Please dont make fun of my situation :(
I m trying to get an iMac since they got announced.

WTF - Did you actually read my whole post, I was trying to offer you sound advice to help you get a satisfactory resolution to your problem.

Sometimes I really wonder why ones bothers when you get sarcastic responses like yours to advice given in good faith.

Sure I did! But I m not a native speaker and emailing the CEO of a company sounds not very realistic to me. Sorry, I dont wanted to sound disrespectful. I really appreciate any help!

This may have been discussed, but I haven't had time to read the entire thread...are refurbished models less likely to show the yellow tinge? We just ordered a 21.5" refurb, the $1199 model, and I'd rather not deal with calling Apple and shipping back and forth, especially since this is my parent's first experience with a Mac and part of their willingness to spend some extra money was that the hardware is supposed to be more reliable.

I reported a yellow tinge on my display a few days ago and just received this mail from Apple.

Dear x

You may have noticed apple has new LCD panels where the yellow tint issue has been resolved.
You can go to an apple authorised service provider and have the repair done without any costs. Apologies etc blah blah.

I have taken my 27" in to have the lcd replaced this morning

Take a look, does this system exhibit the dreaded yellow tinge?

I received a 27" iMac and am certain that it has the dreaded yellow tinge. What do you think?

I can't see anything really. Most of the discoloration in your pictures are probably coming from underexposed shots.

What I am seeing (maybe I am seeing things now) are vertical yellow bands. If it were due to underexposure in my shots, the discoloration should have been uniform across to board and not just in specific vertical areas across all the shots. Specially, since I changed the background from white to light gray in 3 of the 5 shots.

I hate to go through a return process so am looking at the experts here to chime in and let me know whether this is indicative of the yellow tinge issue or am I just seeings things :)

I see the yellow vertical bands as well.

They are just to the left of center. Another way to put it, is that the band appears several inches wide, runs top to bottom and is somewhat in the center of the left side ofthe screen, if the screen were split 50/50 left to right.

Looks like you might have to send it back....

I see some feint yellow bands, and a very noticeable darker band in between them towards the left side of the pics, but I've dealt with miscolorations like that before when I've taken underexposed shots of my tv screen and comptuer screen. I also see a lot of yellow in the very right side of the pics as well. I always find myself filtering out magenta and blue hues from my photos when I do so-- and I see a lot of magenta and blue hues in those pictures.

Could you set the exposure higher perhaps?

This is what I got out of your current pictures:

I returned mine for refund

I got tired of apple making excuses. They offered to let me keep it or refund. No more exchanges.

I did back in '07 when I had the gradient issues with my 24" mid-2007 machine but my i7 iMac is fine with no yellow tinge. They told me at that time that they did not have a policy of sending out new machines before old ones were sent back under any circumstances.
Did you get a bad 27" screen here in Japan then?

Yea, my first i7 was VERY bad that I had no option but called them for a replacement. My 2nd i7 is acceptable but not perfectly uniform anyway.

If so, thanks for the info. I shall keep it for future reference and next time won't take no for an answer.

Just say you are not able to take backup if they say no to you next time.;)

Careful

Hi guys, I joined just to say that I have received 2 iMac 21.5 inches and both of them have the same cigarette nicotine-like screen color. I went to the Apple store and exchanged the first iMac. As soon as I got home I noticed it has exactly the same issue as the first one I left at the store. I have also noticed that there are a good chunk of customers buying these iMacs without noticing the screen issue until god knows when.

I have a screenshot that will actually let you see the problem. Notice in the attachment below the "white color" of the window at the top left and the "off-white, cigarette nicotine-like color" of the window at the bottom right.

Even when this is not the yellowish tint some have noticed, it is a real visible issue that I have seen in many new 21.5' iMac. Unfortunately I got one of these myself.

I have contacted Apple and provided as much information as possible to have their engineers take a look at this. I'm suppose to get a call back in the next seven days. I was told by a customer support representative that they don't want to have people going back to Apple and replace the screen panel... So he will be calling me back in @ 7 days.

