iPod 2G iPod Shuffle is it shipping?

For the record, Jobs didn't say the shuffles would have the new headphones at the keynote, that was debated afterwards since he didn't say either way.

It also requires the dock to interface with a computer because it uses a different connector. The headphone jack serves as sound output, USB 2.0 data input (speed limited by the write speed of whatever low-cost flash memory they're using, same as before the 1G shuffle synced slower than the nano and the iPod because it had a much lower write speed on its memory) and to charge the battery.

I reckon it'll be about 2 minutes before we see USB -> 3.5mm mini jack cables on the market to negate the need to carry the dock.
 
with only 240 songs to put on it a slower sync would not matter as much as say the 30gb and 80gb ipods. :p
 
I wanna buy it for someone who's birthday is the 23rd October (the same day as the iPod's birthday actually) but I'm worried it ain't gonna be out till halloween.

Not entirely sure when Halloween is (last day of Oct?) but in the Financial report today Steve said that he anticipates shipping to begin at the end of the month and that demand was very high. I don't see it appearing for a few weeks yet.

calm down. ilounge.com confirmed new shuffle will come with new bud. dont worry.
 
Apples page shows the old buds, so who really knows.

They'll probably ship it with the old ones, then ship it later on with the new ones, to clear out the big stockpile of the older ones they probably have lying around.

iLounge already confirmed it ships with the new buds. They got a look at the box and the contents at the launch last month.

I also bet we'll see Dock connector adapters soon too.

What I'd like to see is a little USB "stick" like device that just plugs into a USB port and provides a male 1/8" port for connecting the shuffle. So then you can carry it with you wherever (or in a little pouch) for easy access like a Flash drive :)
 
apple doesn't make the headphones. Apple doesn't directly manufacture anything they sell. Asus manufactures the macbook. Foxconn manufactures the iPod. I am willing to bet that they buy these headphones from another manufacturer, in which case they could very well have an overstock and put them in with the new iPod shuffles until most are gone.

Are you guys really flipping out about a set of headphones that cost maybe $1? The new ones do sound marginally better, but they're still really pretty mediocre, so is it really that much of a dealbreaker? Most people I know chuck the included headphones post haste.
 
I now have an estimated delivery dat along with my estimated ship dat of October 31st. My shuffle should arrive by November 2nd! Still a two week wait... :(

I'm not 100% certain they'll ship on that date, but considering they were supposed to ship in October I'm assuming its reasonably accurate. I guess it also depends on whether Apple can meet the demand.

Your best bet is to call Apple as ask one of the sales reps.

From people in the know. They're hoping to sell on to every 3.5 people that come in for Christmas shopping. Much later than I'd hoped but then that's the Southern Hemisphere for you.
 
I asked my university bookstore, which has a mini apple store in it, when they would have the new shuffles. They told me they would be shipping from Shanghai on the 25th and that they would have them within 2 weeks.

If the Ipod was going to ship with the new earbuds then why does that image show the old earbuds?
