Won't work without SHSH stored for 3GS

I have a question I have been - in vane - looking an answer for in the past couple of hours, so I thought I would ask your help:

I have the ibec and ibss folders I saved for my 3gs, is it possible for me to restore in dfu mode?

My iPhone was j/b and ul with blackra1n/blacksn0w on 3.1.2 before experiencing the symptoms described in this thread.

Unfortunately, I have zero experience with the ibec and ibss files, have just restored using SHSH with modified hosts file.

Perhaps someone else can give you detailed instructions.

Did you try Googling "3GS restore with ibec and ibss files"

im having ths problem now....i put it in recovery mode to restore to a custom 3.1.2 but keeping getting an error "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1600)"

what should I do?

First of all thanks dhlizard for your insightful help and effort you put on answering every question that MR forum members like my ask, you are a great resource for us jbrakers. :)

I promised I would report, so here it is. I tried your suggestion, but all I could find were guides on how to capture ibec and ibss files and none were on how to use said files.

So I left this morning for work desperate and hopeless. The iPhone was attached to the usb cable linked to my MacMini and before leaving I noticed that it had on the display the charging icon that appears when it's out of battery with the plug and bolt symbols. So I wall plugged it and left for work. When I came back a couple of minutes ago I went to pick it up and to my surprise the iPhone had revived and now works perfectly!

This is so weird. Now, I checked to see if I had saved the SHSH on cydia's servers and I found this on my cydia's home page: "This device has SHSH's on file for iPhone os: 3.1 3.1.2 3.1.3".

My questions now are: will I be able to restore in DFU mode in future, should this happen to me again? can I save the ecid on my computer too? if yes how?

Thanks a lot :)

Yes, since you have 3.1.2 SHSH blobs stored, you can use Saurik's restore method

or

If you phone craps out and you have old bootrom (doesn't work with new bootrom)just put it in recovery mode and use iTunes pointed at a custom restore 3.1.2 IPSW to restore to 3.1.2

Yes I have old bootrom so I can restore without using Saurik's method, did I get it right?

As long as your phone is currently jailbroken (not restored to say 3.1.3) you have old bootrom and can get into recovery mode, just point iTunes at custom restore 3.1.2 IPSW and you should be able to restore it to 3.1.2

The problem is not with the jailbreak, but with the unlock.

The response was to bmacir, that is who I quoted.
My apology... just skimmed over the thread and didn't read in detail....

On another note...
If someone finds an answer how to put custom firmware and unlock 3.1.2 with out saved HASH files, please post it here. I am tired of looking at other endless forums with no answers.

i'm having the same problem

Had my 3Gs with 3.1.2 base 05.11.07 with blackra1n, but suddenly, whitout doing nothing, it stucked.

After that, i couldnt restart it.

Tried almost everything, uploading custom ipsw, blackra1ned it, but when installing ultrasn0w, it looped on the apple screen.

If anyone gets the answer to this problem, please post it.

Thanks,

EXACTLY same problem. (3GS customer firmware 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07)

what i guess:

1)maybe voltage of bettery decreased, make hardware perfomance little bit different

2)i have clicked "restore" WITHOUT pressing SHIFT key, and then cancelled at last warning. maybe ITUNE write something to baseband during that time.

any real hackers can discover it?

customer firmware need recovery mode.
it will be error 160X if put iphone in dfu mode.
well, i've tried this in just about every conceivable fashion now.
used pwnagetool to put it into dfu mode, but it didnt make any difference. tried 3 different ipsw files (stock, custom and one i made with pwnagetool) and always get the same result....itunes says it's preparing to restore, then as soon as the progress bar appears under the apple logo on the phone, i get the same "iphone cannot be restored. unknown error (28)". then it's back to the "connect to itunes" screen :(

thanks for the ideas, keep them coming!

it's computer problem.
reinstalling the system will be easier than trouble shooting

IT worked!!!!!!!!! :)

THANK YOU!!!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!! I had to put the BBUpdaterExtreme in the bin folder, and left the other files in temp folder. It worked! so far the phone is working ok and unlocked. I will let everyone know if I have problems.

Once again Thank YOU!!!!!! It works now!
iphone was 3.1.3, downgraded to 3.1.2 custom firmware pawned, then baseband restored to original by the method from the link above, then unlocked with blackra1n. :):):):):):):):):):):)
