Engadget claims to have heard from a "reliable source" that a private version of the 3G iPhone's firmware has been dissected revealing the following hardware support:
- Infineon PMB6952 / S-GOLD3 six-band UMTS / HSDPA transceiver
- Murata LMRX3JCA-479 tri-band amplifier (we're assuming for the 3G)
- Sony SP9T - antenna Switch for GSM / UMTS dual mode
- ARM 1176JZF-S - Main CPU (same as in 1st gen iPhone)
- Skyworks 77427 - UMTS / HSDPA tx 1900, rx 2100MHz
- Skyworks 77414 - UMTS / HSDPA 1900
- Skyworks 77413 - UMTS / HSDPA 850MHz
- Internal build model number: n82ap (1st gen iPhone was model m68ap)
- UMTS Power Saving - on or off
- Hooks for Global Locate Library (GLL), software that handles GPS related commands for the host processor
Engadget suggests that this is evidence for GPS support as well as Tri-band HSDPA (3G) support making it compatible with international carriers. GigaOM had previously "confirmed" GPS support was present with the contract going to Broadcom. If true, the specs also reveal the main processor for the next iPhone would be the same as the existing iPhone.

The 3G-capable iPhone is expected to be announced during Apple's WWDC keynote speech on Monday, June 9th at 10am Pacific.

Looks like a world-wide launch! What's the record in sales of any device/movie/game over a week or weekend?

I'm sure Apple would love to get that top spot.

Tri-band would be great. Anything other then 3g is just icing on the cake. The original was almost perfect!

Same processor?
Same processor but more powerful perhaps?
I doubt it.. Why on earth would the iphone need to be more powerful? That would just eat the batteries. It already runs rings around the PSP and pretty much every handheld device on the market. The CPU is already great. :)

Also nice to know the people who're making games already are working on the same basic spec as the 2nd generation.

If the iPhone has GPS, and if someone writes a good GPS app for it (allowing it to be used on the dashboard of my car), I will buy that app, and the iPhone, in a heartbeat. I hope this rumor's true!

I currently have an iPod touch and a phone, but want a GPS... if I could have 3 in one, I'd be in heaven (figuratively).

This is just terrible, terrible, terrible news. After all these rumors. We might just get some of the rumored things.:rolleyes: LOL

NO CAMERAS UPDATE?

what?

I'm still keeping hope alive!!! honestly after 3G a superior camera is next on my wishlist. gps is a handy feature, but i won't use it frequently.

the only other request i have is for video capture abilities.

I honestly couldn't care less about video conferencing. (although I am 90% sure it will have it. kool factor, but nothing more)

If you pay to much attention to your dash-mounted GPS iPhone, you might just get to heaven "literally" too. :D

I understand apple can make us to buy again with a front cam next time in 2009 or 2010.
but I will only buy this one with a video capbility cam on the back..

3g,4g, whatever..

as long as I have wifi..

and gsm..

N82

A few months ago, around the time we started hearing 3G iPhone rumors pick up steam, somebody posted something about the iPhone's software containing three hardware codes: the one for the current iPhone (M62, I think), one marked simulator (which came with the SDK) and one unknown model titled N82. I guess we know exactly what that one was now, don't we?
