Digitimes claims that Leopard may be delayed until October. Why? To include Vista support:

The sources pointed out that the launch delay is not due to software design problems with Leopard but instead is attributed to Apple's plan to have its new OS support Windows Vista through an integrated version of Boot Camp.

It should be noted that Digitimes has been notoriously inaccurate with their reports in the past, but a number of recent Digitimes rumors have been corroborated, if not confirmed. (LED-backlit Laptops, Apple Notebook with Robson Caching)

No Way!!! ......well I certainly hope not

I would see that kind of support coming in the form of a software update instead of delaying the whole OS for so long.

I hope to god their wrong, but the way MWSF was completely devoid of any Leopard update, especially any kind of announcements concerning the "secret features", I had my suspicion that it was way behind schedule. Here's the really unfortunate part, not only is the supposed delay caused by bootcamp support for vista, it gives Microsoft talking points by the fact that it is both late and possibly released after Vista's SP1 service pack.

No Way. Phooey

This has got to be one of these real leaks, from inside Apple, but leaked to send us all off track. (Kinda like Kevin .. from Digg announcing the 2-battery iPhone)

Quite simply, why on Earth would Apple delay their OS, so that it can have compatibility with a rival OS, that was already notoriously late?

It's a red herring.

It's hokum.

I imagine that the person that originated this bull, thought that it would be funny to suggest that Leopard is going to be late, to gain compatibility with Vista...which was very late.. Queue the inevitable conclusion....

My personal prediction is that it will be ready when it's ready. The day after it gets the go ahead, Apple will announce a special event for the following Tuesday.

I don't mind the OS being delayed (gives me more time to save up for it!), but it's ironic after all of Steve's posturing over how Vista was coming out so late...

Considering I set up vista on my colleagues macbook with minimal problems, this sounds like BS. We've even got it running more complex things like vpn, remote desktop, active directory and offline files. The only problem we encountered was that we had to install the drivers manually.

Im fairly certain that all thats required for vista support is a tweak and re-compile of the drivers setup.exe

...and this was on the readily available beta of bootcamp.

OH MY GOD!!!!

*RUNS**SHOUTS*THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLLING *endshout**

*Dries tears*

No way, I think it might be LATE spring, but I think that by June we will sure be worthy of Leopard.

*me hopes*

EDIT THIS IS FALSE FALSE FALSE

HOW can we have WWDC when EVERYTHING is LEOPARD BASED?

lets wasteland this and forget it ever happened. :(

Seeing how I just came over from the "DARK SIDE" last October, I am numb to when updates and new versions come out. Heck even after they came out there were service packs almost immediately.

Let them take longer if they need it. I myself am in no hurry

:apple:

Just in case it doesn't get seen in my previous post clearly enough:

HOW can we have WWDC when EVERYTHING is LEOPARD BASED?

This rumour just doesn't pass any sanity-checks...

As already noted - what's WWDC going to be about without Leopard on the shelves?

Also, the idea of a Vista-compatible 'integrated' Boot Camp holding up the release doesn't make sense for many reasons, but here's what I see as the most compelling:

The functionality Apple would implement is the 'integrated Boot Camp' bit, not the 'vista-compatible' bit. There's nothing inherent in the Apple-developed part of Boot Camp that needs to be Vista specific. The mechanism of booting an OS is agnostic to the OS you'll be booting. Note that Boot Camp happily boots Vista, XP, Ubuntu and many other Linux distributions. The only OS-specific part is the driver bundle which Boot Camp includes. 90% of the hardware in the Intel Macs is standardised, with driver support already available from each component's respective manufacturer. The other 10% (backlit keyboard, SMC, nvram etc) would be all Apple would need to code drivers for.

Load of nonsense.

I wouldn't be surprised if Leopard wound up being pushed back, but it certainly won't be to entertain Vista.

Agree completely ... besides, you CAN use Boot Camp to install Vista now, it just takes a little work to get the drivers installed. If someone like me can do it, I doubt that it's a huge technological challenge for Apple to alter boot camp to suit Vista ... I always assumed that they were purposefully holding back on Vista support to send a message ... don't install Vista, it sucks.

Not true at all, BIG announcements on Final Cut at NAB in April, expect to hear something about Leopard around the same time.

I agree. This rumor defies logic. Drivers should not be that hard to write given this much time. This rumor is just playing on a lack of knowledge about what Boot Camp is. Someone probably just shorted Apple stock and wants to cash in. Wait..scratch that, given the poor quality of this rumor, the creator(s) probably don't even know about shorting yet. They are just hoping to buy AFTER it falls (not that I think it will, since the street doesn't respond to digitimes rumors much).

Look vista up in the dictionary...
