do you think itll ever get sorted? the thing that concerns me is those who have very minor yellowing, as its a visual thing how can it ever be proved?

i think mine may have minor yellowing towards the bottom, 3 people in my house cant see it. 1 can....me! i wish there was some form of diagnostic you could run... i know you cant but im sure if id never read this thread then id never have noticed it..... now i have what do i do??? machine seems ok apart from this.

If the yellow tinge is there on your iMac, and on others it is not, then I would regard this as a "fault" that can be proved - surely the proof is in the pudding, it is visible to your eyes and others. Your argument to Apple is that you are unable to correctly colour correct images or use Apples's colour grading tool "Colour" with the screen being evidently unable to correctly display true whites.

i see what your saying mate,

thing is i look so hard at it i think im going insane and start seeing little pixies jumping around on the screen lol!

i cant decide whether its my rubbish viewing position not helping too as i think it looks different at different angles.

do you think its something they'll sort out in the future as the chances are if i get a replacement then im running a serious risk of getting a crappier imac than i have currently?

Therein lies the dilemma, this iMac is perfect in every other way except this subtle / minor yellowing. I've spent the last two weeks convincing myself it's not there but ultimately it is (albeit it a subtle variation on what others are reporting). Personally I'm going to hold fire and see what transpires and take a view on it in 2-3 weeks time - I seriously think the repair option may be what I ultimately settle on.

totally agree ^^^ im in the uk too and think id be foolish to risk a machine that otherwise works fine (at the moment anyway only 3 days old) and as you say maybe get the screen switched out! do you have applecare? im considering getting it, although i dont need it currently as im under my years warranty i suppose

Personally, as this is a new model and could be regarded as a "REV A" version I would recommend Applecare just in case there are issues further down the line. If money is a consideration you can always sign up to Applecare within the first year of purchase, but as you say, you are covered for the first year.

In the UK you are covered for much more than 1 year with a static computer of this price.

Applecare over here is a tax on the insane

Apple UK attitude is shocking (in general) and if you need any help taking them to small claims then just PM me....I've done it (more than once)

thanks for that mate.... ill defo have applecare then :)

but it offers me no advantages in the first year does it as im already covered

well... if your machine is faulty in the first year then they WILL NOT pick it up from you. You will be expected to drive to the store wherever that may be, and if the store can't handle it then YOU will be expected to drive to another store...all at YOUR own cost and YOUR time, in clear disregard to UK law.

Applecare gives you 'free' pick ups.

to all UK'ers with any issues. Register it with Apple immeditaley even if you don't want Apple to do anything yet, get it on the record straightaway so they don't think you are a bandwagon jumper...

You are correct and on all other products I never take extended warranties, however what you are referring to is a much more complicated and drawn out scenario. If you wish to take the litigious route then so be it, however my time and effort in arguing this legal point with Apple in the future is not worth it and the outlay for the Applecare seems more cost effective.

Yeah, I would raise it and get a case ref. then you can escalate it as and when if the issue gets worse.

well thats up to you, it costs nothing as all fees are paid by Apple, time wise it was 10-15 mins.

Apple have ZERO defense unless the machine has been abused. They know it and the judiciary know it too.

the last twice they didn't even contest it but wouldn't do anyhing till the court process was issued.

Like I say, Apple in the UK are as bad as any other company service wise if not worse!

thank very much for your help archipellago

no worries, I hate to see UK'ers get abused through ignorance or apathy or just plain old wrong info.

especially when you've already paid thru the nose for the privilege of running OSX on 'PC' hardware..

I totally agree with you that the law is on your side but then again you had to wait for both your cases to get to the "court process was issued". This is fine if you have the time to wait for this and the inevitable multiple phone conversations you likely had before you even got to this stage HOWEVER if you're using it for work or study you just need it to be fixed quickly and without any delay. A chargeable days fee for me to my clients runs between £200 - £500, therefore the cost of Applecare makes sound business sense. I guess it's a case of you either pay your money or take your chances. For those considering Applecare it's worth finding reputable resellers on e-bay - you can pick it up for a lot less than Apple sell it for - just research the reseller thoroughly as there are some charlatans around

how can someone else sell apple care?? is it all legit and accepted by apple then?

Totally legit, it's just like re-sellers. Many, many people do not purchase direct from Apple and purchase from e-bay BUT ensure you do a bit of reading around about it as, like everything on e-bay, there are legitimate sellers and also con artists.

thanks mate

I do emphasise the researching the seller and probably worth asking for any recommendation on this forum. As is always the case, buyer beware, however for a little effort you can probably get it for around half the price, or a little over that, than Apple sell it for.

Sadly, I just sent mine back, Apple paid for everything, no restocking, no shipping fees. I did have to drop it off a a FedEx Center though, no big deal.

US right?

Different kettle of fish.

They aren't allowed to charge a re-stock fee here in the UK (not that it stops them trying)

In the UK if a product is faulty then it should be returned, at minimal inconvenience and ZERO cost to the consumer....thats the law...black and white.

Apple UK on the otherhand insist you drive to an Apple store costing your fuel and time to return THEIR faulty product.

For me thats $17 in fuel plus 2 hours of my time and any other wear and tear.

wouldn't be bad if the machine was 'value' at its' price but its not..or if Apple didn't continually try to dodge their responsibilites.

Do you actually own this iMac? A simple yes or no will be enough? Only reason I'm asking is that I remember you told us a couple months back how you had sold all your Apple products as you thought Apple were so appalling and would never buy their products again. Interesting that you still need to frequent Apple forums if you have "divorced" yourself from the brand completely. For anyone else look at archipellago's posting history - makes interesting reading and makes one question his motives for his continuing participation in an Apple forum.

Yellow tint

My 27 inch duo core seems to have a slight yellow tint. I hadnt notice it until I read a few messages on the subject and did the band test. I do use it for photo colour editing and calibrate the screen.
When I change profiles in... display preferences /colour... the problem is less apparent to none.

Actually I could have had Fed Ex pick it up from my house but I just wanted to get out of the house so I could pick up some Fish & Chips.