I advice everyone to take a good look at the new iMac screen. The issue is more noticeable with a gray wallpaper...

I cannot find words enough to describe how dissatisfy I'm with Apple. I had to return my iMac to the store for an exchange to correct the problem and still has not being corrected. I run my business on these machines and going back to the store for an exchange it is simply expensive for me - Backup, wipe out, restore fresh install and drive over one hour to the store while my business machine is offline, it is costing me extra time and extra money of course! For a big company this is not a big deal, for me, it is. I don't believe I've been threaten fair at all nor I have received a non-defective product for my money.

Trust me, I can be a real pain in the neck when it comes to defend my rights as a customer.

How is it possible the consumer has to go throughout these headaches when they have employees that get paid for quality control?

They know about this issue and they keep selling iMacs regardless the problem has not been solved.

Honestly, this is not what I expected from a company such as Apple. I should have known better.

The photo was taken with an iPhone. Sorry for the quality but the tone difference is quite obvious even in a low quality picture.

God bless

Alright, week 7 screen:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c104/twisted_metal_2/P1050041.jpg

Naturally, the camera gives off a lot of colors and shades the screen naturally doesn't have, but you can still get a good sense that it has very, very minimal yellow tinging. About the only place I could possibly make an argument for it would be the very bottom middle.

Asides that, it has some darker areas where the led backlighting wasn't as strong, but that's only noticeable on pure white screen-- end even then you'd have to look hard. All LCDs have this problem though, so I'd say this screen is acceptable.

Also I tested out for a buzz in the top corner of my iMac when i lowered screen brightness, and it was definitely there; but the only way you'd be able to hear it is if you had a completely silent room and you pressed your ear right up to the computer itself. I think a lot of members here are hypersensitive to the iMac's faults now :S

Yoni, your yellow tinge falls into the category 'severe' I would say.
I'm really concerned about this issue. I have had people that don't work with computers on daily bases to take a look at it and even people that don't know how to turn on a computer were able to tell me right away what the issue with the screen was. So yeah, it is comforting to know it is not only me being paranoid about the new iMac screen but in fact it is a visual issue that can be appreciated by different people. So many eyes cannot be wrong.

I have the feeling I'm gonna have a hard time getting this fixed. Main reason being that I'm not willing to go back to the Apple store again because I have done enough as a customer already going there once for the exchange. Second of all, I do not want to take one of my business machines down a fourth time when the computer should have been right from the first time. They will have to either send me a new iMac so I can swap them on the fly or reimburse my money over the phone and send FedEx/UPS to pick it up. I can get a better machine off of craigslist as of today.

Basically, I put over $1400 on Apple's pocket to buy a problem for myself. I'm not happy now and they will have to fix it.

Thanks god I decided to get just one and try it out before buying replacements for all my business' machines.

Week 7, huh?

Looks pretty acceptable. Let's hope others have similar screens. Many are waiting for some good news.

BTW, the BUZZ sound can be fixed. I'll try to find the link.

Re: Screen Buzzing

Take a look at these posts on the reasons for, and how to fix the BUZZ sound:

 here we go again...It is due to the way the brightness is handled with windows 7 vs osx .

Osx uses the lcd inverter to contol brightness windows 7 uses the video card thats all there really is to it if u wish to use the video card to control brightnes within osx download this and i bet ur buzzing problem doesnt exist ....Brightness Control 1.0.4 (from mac update)

Edit:: i will do one better download from here.... http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10429

No thats fine mate im here to help !.. Well it seems the osx software directs the brightness control to be done via the lcd inverter where as windows 7 and the brightness control app link i posted up seem to direct the brightness control to be done via the video card...... SO its 2 complete different methods of dimming the screen .... And yes when i used that brightness control app my problem was solved BUT and yes i say BUT ... IF u have power saving mode active under osx unfortunately the screen will buzz when it dims before sleep unless u untick that option in power prefs.

Return again or keep?

I'm on my third replacement now. Apple sent me "advanced replacement" unit. I had a chance to put them side by side. Which one do you think is better? Two attached images have normal and saturated photos of two displays.

Thanks.
