207 Degree Farenheit MacBook Pro!!! burned the heck out of my legs!

Thats right...my macbook pro burned the Sh*t outta my legs when i set it on my lap on the couch.

i immediately went to istat and it was running right around 200 degrees F, while running hard on both fans...

something is seriously wrong with my MBP...its almost at the boiling point!!!

should i demand replacement or has anybody ran into this problem before???

also ive noticed pitting on the casing, and a whining noise from the laptop.

i guess its alwas probably ran that hot, just never noticed because the laptop is always on a stand. i wasnt even doing anything too intensive, just doing 5 or six raw file conversions...nothing big!
thoughts, advice?

Where's the temperature for the CPU core B? Did you switch off one core? Or does that program just display chip temperature?

And what version of the MBP is this? You only have a 60GB HDD? Edit: Oh, I just realised, you must have a BootCamp partition.

Edit2: yeah take this into an Apple Store. It's not a MBP, but the highest I've ever seen my wife's MB's CPU reach is something like 160F when pushing it at 100%
 
i'm pretty sure the program only shows the temperature of the chip. only shows CPU A and B on my MP (2 dual cores).
 
its a 2.0ghz rev a? mbp 80gb hdd, gloss screen, even as im sitting here, with iChat, and safari open, its running at 168 degrees!

don't want to sound rude, but your PM G5 is a dual-core and not a dual-processor, am i right? thanks.

back to the OP, my MBP runs at about 170-190F when playing DVDs on it. Applecare says that its fine. but i've sent my MBP in for logic board replacements (3 times!).
 
Do you have all the latest firmware updates?

The Core Duo chip is rated only up to about 100C (212F) when it'll shut down. I've heard of early MBPs and MBs getting up near that but it seems firmware updates have fixed this for most people (at the expense of having the fan coming on earlier for longer).
 
its actually shut off a buncha times for no reason, that probably is why.

playing a dvd is one thing where its got alot of moving parts going...but im not doing that intensive of stuff and its still running hot. when i took that screen capture, the fans were at 2000ish rpms, but really it fluctuates from 2-4000

they said that id have to send it in.

that would be great, but it is my only laptop i use for my photography business at the moment, and buying another laptop for a week isnt my cup of tea.

i feel like they should replace the damn thing. I'm on my second macbook pro, and when i DID have a second laptop (blackbook), i went through EIGHT of them till i found one that wasnt defective in some way outta the boxes.

-one burned and extremely unsatified apple guy thats glad his juevos arent fried.

see this thread for my MBP's 200 degree plus problem and apple's unsatisfactory solution.
 
the biggest problem is that this is my business critical computer. I cant just ship it off for a week and be without a machine. this poses the biggest problem.

i also noticed now that the front part of the case is starting to separate from the bottom case.

friggin rediculous...and thank god for burn cream..

i dont think apple should be pissing off members of the working press...
 
my macbook core duo wouldnt even get hotter than 80 degrees but now i have the core 2 duo macbook and they usually run at 60 degrees unless im encoding or something then they get hot

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but this is exactly why people who use computers for a living should have at least two. Do yourself a huge favor and go buy another computer, even if it's a cheap used PowerBook. I know it sucks right now, but in the future you'll be glad you did. I've always kept two computers having learned from having external monitors die on desktops and such.

Oh- and make damn sure Apple fixes the thing right. If they don't, bug them til they replace it.
