What kills me about Phil Schiller is ever since someone on here posted a YouTube video of him during the iPhone 5 announcement with all the times he said "thinner, lighter". That's all I can hear when this guy speaks, and it drives me nuts.

Anyway, with this iPad Mini annoucement, I was scratching me head when he was talking about web browsing on the mini vs N7. The numbers this guy was throwing out there was insane. It was like 65% more screen real estate on the mini?! I think they must have some seriously good drugs on the Apple campus.

So, basically, it's an iPad 2 in a smaller form factor with better cameras and a higher quality screen for $70 less than the iPad 2 was selling for yesterday. :)

Except the Ipad 2 is running with early 2011 parts. Take alook at the competition (Nexus 7, Fire HD, Nook HD) before you go crazy.

Besides I would rather have the Ipad 2.

what's even more sad the 32gb model is $100 more. WTH? $100 for an extra 16gb? rip me a new hole.

Ok, I'll put my hand up to say I was totally wrong about what Apple would charge for the mini, especially given its specs.

I currently have in our family: 2 MacBook pros, 1 MacBook, couple of old iPods, 1 iPod touch and an iPad . I was holding out on the mini announcement before buying a 7 inch tablet.

I'll be honest, I thought it was going to be a tough decision, but with the released specs and pricing for the mini, the decision is the easiest one I have ever had to make. I'll be buying a Nexus 7 32gb for $250.

The sadist thing about this, is that if you read the comments in the stories covering the announcement, everyone thinks the same, this mini is way over priced. If someone like me , who has not bought other than apple for mobile devices can find it an easy decision to now buy a Nexus, imagine what the populous who don't have any preference are going to choose.

Sad day in my opinion, very sad. At least the iPad specs and pricing are competitive in the full size tablet market. The mini isn't even close.

Easy for you looking at specs. Because thats what Apple products have always been about... specs.
Let me know how you like dealing with Android, malware. Don't try to walk into your local Google store if/when something goes wrong. Google hates having to deal with paying customers.
Nexus does sound like the best competitor at the moment. Google selling stuff at a loss is really working well. Its heavier then the iPad mini and not much smaller given the smaller screen. Won't be able to run your iOS apps, music, videos etc. but you can find equivalents on Google Play. But don't assume apps are benevolent. There's no one minding the store. Put on your Window's hat. Prepare to manage your own machine.
If you're looking for the dirt cheapest tablet you can find, Nexus 7 is currently the best choice. Until Google releases their $99 tablet, possibly as soon as this coming Monday.

You really expected this thing to be priced at or below an iPod Touch? Seriously?

Yep, I sure do. So your opinion is > size = more cost? I'm not sure how any educated person would make that "ass"umption:eek:

----------

Do a parts comparison and then compare. I think you'd find that the iPad Mini, at COST, is far more expensive to manufacture than is an iPod Touch, and the Touch costs more to make than does the Nano.

This is purely logical pricing on Apple's part. Unlike Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc....they don't need to subsidize their products. They sell themselves on merit alone.

I think this guy is a major stockholder with some of his justifications for this stuff...really dude?

Whether is is worth 329 and up I don't know - I do know that it isn't worth that for me. As much as I love Apple products and I have them since the original Apple II, a tablet costing 329+ just doesn't have any worth to me. For what I thought I'd want to use a tablet to do - it just doesn't do it for me at that price. Hey, I'd love to own a Porsche Turbo also but it just doesn't happen to fall into my price range for what I need in a car.

Now if someone wants to give me both I'll take them.

Everyone agrees with you. If you are buying a Nexus 7 over an iPad, you are a sadist.

You've not read a single Apple iDevice teardown report have you?

I'll just save this for the reports that will flow out in about 2 weeks and then we can compare Bill of Materials between an iPod Touch and an iPod Mini and see which one costs more.

See you in two weeks or so.

If it had a Retina display...for $330 would just be awesome.

But it doesn't...

Holy smokes. It would be great if I could have bought my current used car for five hundred bucks. I had to pay, I dunno, five grand?

How old are you? Have you ever made anything? Folded an origami crane maybe? Cooked pancakes?

You might sound more intelligent if you just stated your point instead of being a wimp by throwing some trash around.

Tell me again what's wrong with wanting a Retina display on the iPad Mini?

Yep. Kinda like how the iPhone 4S is running with early 2011 parts. (Except the 4S is only $100 (15%) cheaper than the iPhone 5, instead of $170 (34%).) And most Android phones are running with 2010 parts and a 2010 OS. Older and cheaper sells.

Take alook at the competition (Nexus 7, Fire HD, Nook HD)

I have.

Besides I would rather have the Ipad 2.

Good for you!

$249 was my price point for the mini....I will pass at $329

But I'm sure it will be a fine device

Nexus has built in GPS. The WiFi version of the iPad does not.

I don't see how Apple justifies the $130 premium over the Google Nexus 7. That premium jumps to $260 if you want/need GPS. It goes to $310 if you want 32GB and GPS.

Because the Nexus 7 has not one high quality app.

Quite amusing. Now I know what to expect from Phil during the next keynote. Thanks a lot sir :p

He was talking about actual web viewing real estate after you remove the function buttons on both screens.

I just bought a new nano and am currently using an iPad 2. I may return the nano and eBay the iPad 2 (or sell it here if anyone wants it) and buy an iPad mini.
