i think the question we all need to ask ourselves is...

'am i prepared to replace my iphone every summer...?'

Even if this is true about the 32GB version, personally I just don't see why anyone would need that much space on their phone. But of course that is just a personal opinion.

because it is an ipod too and remember, you could buy a 160gb ipod ;)

I really hope so too, but the difference this time round is that the price for the 3G was subsidized by O2, over an 18 month contract, wheras buyers of the original iPhone paid full price. So O2 might want to get the full 18 months out of us 3G owners to recover their subsidy, buts let's hope they take the view that signing us up for another 18 months is better. Except it'll probably just be another 12 months until the 4th generation model comes out...

I see what you mean about the subsidised prices, but i will just show them a couple of my monthly bills and demand an upgrade :D

I personally dont see this as a problem. I like having the latest phones, and as they are more evolutions than anything else, the usability is still there and it all works through the same computer software etc.

32!

For just my music it'd be perfect...I currently have 30.2 GB of just music.

My vids on the other hand...are around 65 GB.

But at least I'd have every song on my iPhone!

I currently have ~700GB of music and video (mostly music). Given that I use my iPhone as my iPod, ideally I would be able to carry it all so I could hear any song any time. As it is, I have to select and sync often to mix it up. 1TB anyone? I would be all over that.

Why would you need to store huge maps of the entire nation when you're connected to the internet?

Why am I?

If I have an iPod Touch, I'm not. If I'm driving across country, then I a) don't want to hammer my bandwidth (low volume data plan coming remember), and b) rely on finding a 3G area where I can download a map that is guaranteed to be larger than the 10MB ATT allows anyway.

Put another way, why on Earth *wouldn't* I want to have the map safely stored on my device, such that I can know what hotels, cash machines, restaurants are available at a given location before I get there and the phone decides to pull more maps?

For it to hold all my music it'd have to be well over 150GB's in capacity! Though I'm considering getting an iPhone sometime within the next half a year, and the extra capacity is welcome. I actually really trust that source.

Listening to every song in your library would take 6 weeks of nonstop playback. I'm sure you listen to that much music.

Wasn't there talk earlier about a new iTunes that would allow you to stream and access your entire iTunes library on your iPhone or iPod Touch? If that ever happens, the capacity of the iPhone would become almost irrelevant, wouldn't it?

I'd only trust that if it were via wifi and not through the Back to My Mac system. Anything linked to MobileMe it recipe for disaster.

I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this but surely this post/rumour can't be true and doesn't add any substance to the New Iphone rumour!!!

Why would Aussie T Mobile know that was a new Iphone this summer - If they new every other iphone carrier company would know - therefore we would know

This is surely a typo is someone trying to wind people up!!!

700GB iTunes Library

Still waiting on the 700GB iPhone to fit my library on it. My music tops 200GB, have over 500 music videos, over 100 movies, and a few TV shows.:D

So, given the choice between being able to pick any song from your library, anywhere, or having to pre-guess what genres, albums you might want to listen to later, you'd go for having to guess? Fair enough I suppose. Personally, I'm just lazy. I like to have my music in one place, and for that place to be wherever the hell I might happen to be, when I want it.

you can already do that. It's called simplify music.

My mind cant comprehend how much music/videos etc that you could store on a 1TB iPhone. Anyone got numbers?

Depends on the compression rates used. If I had a TB to play with, I'd store my music uncompressed so that when the pod is docked, the quality would be top notch. In that case you'd be getting around 2000 albums using Apple lossless.

Similar with movies. If you can store them at rates suitable for also showing on TV, why wouldn't you? As such, say 2-3Gb a movie, and you'd be looking at maybe 300 movies. However by the time the 1TB iPhone arrives, the hardware would probably support 1080p output, so those figures would change substantially.

Either way, a terabyte is a chunk of storage though.

On my 160g apple tv I have only 20g left. But I have no need to carry all that in my pocket. 32 g is perfect. As long as the price is the same and 02 let us upgrade. I've heard if you bought a 3g on launch day last year or upto the end of July upgrading won't be a problem. !!!!!!!

Thats true, but until i have the funds to purchase music on a limb, i will just stick to the 14GB I have as I dont d/l free music anymore, its bad! :D

I still feel like the only way to fix this is for Apple to drop the exclusivity plan. Get some competition between the phone companies and I bet we start seeing much better plans. The AT&T monopoly isn't good for anyone......except AT&T that is.

I agree - with some type of tiered data plans I would purchase 1, and maybe 2 additional iPhones. I'm sure ATT&T would argue for a lower subsidy payment to Apple - Apple would counter that the iPhone has driven most of AT&T's new subscriber growth, and they would counter with......

Another big issue is the arrival of new competitor phones and the "novelty" of the iPhone and AppStore not being so new anymore.

I guess we will know soon.
