annoying.

Fun fact, both of these issues can be negated with an Apple Watch!

1. If the website supports Apple Pay, then you can still use it via an Apple Watch. I was surprised because I'd forgotten that was a feature, but when I went to buy something online last night on my Neo and saw Apple Pay was an option, I selected it. It then gave me access to the cards on my watch, and when I clicked check out, I authenticated on the watch. Easy peasy.

2. Even on my machines with TouchID, I rarely if ever use it to unlock the computer since I have them set to unlock using my watch. Open the lid, the watch pokes me, and the computer is unlocked by the time the lid opens.

I really don't miss it, and am glad to have the extra $100 in my pocket. I don't care how rich one is, $100 is still $100.
