Apparently I had 5 Apps that wont work on iOS11 but only 2 I care about (our local Bus company ticket App and my Sony BluRay remote), deleted the other 3. I can't imagine the Bus company won't update but might give them a poke, as for Sony, the Bluray hasn't had a firmware upgrade for years but I am sure there will be another App that can do a similar thing.

What does this mean for pre-64 bit phones like the 5 and 5c? Will all newly released apps after the release of iOS 10 not work on those devices?

Probably just those apps which require iOS 11. I suspect that many developers will not require this for at least a year or more, some may continue to support iOS 10 for two or three years even. As long as apps are provided for iOS 10 or lower, the 32-bit versions can made available in the Store. Whether a 32-bit app is available is the developer's decision.

This was specifically discussed during the State of the Union today. 32-bit deprecation wont happen until 2018. This is probably a Beta 1 issue so they can test and show what's happening.

They haven't posted the State of the Union for public viewing yet.
The discussion in the State of the Union was about 32-bit support in macOS. (Basically, it's going through the same path as what iOS has already followed.)

32-bit support in iOS is definitely gone in iOS 11.

Actually you're referring to how they'll be handling the depreciation with macOS. iOS 11 will only run 64-bit apps and macOS will stop supporting 32-bit apps in about 2 years.

Unfortunately there are lots of useful and fun apps that are still 32-bit. Mercedes' official Roadside Assistance. Mmm Fingers, I can't live without this one. gps4cam photo geo tagger. Loads and loads of old games.

I deleted the ten or so 32-bit apps/games that didn't get an update since 2013 or earlier weeks ago. Surprisingly, the only 32-bit app I still have installed is Google Earth. What's up with Google, did I miss the memo that Google Earth was discontinued? I liked Tipulator, but replaced that tipping app with a pretty good new one. I kept CityTime on my iPhone mostly out of nostalgia. I used that application, which showed where on Earth it was day or night, since the days I owned my Palm IIIxe and Handspring Visor Platinum. I replaced that with Living Earth and MeteoEarth. I replaced the sunrise/sunset feature with another, even better app.

I wish the railway bridge building game Bridgy Jones would be updated, but it looks like the Polish developer that made it went out of business or something. It came out in 2013 and never received the new world/levels that were promised. Doom seems to be doomed and there's a few more games apparently on their way out. I replaced a ringtone creator with a equally good one. So I'm good, more or less.

Great news. A bit tired of old apps that looks like they were designed for an iPhone 4 screen. This news should be a kick in the butt for devs with older apps to spend some time updating them.

That only works if the devs are currently making enough app revenue to stay in business. Even with $21B in app sales per annum, over 75% of paid apps don't make enough for the dev to buy their morning coffee.

While I agree with the overall idea.... developers who let their app die on the vine will ensure that they will NEVER make money from that app ever again.

An hour's worth of work to update your app might only get you pennies in the future.

But doing nothing will get you nothing.

The devs have time. Most of the app devs should update their apps to 64 bit in coming months.

For those of you who don't understand why we jailbreak... Well, this is why.

Guaranteed, Cydia will have a tweak that will put 32bit support back in ios11.

Having a non jailbroken iphone, is like having an old nokia, compared to what we can do with a jailbroken device.

At the very least I hope Apple keeps signing iOS 10 for those who still needs to rely on 32bit apps
