Here is a recommendation for you. Photo storage will never become an issue if you do these 2 things:

1. Get Google Photos. It provides simple backup just by opening the app. Once they are in the cloud, you can consistently run workflow (#2 below) to clear your camera roll.
2. Get Workflow App on the Appstore and get the "Clear Camera Roll." You can place it on your home screen and run it with one click.

This is assuming you are comfortable with Google Photos...some people do not like being a product; however, I think it is a bad ass service. The speed, ease of searching, facial recognition, etc. Its great.

Yeah I have Google Photos, but for some reason I still can't hold more than 50 or so pics on my phone without it saying I'm out of storage. I don't even have a lot of apps. Maybe texts or saved snaps? My 6 is on its last leg anyway, shattered screen, scuffed up, slowed down. Need a new 7, hopefully 32 will be the standard.

Here in the uk we are going to get ripped on the prices of these.

The Note 7 just came out at 739£ and the 64gb 6S+ has been £699. With brexit and typical inflation can't see a 256gb coming in under £850!!

I'm never going to need 256GB on a phone. It's nice that Apple is finally considering that option though

Didn't want to perpetuate the system of Apple ripping people off on storage.

You do realize that pretty much everyone poor or rich has a smart phone nowadays. It's pretty much a necessity...also they're not paid off in flat chunks usually. It's not going to make or break me, which is why I chose not to take part in paying extra for storage that should be standard. It was a ripoff.

If you feel that a smartphone is a necessity and that Apple's ripping you off, you can always get a $150 smartphone from Samsung or LG or whoever with 8 GB internal and an SD card slot, or if price isn't the issue, get a Galaxy S7 with 32 GB internal or whatever. No one's forcing you to get an iPhone, 64 GB or otherwise. For that matter, you could always put all your photos on Google Photos and free up a bunch of space on your existing phone that way.

Vote with your wallet. Don't buy the wrong product for you, complain about it, and then expect pity from people on a forum. I'm as big an Apple fan as the next guy, but it still baffles me how many people buy the wrong product for them and then complain to everyone they know about how horrible their first-world life is. If you hate your iPhone, don't buy another one. If you hate your Samsung, don't buy another one. It's very simple.

Me? I really like how my Apple products integrate together and that I almost never have a problem with them. They don't quite "just work," but 99% of the time they get by quite well. But if you feel scammed when a giant corporation recognizes that people want a feature and will pay extra for it, and then charge for that feature, then maybe it's time to move on.

I hope Apple will indeed change the base storage to 32 GB, because I agree that 16 is pretty low. But I'm not going to go cry about it if not. I'm a sales associate at T-Mobile and can tell you from firsthand experience that 90% of the customers I work with still buy the 16 GB model anyway and that they don't come in complaining about it very often because the average user doesn't put as much stuff on their phone as the average MR forum member probably does.

Funny enough, I get far more complaints about the 8 GB of internal storage on those $100-200 smartphones I mentioned above, in spite of the fact they all have SD card slots. The typical reaction when I tell the customer that they can get an SD card and add more storage is "of course, they want to nickel and dime me for everything." Sound familiar?

More storage + smart connector+dual camera plus throw in the rumored black version for the aesthetics for a headset means one thing to me. AR/VR headset coming for the 7plus. Also lets not forget the remove of the headphone jack and using the lighting port for better audio and maybe a video connection to integrate better with such a device.

I hope the mentioned new sizes include a 64GB model. I currently have the 64GB model and have around 26GB free. I’m not wanting to purchase a 128GB model and have even more free storage and paying extra in the first place for the 128GB model.

Seems too big of a jump 32GB, 128GB too be honest.

You're combining my consumer perspective with a business perspective.
That is correct. The reasoning for that is that people (I'm not accusing you of that) generally assume the business perspective (well, why should they charge that when it only costs them 1/10 of that to make/buy?) when they talk about how much something should cost.

The best example is bottled water. People will pay $1.50 for 16 oz of water, when it costs 2 cents to produce, and 8 cents to transport to the store. It's truly a marketing miracle that people pay that for something they can get for free from a drinking fountain.

Then again, in Detroit or other places with bad water, I'd pay $10 for 16oz for water before I drink, or let my family drink that.

WTF dude, how do you do this?

The "hard drive" for the mini is nothing more than a compact flash card.

Here is a video showing how to take the iPod apart and swap the CF cards

CF cards can get pretty expensive when you get to that storage size. Cheapest Google found was a Lexar from B&H at $182.

The alternative is to use an SD card with an SD to CF adapter. Make sure the adapter is XC. The adapter is around $14, the SD card is $80 for a PNY at B&H.

Here's his updated video:

* you may find lower prices on Amazon or other sites - I did not check.

It's always better to have too much storage than not enough. You could use the extra space to store movies, videos, music collection, etc. The price of memory is constantly dropping as the memory sizes get larger and larger, and in smaller packages. Apple would really be moving away from their old ways if they only bumped the price $100 for the extra 96gb.

I think that's the whole point.

People like you and I are so used to the 64 gb model (I have about 23 gb free space myself) that when it is time to upgrade, we can only opt for the 128 gb iPhone. We can't go down to the 32 gb option because it will not be enough for us. This way, we have to pay what will likely be a higher price for an iPhone sporting that much storage, even if we may not need that much space. Which in turn means higher margins for users.

That's probably why Apple is introducing the 32 gb model only now, after they are sure the majority of 64 gb users can't downgrade.

But but but

That´s not UFS storage, not even the new Galaxy note 7 is compatible with it. That´s the standard storage against the standard storage. The first generation cards of UFS have an avarage write speed of 170 Mb/s and 530 Mb/s reading, and thats speaking of a external card.

iPhone users that elect not to use iCloud storage will be pleased to learn that another source has thrown its weight behind at least one iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus model having 256GB of flash storage.

iPhone_256GB.jpg

DigiTimes, citing industry sources, is the latest to claim the iPhone 7 will feature up to 256GB of storage, corroborating previous reports from Chinese website MyDrivers and Taiwanese research firm TrendForce. In July, The Wall Street Journal confirmed the iPhone 7 will start with 32GB of storage, replacing the infamous 16GB base tier offered since the iPhone 3GS. Accordingly, the new storage options for the iPhone 7 could be 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB, but it remains unclear if the 256GB tier will be exclusive to the larger 5.5-inch model as some sources have indicated.

The current storage options for both the iPhone 6/6 Plus and iPhone 6s/6s Plus series include 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB, with the 16GB base model in particular drawing the ire of some customers who have long hoped for a larger capacity at the entry-level price point. This year, it appears that Apple has finally acknowledged the desire for larger storage tiers at both the top and bottom of its iPhone lineup.

I just bought a thumb drive for $24.99 at Best Buy. Apple would make me pay $150 for that in an iPad Pro.

Backing up would be an issue, which tier of iCloud would you be buying to back all that up?
50GB isn't enough for my iPhone and iPad and I've got gobs of apps turned off.

And some people would need a bigger hard drive on older laptops to back up their phone...
