I agree with Sedrick. I would love it if Apple decided to make 32GB their base storage amount, but I don't see it happening.
If you went to a Starbucks and asked all the people standing on line with iPhones what model they had, at least half wouldn't know.
I eased Apple Retail Store sales associates what the most popular storage capacity is for the iPhone and they have replied that over half their sales are for 16GB storage.
I think the best we can hope for is a 128GB model. But I don't even see that happening unless Samsung starts offering the 64GB version of the Galaxy S4 here in the U.S.
Removable storage is nice, but the truth is that it is far easier to transfer files and apps between a computer or a service like Dropbox than it is to keep track of multiple micro SD cards.
Using Apple's typical pricing scheme, an iPhone 5S with 128GB of internal storage would sell for $950 off contract. That would put it pretty close to the 11" MacBook Air at $999 with the same amount of memory. So I can see how that would fit into Apple's pricing strategy.
What extra cost are you talking about? ...or don't you realize how cheap the storage actually is/ how much Apple is ripping the customers off?
There are rumors that the HTC One is to be released at $200 (with contract) and it will ship with 32GB storage.
Yes the HTC one commercial recently advertised this, it will come with 32 GB. I currently own an HTC and plan to upgrade to iPhone 5s but I really hope 32 becomes standard on the S. people can get a 5 if they want 16. It would be really nice to not have to carry around my iPod touch and a phone wherever I go.
With 16gb of flash currently selling for about $12 (retail), Apple's pricing scheme for the iPhone is very hard to swallow. They charge $100 more for 16gb of additional storage, which must wholesale for under $10, meaning that they're getting $90 in pure profit there. The current top end 64 gb model sells for $200 additional, meaning that apple clears $170 in profit for $30 additional cost.
I think this pricing scheme is unconscionable, and it will drive people away if they don't revise it with the 5s release.
With the 5s, I expect them to either lower the price of the larger capacity phones (selling perhaps at a more reasonable $199/249/299) OR increase the storage capacities and keep the prices the same (offering 32/64/128 at the current $199/299/399 price points). Without a major redesign--which I highly doubt--I think apple will have to go down this path instead.
They just released 16gb touch, so 16gb is not going anywhere. Folks that care about storage will buy 32gb or more. I mean folks have been buying the 8gb phones. Some people don't play games etc on their phones so they don't care. It would be nice, but this is profit margin hungry apple we are talking about.

There is no connection between the phone line and the laptop line. Nobody is not going to buy one or the other because of the price.
I don't really care if 32GB will be standard, i just want a 128GB iPhone.

Yes, but some people will look at the inequity in memory prices between iOS and OSX devices and decide one or the other is overpriced.
16 GB is more than enough unless you store a lot of movies or thousands of songs on your iPhone.
They are probably both overpriced. People are used to paying $200 for the 16gb and will have no problem doing it again. Majority of the people don't know what storage cost.
