To the people getting their dates moved up, you guys don't have BTO right? I tried moving mine up but they said they cant because its BTO and thats the delay

I ordered a base 27" with fusion, got my dates changed from the 27th to 3rd, to the 21st to 31st

I have no idea how you guys are getting your shipping methods bumped up. I have called three times now to try to get mine bumped, and each time the person says it isn't possible.

I get the feeling that it was pretty easy to get shipping bumped up or a free trackpad in the first 2-3 days after November 30, but it doesn't sound like as many people are having luck with that now. I got my shipping bumped up on Dec. 1. I didn't try to get a free trackpad, but I wish I had.

Fine. You're right. Can I have my iMac now?

Sure.

I didn't actually attribute anything to you that you didn't say. What I did was interpret what you said, which is not the same thing. You did say, and I quote, "Absolutely crazy - all that money for a model that's now not going to be shipped until 2013." You can make a semantic argument that you were saying that spending all that money (...) was crazy rather than the people themselves being crazy, but it's a pretty small distinction. In any case, my point was that people have perfectly legitimate reasons to buy their iMacs now (needing to deduct it from this year's taxes, needing to spend funds before the end of the fiscal year, having a dead computer) and that's hardly crazy. I do think perhaps you missed the tongue in cheek tone of my post.

Anyway, I'd rather talk about iMacs than spend any more time arguing over semantics. I'm very much looking forward to the arrival of my new iMac.

Oy vey... Yes please, let's all stick to talking about iMacs please.

My delivery estimate moved from Dec 24-31 to Dec 20-27, shipping to California.

Same dates here on a BTO to Arkansas. I called twice today. The first time the nice lady explained to me that ALL of the iMacs are being expedited. I kinda questioned why others have been told differently and she didn't know. I had to ask her for a free item too. She told me that she has not heard of anything like that.

Well, after a few hours of pondering along with reading more folk's post about the free upgraded shipping and trackpads I called back. I went with the same strategy and called back. I just asked for free expedited shipping since others were getting it. I told him that I would really like to try and get my Christmas present before Christmas and admitted that I had already called and asked before. He took a few minutes to look at things and told me he had changed it for me. I couldn't resist asking for a wired keyboard. After being on hold for about 5min he came back and told me that I'll get the complementary keyboard on the 11th. I'll get the keyboard 2 weeks before my first Mac. That's two weeks practice before the real deal! ;)

Just curious, but have any of the folks who are on an education discount also managed to get a free track pad, keyboard, or mouse?

Thanks,

Bear

I called just last night and got expedited shipping and a wireless keyboard. I don't really condone trying to game this system or anything.. but when I called in to inquire about the shipping time, I just asked if they could tell me about other expedited options and if it'd be worth the money to upgrade. They just then bumped up the shipping to 2-3 day for me without even discussing any of the details. The lady did say that my BTO 27" was coming from China, so she couldn't upgrade it to next-day.

As for the keyboard, I honestly had been waffling between a wired and wireless keyboard. I ordered the wired keyboard, since it feels more useful.. but the clean look of an all wireless desktop had me in doubt. So I just asked if it'd be possible to make that change. And she told me that I'd have to cancel the order and lose my place in line. Without another word, she sent me a wireless keyboard for free.

So there it is.. Again, I think Apple's just embarrassed that they can't ship these computers out in a timely way. A $60 keyboard for free is pretty small compared to the huge margin I'm sure they're making on the iMac itself..

I called and got my delivery date bumped up supposedly. Is 2-3 day shipping quicker then standard?

Good theory, except that's not how it has worked with preorders (such as iPhones) in the past. When it has been built, it will switch to "preparing for shipment." Your tracking will show it to be in China. It will seem to sit in China forever. Then there will be a flurry of tracking updates, it will show as in Alaska for customs clearance, and then it will hit the normal channels. If you have next day shipping, you will be amazed that it can get from A to Z so quickly.

Darn! Thanks for the info. I couldn't decide if "preparing for shipping" meant in China or at UPS so I plumped for the latter. But, as you say, from previous experience, Apple must mean when it's been built and is ready for the container ship. :)

Is delivery estimate means the date shipped to your address or the date arrived?
I ordered on 30/nov 2-3 week ships
But my delivery est is about 3-4 week 21-28/dec

Absolutely crazy - all that money for a model that's now not going to be shipped until 2013. It's likely to be another iPad 3 fiasco i.e. customers will take late delivery only to see an upgrade a few months later. So glad I'm not in the market for an upgrade at this time, I would be well peed off paying all that for old tech.

Yup. The current processors, unreleased GPU at the high end (680MX), the new design and screen are all definitely old tech. Maybe I should just go back to indefinitely waiting again. New models are right around the corner, right?

I will accept that as a woman's apology then, which is slightly more gracious than my wife ever makes.

Something is up! Hopefully the first wave of orders are being prepared for shipment.

yep getting same message :( come on ...

With my delivery due two weeks away now, I would be hoping to see a preparing for ship this week follow by a shipped the next week....

Guy's do not get over excited Apple take this down every sunday for around 2-3 hours.. it would be nice to see 27" iMacs getting ready to ship but the site going down is normal practice on a Sunday morning. If you check my support profile that will not allow you to amend anything either...

Yea, it has been down for me before as well.

Why are people getting free items \? why would apple just give away stuff for no reason ?

what are you saying when calling up ? Where is my free stuff haha

Has anybody in the UK been able to have their delivery dates brought forward and got a freebie too?
We British generally don't complain about stuff, so Apple probably hasn't got a policy for giving us free stuff.

I am having trouble understanding why people keep ringing them up in the first place? Apple is not late on any delivery promises.
