One handed use is MUCH better on an 8 vs X. I have both and use the 8 much more for this reason, and it's much lighter in the pocket..

I had an X for a month and a half so I can answer this question, at least for myself. You are right, the extra screen height on the X - all by itself - made one-handed use a fair bit harder.

    But...

When you factor in the fact that several very frequently used functions (like accessing the control center) have been moved to the TOP of the display, the iPhone X is a real bust for one-handed use. And I say that as someone with large hands (XL gloves).

This was part of why I returned the X in January. My own opinion is that it was an ergonomic disaster compared to the standard-size 6S, 7 and 8.

Privacy side, I think that Android has far surpassed iOS and runs way smoother. I own a Pixel 2 though which is stock, but the fact that their camera is superior mainly due to the software alone speaks volumes. The hardware isn't as good though, I think the S9 has the best Android hardware (apart from those dumb edges), so if they could combine that with the Pixels camera running stock Android then I'd snap one up in a heartbeat.

Personally, I'm looking more forward to what the Pixel 3 brings this year. Hopefully they can resolve the hardware shortcomings from last year and unveil a decent offering.

Thank you so so much for answering my question, I’ve tried it in the store several times but it’s not till you own it that you know if it is as easy to use one handed or not.

Im a happy camper with my iphone 8. Will keep it probably for 2 years. Next year a new battery and it will be as new as it gets.

The 4.7 size is easier to manage for the 8, but the X had the slim line and more narrow design for the newer form factor. Albeit the longer design for the X can have some reaching issues and add the weight, its somewhat difficult one handed. But everyone’s experience will vary of course.

I didn’t want to create a new thread so I’ll ask here... have there been any rumors of a new iPhone with the iPhone 8 form factor? I can never see myself buying the x as long as the notch exists. It would kill video consumption for me. Rather they just had a full bezel like on S9

I have a Motorola Moto X Pure and it’s version of android os is almost pure stock, just a few value added elements. If I had not jumped ship to IOS, I’d have bought a Moto Z Droid I think.

You're welcome. I don't know how much of that I would have figured out in two weeks. I bought the phone (accidentally) a few days after the long holiday return period started and I kept it until early January, so I had a real chance to wring it out.

Honestly, I really wanted to keep it. The hardware is brilliant. Even FaceID worked great, at a hardware level. My issues really were that I felt that compared to the TouchID phones the iPhone X made a lot of things I do every day relatively hard or inconvenient, and one-handed use was one of those. These are all very personal calls (pardon the pun).

It's funny that weight keeps coming up. The X fits half way between the 8 and the 8 Plus. My impression wasn't so much that it was heavy as that it was dense. Sort of hard to explain if you haven't used one for a while. And that could be a sort of illusion on my part, translating "heavier" as "dense." I thought it felt really solid, in a good way.

The iPhone 8 Plus is actually heavier than the iPhone X. This may sound Confusing, but I think the reason others perceive the iPhone X to be heavier, is because its in a condensed form factor in your hand where it’s more centered/balanced and add the weight due to the stainless bands, glass and wireless charging components.
