Why wouldn't the just add another iPhone to their line? That's what they did with the iPad (16, 32, 64 and 128gb).

They just released 16gb touch, so 16gb is not going anywhere. Folks that care about storage will buy 32gb or more. I mean folks have been buying the 8gb phones. Some people don't play games etc on their phones so they don't care. It would be nice, but this is profit margin hungry apple we are talking about.

I agree with Sedrick. I would love it if Apple decided to make 32GB their base storage amount, but I don't see it happening.

If you went to a Starbucks and asked all the people standing on line with iPhones what model they had, at least half wouldn't know.

I eased Apple Retail Store sales associates what the most popular storage capacity is for the iPhone and they have replied that over half their sales are for 16GB storage.

I think the best we can hope for is a 128GB model. But I don't even see that happening unless Samsung starts offering the 64GB version of the Galaxy S4 here in the U.S.

Removable storage is nice, but the truth is that it is far easier to transfer files and apps between a computer or a service like Dropbox than it is to keep track of multiple micro SD cards.

Using Apple's typical pricing scheme, an iPhone 5S with 128GB of internal storage would sell for $950 off contract. That would put it pretty close to the 11" MacBook Air at $999 with the same amount of memory. So I can see how that would fit into Apple's pricing strategy.

There is no connection between the phone line and the laptop line. Nobody is not going to buy one or the other because of the price.

Htc 32 gb

What extra cost are you talking about? ...or don't you realize how cheap the storage actually is/ how much Apple is ripping the customers off?

There are rumors that the HTC One is to be released at $200 (with contract) and it will ship with 32GB storage.

Yes the HTC one commercial recently advertised this, it will come with 32 GB. I currently own an HTC and plan to upgrade to iPhone 5s but I really hope 32 becomes standard on the S. people can get a 5 if they want 16. It would be really nice to not have to carry around my iPod touch and a phone wherever I go.

Sure would be nice. But, apple has no reason to cut prices. Their phone sells like hot cakes.

With 16gb of flash currently selling for about $12 (retail), Apple's pricing scheme for the iPhone is very hard to swallow. They charge $100 more for 16gb of additional storage, which must wholesale for under $10, meaning that they're getting $90 in pure profit there. The current top end 64 gb model sells for $200 additional, meaning that apple clears $170 in profit for $30 additional cost.

I think this pricing scheme is unconscionable, and it will drive people away if they don't revise it with the 5s release.

With the 5s, I expect them to either lower the price of the larger capacity phones (selling perhaps at a more reasonable $199/249/299) OR increase the storage capacities and keep the prices the same (offering 32/64/128 at the current $199/299/399 price points). Without a major redesign--which I highly doubt--I think apple will have to go down this path instead.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but Apple's making a pretty nice profit on all the hardware inside the phone.

But the iPhone 5 also has 16GB and is the newest, the iPod Touch 5th generation has no connection to the 5S.

Yes, but some people will look at the inequity in memory prices between iOS and OSX devices and decide one or the other is overpriced.

They are probably both overpriced. People are used to paying $200 for the 16gb and will have no problem doing it again. Majority of the people don't know what storage cost.

NAND prices have crashed a lot.

Hopefully the "premium" 5S will start at 32GB, and the iPhone mini will start at 8 or 16GB

16 GB is more than enough unless you store a lot of movies or thousands of songs on your iPhone.

I know a lot of people who have 16GB iPhone 5 version and it is enough for them. I have also 16GB version (6.5gb left and no games installed and only ~15 third apps) but next time i will buy atleast 32GB because taking full HD videos tooks so much space... I doubt that they make 32GB as standard while 16GB is popular, ofcourse if price will be equal to 16GB, no problems for all of us :D

16 GB is more than enough unless you store a lot of movies or thousands of songs on your iPhone.

It takes way less than a thousand songs to fill up 16 GB. I have a friend who has like 30 songs and 30 pictures and their phone is full because of some bug in iOS that wastes the other space. I don't even have a thousand songs on my full 64 GB iPhone 4S that I use.

And do you even pay attention to all the threads here about people wondering why their phone is full? Apple is needlessly aggravating people over an upgrade that would cost them $10 on a $650 device. And people seem to be supporting that decision which is the biggest surprise for me. We will see who is right soon, and if they don't lower the price for the higher storage sizes I'll just vote with my wallet and not buy two new iPhones this year.

I hope Apple at least brings the price to upgrade down. As I mentioned earlier in this thread they lowered the 32 GB upgrade to $70 in the iPod touch, so surely there is some change in store for the upgrade prices for the next iPhone.

That's not how a business, especially a consumer oriented business works.

I agree that a majority of people don't know what storage costs. But they will see a descrepancy is pricing between Gigabytes and decide to look for a better value.

Will Apple lose a lot of customers over this? No. However, they can lose enough to affect their stock price. Apple's stock price is priced near perfection right not. It really only has one direction it can go.

16 GB is more than enough unless you store a lot of movies or thousands of songs on your iPhone.

Let's see, ~2-3MB per picture that your phone takes, 500MB-2GB for games/apps, plus some music, videos, etc. wipes out a 16GB pretty fast. Keep clinging to the illusion that less local storage and relying on the cloud is enough, it will be fine for you.

perhaps the rumored Cheap iPhone will be 16gb while the iPhone 5S will start at 32/64/128.

I'd prefer the 64gb as the 32 fills up fast with lots of photos and some songs and apps.)
