3:01 AM EST Pre-Orders Help...

If i get up @ 2:45 EST to pre order my iPhones 4S Sprint I should be able to get one right? Its not going to be sold out in seconds?

Last year for the iPhone 4 pre-order and reservation the servers from Apple and AT&T got slammed. Both Apple's website slowed to a crawl and AT&T's. I wouldn't count on it going better this year. They sold out in two hours I think last year, 700,000 units.
 
I think it's guaranteed that it won't sell out in seconds. What's not a guarantee is that the servers will work perfectly under the demand. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to bang at it for as much as an hour. Join us on IRC to commiserate: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1238587/
 
They might just keep taking orders and pushing back shipping times when supply gets low. I think that's how ipad2 worked. I remember getting a few days shipping and the next day, the shipping times were 2 weeks.
 
Extra server capacity is purchased by AT&T and Apple as they think the demand might need it. I do not think there will be a crush for the 4S and they should have enough to satisfy most needs.
 
Only us nerds will be awake at that time. I would expect pre-order difficulties online to happen closer to the early regular business hours.

I'm ordering for my family and friends at 3AM, what a guy, huh? ;)
 
Last year I thought availability to order came prior to midnight PST.
It may have been about 11:40pm through Apple.
 
Are we sure about the 3AM EST time? Gizmodo has had the times listed since Tuesday as 12AM EST and 9PM PST? I know they could be wrong, but that really is the only place i've seen the times. Others just say pre order Oct.7th.
 
The difference between the iP4 and 4S launch is that 3 carriers will have it, so that is 2 extra carriers/websites to balance the load of pre orders.
 
What's the best place to pre-order from? Apple or AT&T? From last year, iPhone 4 orders, some received theirs a day early...were those Apple or AT&T pre-orders?

I ordered at 3 pm.. Yes pm and got one just fine.



Use check for change the firefox plugin.. And set the sound high and it will wake you up when it goes live. As well as scare the **** outta ya. Hahaha!
 
Was it people that ordered it from ATT that got it faster or Apple that got it faster last year? I can't remember.

The ones I know for sure who got it early ordered straight from Apple, but there may have been some from ATT too. I would order from Apple if you want the best chance of getting it early or at least on time.
 
While I believe that pre orders will begin at 3:01 AM EST... I just wanted to share this with everyone. I wanted to confirm that was indeed the time and this is what I was told in the Apple store live chat.

• That seems to have been speculation. Although possible, Apple has not announced a specific time for pre-ordering to begin. I personally recommend checking our site at your convenience early Friday morning (this is what I plan to do as well)

I got my order through at 7:30 PM eastern and got the phone a day early. From Apple's website that is.

I think I will be getting up at 3 to try to get mine. If I run into too much trouble I will just go back to bed and then try again when I get up for work.
