Or any number of note-taking apps on the App Store.

Not sure what problem Journal is supposed to solve. But if it's an OS-level app, it's going into the folder with Tips and Clock.

It looks like part of their overall “mental health” initiative, dovetailing with the “state of mind” tab in the Health app, the screen distance warnings, the sensitive content blocks and so forth. Making a daily record of your activities and feelings is very useful for some people in regard to their mental and physical health.

But as many have already mentioned, there are myriad apps available to address these things, from note taking to journaling to daily meditations and more. Why reinvent the wheel?

This also has weird resonance with the white board like Freeform app. Apple keeps trying to make these multimedia warehouses for people, both single user and collaborative. But I don’t see signs of these apps/features being widely adopted. Your question is at the root of it. Who is this for?

Anyone know if it’s possible to set a shortcut to unmute the iPhone? I have the action button set for a shortcut menu-I just can’t find an unmute option. Not a huge deal to swipe down to unmute.

Sad, but only 16 and 22 have even a little interest to me. And that interest is not that strong. How about we get some of the bugs fixed first (WiFi I'm looking directly at you).

The music I listen to is extremely personal. Why would I share that? That would feel like telling friends which "adult movies" I watch (of course I would never watch an adult movie).
This is an absolutely wild comment.
Sure, there are some songs and artists that I like that might be embarrassing to bring up to some people.
But for a lot of people, including myself, music is a very social thing.
People I know like sharing their musical tastes, I like sharing and talking about the kind of music I listen to, and every single day millions of people go to concerts to share a musical moment with other people.
Not to mention pretty much anywhere you go in public, music is playing somewhere.
In the car, in the store, the doctors office, in a restaurant…

I strongly recommend that everyone turn off the emergency alerts. They are pointless security theater of a kind with "active shooter drills" and "duck and cover" nonsense.

Amber alerts do more harm than good by creating floods of bogus "tips" that the authorities have to sift through. If you're an a predictable disaster zone (like a hurricane is approaching), then you'll have every opportunity to be warned in advance in other ways, and if you're affected by an immediate disaster (like an earthquake), then the same thing essentially applies after the fact, if your phone and the cellular networks are even operable.
The real issue here is that Apple notifications don't work reliably. Sometimes they get delivered, sometimes not. How can anyone rely on these emergency alerts knowing how buggy and bad Apple notifications are?

It would be great if this update made it so my ‘Pro’ iPhone 15 with it’s ‘groundbreaking’ A17 Pro processor could do Find In Note without glitching or freezing.

As a longtime iPhone user who has been using Android for the past month, I'm less and less impressed with Apple's updates and tired of seeing new features tied to new hardware purchases.

At this point, I feel like AAPLs spirit animal is a moleskine journal. I’m still grumpy about the typical lack of gaming support and the 8gb minimums.

Consider that there are a lot of people who may journal but don't discuss it with others.
Amen, brother.
I was thinking about writing the same thing but every time I comment about the quality of an article I get a private message from a moderator scolding me.
That shouldn’t happen. Are you sure you’re not misunderstanding the rules?
Did the creativity fountain all but dry out at Apple all mighty? The Journaling... ha... wasn't that something invented by Stone Age folks to track things around? Not even paper was needed for it. Are we witnessing actual technological progress or corporate profanity here?
Clay tablets and cuneiform. That’s how we knew that Ugg traded three sheep for footwear for his wife, and new skins to keep his kids warm through the winter.
Journalling? So you can write everything down and it can be used in evidence against you? As if we don't have enough personal information on our phones.
Yes, CSAM never really goes away, does it?
Notes is ugly and chaotic. But beyond that, yeah. I’m unclear on what market this journaling app is supposed to serve? I tend to agree with you that they should have done a ground up rewrite of Notes with these features and skipped a new stand alone app. There are already plenty of journaling apps.
Most of the journaling apps I‘ve seen were best used on a computer…not so much on a phone. But it HAS been a few years since I last looked.
You naughty man / woman. Yes, there are only two sexes.

Off topic? Controversial? Political? Bye!
It’s been at least a year since I had a post edited or removed. I’m just a good little forum user. Except when I’ve had too much coffee!
I would argue that if you’re writing down anything and everything which might be incriminating, you might want to switch careers. 😁
Or just mess with the algorithm. I remember Leo LaPorte once said on his radio show that Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV must be convinced that he was a pre-teen girl…what with all the show tunes and bubblegum pop music, plus the cartoons and Taylor Swiftesque music being played at his house.

You just have to be thoughtful about your attack on the Establishment media, and then just have fun with it. That’s all there is to it!

We already know you listen to Pink!
Will the new translate feature translate spousal blabbering and mumbling?
If they implement that, then maybe they can translate President Mumblemouth’s verbal stuntwork.
When can I tell my phone to stop playing Taylor Swift!?!

The solution is to not play Taylor Swift in the first place.
I did that once, just to see what all the fuss was about. Plus, I know I can’t quite call somethng “Janky” unless I’m familiar with that thing, right? So I did listen. And I learned that she was actually pretty good.

And now she follows me all around in the car, even when I’ve asked for Molly Hatchet or Aerosmith.
A nothing burger with a big helping of yawn on top.
Would you like to supersize that Nothing Burger (TM) with the large helping of whining and complaining?
Hopefully the 26th thing will be not going from 100% battery to 70% before I've had my breakfast.
You need to eat breakfast before 3 pm!

I have an iPhone 12 and I haven’t been denied anything.

Play Count and Last Played hasn't been updated since the 17.1 Update in late october.
What I just noticed is that my Mac (14.1.1) will update the iPhone's (17.1.1) and iPad's (17.1.1) Recently Played, my iPhone and iPad will update each other's Recently Played, but my iPhone and iPad wont update my Mac's Recently Played. Weird.

I assumed that button could be used to quick bring up Reminders. Nope! I wonder why not. It would make that button actually useful.
