• Of course some people would be calling it the "iPad 2S".
 • Some people still say the iPad is "just a big iPod Touch".
 • Some people are still making feminine hygiene jokes.
 • Some people are saying that Apple should have put a retina display and an A6 processor and LTE and Siri into the first iPad, and sold it for $150 and that the only reason they didn't is that they were holding back these very basic features (which Android has had on its tablets since 1948) so they could get the iSheep to buy a new iPad every year.
 • Some people are saying that Apple will quickly go out of business as soon as the first Windows 8 tablet appears.
 • Some people are still asking "does it do Flash?", or "will it play Crysis?"

yep, and apple is laughing all the way to the bank with their iPad sales approaching (i think) 50 million?

Really, what happened to the relationship between Apple and NYTimes? There was a time when Steve Jobs was showing the from page of NYTimes in iPhones.

And now? NYTime is trashing Apple with FUD and lies. iPad 2S? Come on!

Sarcasm. They're butthurt for not being invited to the press event. And I was saying that if the new iPad was the 2S, then the 4S should have had twice the resolution of the 4.) I was evaluating his yardstick in a logical fashion instead of a Im going to generate linkbait fashion.
Aha, right I gotcha... :p

Angry and downplays how big of a spec bump this is. This was a lot more than the iphone 4 to 4S under the hood.

The only thing I found of any use in that review (that almost felt like he hadn't used the device or even seen one till he talked about video) was discussion of app size.

The app size wasn't something I broadly thought about prior to reading the NYT review. If apps take up 2-3X the storage space across all IOS devices, that's going to be a big hit to people's storage space. I can see where it would be a mess having multiple versions, but apps optimized for both the iPhone and iPad will get pretty huge... I now feel better about being impatient and snapping up a 32GB iPhone and not waiting for a 16. MIght need that space after all.
Yeah, Indeed. It's going to vary from app to app, but sizes are going to be quite large in some instances.

Oh, the irony....

The display alone, ALONE, makes this worth it. Never mind everything else.

Retina is a phenomenal enhancement of the User Experience. It isn't just a spec.

How amusing that the strongest draw of "The new Ipad" is its Samsung display....

It's not a Samsung display, only made in their factory. The technology isn't theirs, it's Sharp's and Apple's.

That would be like saying the iPad is a Foxconn tablet.

Links? There's nothing "new" about the technology. LCD displays in various sizes at various DPIs (including DPIs higher than "The new Ipad" DPI) have been around for years. There's no innovation from Apple, just that one of their suppliers has improved the process to the point of producing 2048x1536 9.7" panels at high enough volumes and a low enough price point.

In fact, it's a bit of an embarrassment for Apple that they've been unable to release a system with reasonable resolution independence, and have to fall back on crude "doubling" to get a higher resolution display.

And Foxconn is mostly an assembler, not a supplier, so that analogy fails.

..and the strongest draw of the iMac and iPhone were their LG display? How is that not amusing and this suddenly is amusing? Everything has to be some sort of dichotomy to some.

Plus LG is already making their share of Retina displays, it's just matter of time before we have multiple sources. Then you'll say "how amusing that Apple doesn't make iPad components."

From your link:

The source was not authorized to speak to the media and declined to be identified.

Until we get some proof that "The new Ipad" is showing up with non-Samsung displays, we should ignore reports like this.

When somebody tears apart a "The new Ipad" and finds an LG or Sharp display, then we'll be somewhere.

Or, if some gets "The new Ipad" with a disgusting yellow tinge, then we can assume an LG display.

It's not matter of them not producing or not, just matter of when LG will produce them in good enough quality. LG is definitely making Retinas for iPad and it's been well reported all over Korean media, not to mention they have been making millions of panels for Apple in recent years. As they are moving to their new production facility it took them a while to sort things out but it's ludicrous to suggest LG is not making displays for the iPad.

One thing about Apple polemics is its persistent in "if you don't produce all the components, it's not yours" reasoning, which is pretty ridiculous. Somehow it's no problem when MS/Sony/Nintendo make game consoles with others' components but when Apple does it, somehow the end products aren't Apple's. Heck, neither nVidia or AMD makes their own chips but when was the last time you heard anybody referring TSMC or any other foundry as the "true" maker of graphics chips? Yet with Apple, A5 suddenly is a Samsung chip.

does anyone else find annoying the "Macworld" video review of the iPad3 (I am not calling it the New iPad)?

95% of the video you see the guy's (ugly) face talking about the iPad3...what's the point? I would rather read a review if I can't see the device in action.

No, you have to learn what words actually mean. Adding the letter S, as demonstrated by the iPhone 4S, means "a product that is highly underestimated by the press, and by competitors, and ends up being a success beyond what anyone felt possible because it actually delivers what customers want". In that sense, it is an iPad 2S :D

Perhaps, however you have to learn that 2 is a number and S is a letter - not words. ;)

Btw, I'm luvin' this new screen. :D
