I think seriously if you are complaining the housing is cracking I serious think you people don't take care of your iPhones you need to put in a case and don't be so hard on it. iPhones are computer handhelds and there gentle devices. Good luck.
I don't believe all phones are prone to crack. I have been using the snot out of mine, including the headphone jack and volume rocker and still have no cracks on my 16GB Black purchased on July 11th.
I treat mine extremely carefully, I rarely even put it in a tight pocket. I usually put it in a case when I leave the house. Never been dropped, even on soft surfaces. Never been sat on, and it's still developing cracks.I think seriously if you are complaining the housing is cracking I serious think you people don't take care of your iPhones you need to put in a case and don't be so hard on it. iPhones are computer handhelds and there gentle devices. Just above the silent switch. After about a week the dirt has made it more apparent. Have not taken it back yet.
I wonder if it is just a stress crack from being carried in my jeans pocket??
I called Apple's Italian tech support today to enquire about having a small crack near my iPhone's volume control "repaired". The operator told me Apple will charge for the repair insofar they consider it "user-caused" damage outside the scope of warranty cover. I vented an industrial quantity of anger in his general direction.
White iPhone, 2 days old. Small crack by the headphone port 🙁
go in a dark room, get a flashlight and press it right up onto the back of your iphone. black or white iphone, this is the best way to view the cracks
However, for those of use that lined up 5+ hours on launch day to get them, and only NOW experience cracking we are SOL.
Did you go to an Apple store or ATT?
How can they not replace the phone, its a mfg defect?
That's exactly the same thing I thought. I went to an Apple store in NYC and MA. Both "geniuses" gave me the same excuse. I told them to search for "cracks" in their system. The "genius" didn't even bother doing that and said you'll have to wait until Apple issues something official. I walked out ready to destroy every iPhone i saw on my way out.
I recommend those of you who only recently purchased the iPhone and noticed cracks to return them to the Apple store ASAP. I was told that they would exchange the phone immediately, no questions asked within 14 days of purchase. I keep seeing people comment that Apple is replacing their iPhone, but I've been to two stores and was told both times that they won't exchange due to the fact that it's cosmetic and doesn't affect functionality. Granted, it's a small crack from the bezel to the headphone, but I didn't waste my time and money to get a shoddy product.

I got my Replacement iphone...and right out of the box there was a small crack between the headphone jack and chrome...so its not cause people are treating there iphones bad its cause the housing sucks..and is defecting...i called to get another one...and no problems with it at all
Are they surface cracks, maybe in the sealant part of the shell, does anyone know if the crack worsens in time, i know the phone hasn't been out that long, but does that crack increase.
whats the difference between refurb iphones and new iphones? is a new iphone better than a refurb? is there a difference in quality?
for apple refurb items overall, I have been told that every refurb item goes thru QC, while 'new' items are only spot checked, so if that is indeed the case, a refurb should have more of a chance of being perfect than a 'new'.
