Will you still be able to upgrade with the upgrade prices if your 3G isn't even a year old??

im interested to know what the upgrade process will be for current 3g owners? I got mine when the 3g came out, so what happens to people like us?

I NEED THAT 32GB iPHONE!!!

Really though, I'm getting that sucker A.S.A.P. My 16GB is REALLY keeping me for adding as much stuff to my phone as I'd like.

If the Pre had a 32GB version, I would honestly give it a look, but the fact it only has 8GB with no expandable makes it a joke compared to the capacity of the iPhone.

Hey all,

Yeah it is confirmed that the 16GB iPhone is marked EOD. I work for Vodafone AU and we have been given the confirmation that it is going to be EOD. Not too sure what the 8GB will be EOD as well or they just gonna keep a 8GB and 32GB.

I'll Keep u all update what will happen on our end here because Australia will usually be the first country to get anything if they are going to launch a world wide launch

It makes Zero sense to kill off the 16gb and keep an 8gb. I would think they would keep both the 16gb and introduce the 32gb, which I still believe. I have no evidence, it just doesn't click why :apple: would kill off their currently largest capacity iphone offering.

I'll believe it when I see it! Now bring on those new iPhones!

You would thnk they would drop 8gb lower 16 gb price and intro 32 to refresh the market. BUT with new iphones coming.. who cares

I TOOOO hope i can go from my 3g to the new one at upgrade price...:D

I really want my iPhone to be my one and only iPod, but with 80 GB of music and 80 GB of video, I can't see that happening anytime soon. I wish we can at least get 64 GB by next year at this time, but Apple has been very slow at increasing flash capacity, which they had been very good at with harddrive capacity through the 160 GB Classic era. They have definitely taken a step WAY WAY back in terms of capacity updates in the past few years, and really, that's what a multimedia device really NEEDS. I hope they get this through there heads in the next year or so.

Tony

Apple can only increase size with whats available on the market and obviously, their design practices can limit this too.

Gee... What's all the talk about wanting a 1 TB phone. Pipe dreams! 64gb is plenty.

One concern I have is the lit up back. It's got to be a battery drainer! (and a step back desgin wise with respect to other apple products)

I think a lit up Apple glowing is a bad idea, it will drain the battery. However, as someone has mention earlier, if they use the Apple as a flash, that would be amazing. The camera needs a flash/light soo bad.

I'm in the same boat as you

I think the current 16GB is being EOL'ed, and there will be a new 16GB & 32GB announced (new model). They might keep the 8GB "as is" and drop the price as an "Entry Level" model. This would appeal to people who only need a phone, ipod, web access, email, chat functionality and don't care about all the new features coming in the new model.

Man, do you even remember what you have? That's a buncha tunes ....

I only have about 5GB and I occasionally think "Who was that and where did it come from?" and have to look at what's playing ...
Don't forget about video... I've got well over 100 movies that are ripped for iPhone use and still great played on my HDTV through my MacMini (Front Row) -- each movie's about 1GB each so I utilize my 160GB Classic for traveling movies for the kids. We've got a Phillips portable DVD player with built-in iPod dock... The 50+ animated movies look/sound terrific on the unit.

I really can't wait until 2020 when iPhones will have at least a terabyte of space!!

Actually, it does kinda make sense. If Apple wants to make a cheaper iPhone, keep the 8GB model and drop the price. I see a LOT of people that don't care much about more than 4GB because they don't use the iPod much. On the other hand, you have us people who are looking for ways to smash a 2TB hard disk into that thing to have more storage than sanity allows.

i think the question we all need to ask ourselves is...

'am i prepared to replace my iphone every summer...?'

Do you replace your laptop and/or desktop computer every 9 months (or however often new models come out)? Do you buy a new car every year when the new models come out?

I actually don't care about 32GB of storage. I never filled up more than half of the 16GB.

What I really need is 256MB of memory. Apps are currently really tight on main memory available. That's the real problem for lots of 3D games and full featured productivity apps.

I think they will get rid of both the 8 GB and 16 GB, and price the 32 GB at $199 and call it the iPhone 32GB instead of iPhone 3G.

Some of the people on this forum do...

My music directory is over 500 GB. Recently went on a long trip, and only had about a 30 GB slice on an SD card with me.

It was frustrating that I could only choose from that small slice....

I know plenty of people with iTunes libraries in the TBs (7TB is the biggest I've seen). It'll be awhile before you can take everything with you.

It's not exactly the storage that I care about, but the hardware, such as GPU, processor, battery, ram, etc. I think it could all use a bump up, permitting the technology that is available.

The competition is heating up, so Apple's gotta stay ahead of the curve, a small bump would be forgotten quickly. (I have a huge iTunes library, 2 terabytes for hosting on Apple TV, but only 10 gigs of that is music, how much movies and media must one carry in their pocket?)

Why would you need to store huge maps of the entire nation when you're connected to the internet? All you need to store locally is the map within say an hour's drive in any direction from your current location. ....

That may work fine for people in the US. But a lot of iPhone users don't live in the State. And if you travel a lot in Europe but live in a small country like the Netherlands, you leave the network of your provider very quickly. And that means roaming charges. (1 MB = 2 Euros = ca. 2.79 US Dollar) So I am looking forward to an option to store maps of Europe locally.

While I don't see them getting rid of the 16GB right now, I imagine they will get rid of the 8GB. Either way, I frankly don't care if they get rid of the 16GB as long as they put the 32GB in the current 8GB price point if it is going to be the bottom phone.

I am looking forward to refreshing my phone as I still have the 1st revision 8GB iPhone. Starting to have space issues and would love to double it with a 16GB phone and was awaiting the new releases to make that change.

Maybe this could be a sign of the low end budget iPhone, and the iPhone "Pro"?
Although they'll both just be called iPhone.
