ExxonMobil today announced that it is the first U.S. gas station chain to offer 3% Daily Cash to customers who pay with an Apple Card using Apple Pay at Exxon and Mobil stations. 3% Daily Cash is now available for fuel, car washes, and convenience store purchases at over 11,500 Exxon and Mobil stations across the United States.

To avoid inserting their card and touching the pin pad, Exxon and Mobil customers can use the Apple Card with Apple Pay in the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app for iPhone to pay for fuel at the pump on a contactless basis.

Other brands that offer 3% Daily Cash with Apple Card include Apple, Nike, T-Mobile, Uber, Uber Eats, Duane Reade, and Walgreens.

Nice addition. I wanted to get that in there before someone inevitably chimes in telling us about the dangers of credit card use, which happens every time there's a post about Apple Card.

That's a good addition, although many of the ExxonMobil stations around me changed to other brands, so I probably won't be able to use it much personally (when I used their app with Apple Pay here and while traveling, it was pretty good).

Anyone else annoyed that gas pumps don't have NFC payment terminals on them yet? I wish I didn't have to fumble with an app and could just Apple Pay at the physical pump.
Some do - i used one a couple months ago, for the first time in years, and it had NFC. I assumed they must all be switched over now since I haven‘t used a pump in so long :). Maybe just a silicon valley thing?

I wonder why these promotions keep going. I mean I’m sure some stores will or have dropped out, but these have been going for a long time. Nike has been 3% since Black Friday if I recall.

Maybe the businesses are seeing an uptick in sales?

Don't forget those of us who always chip in with

"Wish they would release this in the UK"

too! :)

Dang - why haven't you finished the transition yet? I switched myself to a Model 3 just over two years ago, and the plan is to switch my wife over to a Model X or Y within two years.

We keep our cars a long time. Got my Tesla in 2013 when my prior car died (plus it was a 2-seater and we had a kid). When my wife’s car dies, we’ll see what happens.

Depends where you live. Gas pumps that take NFC payment are all over Phoenix. View attachment 929046

The sad thing is that I did see one of these at a Turnpike rest stop, and I got all happy and enthusiastically brought up Apple Pay, and nothing happened. I looked like a fool waving my phone at the pump.

So some pumps might have them, but I've never actually seen a working one. :(

There's quite a bit in the Midwest, too—Meijer has had it working on theirs from before Apple Pay was even a thing, Circle K has it on a lot of their pumps, and Speedway has turned it on at a lot of stations in the last 6 months or so. From what I've seen, there's a lot of Shell and BP stations that have the panels, but it's either disabled (no lights) or declines immediately. I've seen a few Love's stations have them working while traveling, too.

I'm guessing more will be enabled and retrofitted, but the pandemic may have delayed those plans.

That sounds like the ones I've come across that are there, but not working yet. What part of the country are you in?

They just retrofitted this pump two weeks ago to add it. It works wonderfully. The unfortunate part, it’s a Circle K, so the rest of the pump as you can see in the picture is dirty and poorly maintained and gas comes out very slow. Circle K doesn’t know how to send their employees out to wipe down the pumps at the very least. Some have bird poop right on the grade buttons that have been there for months.

wow it would be awesome if we could pump our own gas in new jersey.

You need to be a professional :)

When I was a kid my dad used to drive us across the border into Ramsey to get gas because it was much cheaper, even with having to pay for the person to pump. Of course, back then in NY you’d have to tell them if you wanted “self service” otherwise they’d charge you more. Are there full service gas stations anywhere anymore other than NJ?

true story. that was me yesterday)

Great news Synergy is right on par with Shell's Vpower. This will make it a tougher choice for getting gas.

I never allow them to pump my gas I hate people touching my car and no way id risk them putting in the wrong octane. I dont think they are used to someone refusing it they always seem so confused when I do.

How do you manage that (assuming you're in New Jersey or another place where full service is legally mandatory)? I remember taking a trip to Oregon a few years ago, forgetting it was one of those states at the time, pulled up at a rural gas station, was getting ready to pump my own gas and the attendant came running out in a panic. The pump was locked down, but they must not get many out-of-staters in that part.
