I went with the 64GB. No brainer as I had a 64GB iPhone 4S for 2 years (and in fact upgraded from the 4 to the 4S back in 2011 partly because there was a 64GB model). I have a large music collection. I have lots of apps that take up space, I take tons of photos, I shoot a lot of 1080p video which takes up lots of space etc... In fact I was disappointed there wasn't a 128GB model this year.

64

I got the 64 GB space grey one just because of double the capacity for only $100 more. Besides, i love to carry my entire music library and pictures on the go with me. Needed space for that.

64GB. The fact that I could not upgrade to iOS7 because I didnt have enough space sealed the deal. Sure I could live without storing every photo of my kids and every Beatles album on my phone but YOLO!

64gb - Black. I had a 64gb 5 and I only had about 7 gb free. I like to have all my music with me. I also take a lot of video and pictures, so I like having the space.

I got 64gb as I was maxing out the 32gb ok my iphone 5. Glad to have the extra room for music and photos now.

When I upgrade my 64gb iPad 2 I hope there's an option for 128gb.

I can't see why they wouldn't given the latest and greatest iPad is available with 128 GB. I was totally ready for the 5s to have that option and probably would have gone for it if available.

I have 64gb ipad and got bunch of movies ang pix never filled it... so I think 32gb is enough for my iphone. Which will I never put movies on it.

64GB Space Gray had iPhone 5 64GB.

I was only using 21GB, so I didn't really need it, but I was in line for 3 hours and not thinking clearly.

9.4 gigs for me #

I got the 32 GB. I probably should've bought the 64 since I fully intend to keep this phone for 2 years, but I didn't want to shelve out an extra $100 at the time. I'll most likely go for 64 on the next one.

I got the 64gig 5S because my 4S was also 64gig. I don't need it all, but should I desire to use the iPod functionality more, it is nice to have the extra storage.

I went for the 64GB and wished that there was a 128GB. I currently have 4GB free and that's only because I forced myself to delete a load of music. I've got 43 GB of music on it at the moment. I like to have my whole library with me, if possible, but it can't fit on the phone.

I do subscribe to iTunes Match, but I'm loathe to use it on my phone since last time I switched it on, it messed everything up (artists appearing twice, appearing under the wrong letter etc).

First time with a 64. I like having my entire photo collection on my phone (and I have many). I was also tired of swapping out movies. With a 64, I can keep a ton more videos on at one time.

64GB.

I got spoiled with the 64GB microSD card and 16GB in my Samsung Galaxy SIII.

Plus, I *plan* on keeping this device the full two years, unless something spectacular happens with the iPhone 6.

And also, with 64bit computing and more high res pictures and videos, I figured having more storage on tap isn't a bad thing.

Well I got a 64 GB as I was taken up by the excitement in line at launch and when asked which one I wanted I figured "go big or go home" and went for the deluxe model. :D

I currently have a 64GB Gold iPhone 5S. My first iPhone was a White iPhone 3GS 32GB. I found that I couldn't fit all my music on it. So when it was time to upgrade to an iPhone 4S I was so happy they increased storage that year to 64GB. The iPhone 4 wasn't available in 64GB. So, during the keynote for the iPhone 4S I was praying for the 64GB. I was so happy when that Keynote was completed. I bought the White iPhone 4S 64GB

I do know though that I will never need 128GB on an iPhone. But I still hope they do make the upgrade on future iPhones. 32GB ($199) 64GB ($299) 128GB ($399). So that my next 64GB will be cheaper.

I finally made my decision and will be keeping the Space Gray 32GB 5S.

A summary of the main reasons many of you bought the 64GB model:
  • Have a large music/video/photo collection
  • It was the only model available at the time
  • Future-proofing against growing app sizes
  • Sick of having to constantly sync your phone
The main reasons I'm not upgrading to 64GB:
  • Stream all of my music through Spotify
  • Have unlimited LTE on Verizon
  • Don't keep photos/videos on my phone long-term (backup to PC & Dropbox)
  • Don't watch movies on my phone
Thanks to everyone who took the time to provide their input. I read every single one of your posts (even multiple times) and it really did help me make up my mind. Hopefully someone else will have the same question and come across this thread at some point.

Cheers!

Facing this problem now. (Yes, I am a very late adopter.) 5s with 32 GB are easier to find, 64 is somewhat rare. I want to use the phone for filming. How much time could I film to the 32 GB version?

You should be able to do a quick calculation based on your video recording settings (settings -> camera -> record video). This will tell you how much storage space a minute will take up for whatever quality you select. 720p at 30fps is 60MB/minute and 1080p at 30fps is 130MB/minute. If you had the most available space (I think around 27GB after formatting and OS installation) 720p is 460 minutes (7 hours 40 minutes) and 1080p is 212 minutes (3 hours 32 minutes).
