The iPhone needs a faster processor. The current one gets too choppy sometimes, especially in Safari.

Looks like a world-wide launch! What's the record in sales of any device/movie/game over a week or weekend?

I'm sure Apple would love to get that top spot.
Yes, Im sure they would but, I wouldn't count on it...

GTAIV - 3.6 million in 1 day... A tuesday at that... and it wasn't $400... and no $60 monthly contract.

How many did the 1st iPhone sell in the first day?

I'm not expecting much, except...

The ARM processor may be the same, but they upped the other processor, the GOLD3 that does a lot of the work. It is extremely powerful. And, the chips they seem to be using are very, very low power, so battery should be good even with the following:

In this phone's hardware I expect 3G at 7.5Mb/s down, GPS with a fix in as little as a second and updating as much as twice per second, video recording, second small camera, stereo Bluetooth, the chips can handle up to 5 megapixel camera so that depends on the camera hardware they picked, up to 32GB main memory... And that's hardware. I think they went for some really, really top notch hardware for this worldwide model. We will get software to match as well, over the next year. 2.0 will start us off with iChat, wireless sync, push mail, enterprise features, and significant new apps. When they say it is OSX in there, they ain't kidding, as those who have played with the SDK can attest. They made a software platform worthy of MUCH MORE than just a phone. We will see other products using this OS.

I expect a tablet at some point. The key is, the Apple tablet won't be a scaled down Mac. It will be a scaled up iPhone/Touch. Cocoa Touch can handle it easily. Very thin like the phone, great screen that uses touch and Wacam-like stylus both. Touch, Ink. No keyboard! You want a keyboard or mouse, use Bluetooth. I expect we will see it by January. Screens shall go OLED by then - brighter, thinner, lower power all at once.

I also expect a line of displays. Touchable displays. Why do you think new displays have been delayed for so long? Mac OS 10.6 will handle touch. The display will be thin and able to go flat or at a 20 degree angle. Use a finger or Wacom-like stylus. Perhaps small ones with built in WiFi, battery and enough brains so the unit will be able to do Apple Remote Desktop and literally be a remote desktop screen to any Mac on the internet. I expect the phones themselves will get this ability as well, probably in this iteration. I.e., the lines between external display, tablet, and pocket devices will blur. Nicely.

There I said it!

Maybe it just needs better programmed safari. :D Perhaps that Squirrelfish thing for javascript and a load more optimisations. I'd rather see them go that route than the traditional method with desktops of throwing more and more power in to make up for the bloat..

Flash player used to clog things up on my /dual G5/ lol. People just need to get back to programming properly. :/ (not that i'm saying that's easy or realistic)

well done!
I guess steve himself would just a little bit better than your goal..

I can confirm that Apple will be hosting Wyclef Jean at their SOHO store on Monday for a FREE performance to mark the launch of the 3G iPhone.

Show starts at 7pm and he will be signing free autographs.

Sounds awesome.

I can live without a better camera but GPS is essential.

Everyone is expecting it now as so many rumours have said it will be in so major let down if not in.

I think apple will also do something special with GPS too and make it a new must have and useful feature. GPS will be one if the big thrusts for this device.

The current processor is underclocked so adding a faster processor wouldn't be able to help unless it ran cooler then what they already have.

Finally something that looks like a credible and realistic report!

I'm satisfied with this until Monday afternoon :p

3G iPhone = worst kept secret in Apple's history.

Or best kept...

What if what they have planned will blow us away? Remember iPhone 1? We all knew it was coming, but we didn't expect it to be anything like the way it turned out. At best we thought it would be touchscreen with a slide out keyboard. And we all know how well that turned out.

All I'm saying is maybe what they're hiding is so good they're creating hype for a product not even close to as good as what they will announce.

How do you derive GPS from the cited hardware specs?

For the non-EE's, I didn't see anything in the hardware specs that indicated that the phone supported GPS (no Garmin or Trimble reference). Which of the devices is a GPS chipset? Or is the GPS derived from cell tower position? Please forgive my ignorance.
