How exactly do you run redsn0w over your existing jb? I used pwnage to create a custom 4.3.3 ipsw and did an alt/option restore in itunes so I'm already jailbroken. When I try to run redsn0w it's asking me to select an ipsw. Do I select the custom ipsw I created? Or is there a way around that? All I want to do is patch my jb to get rid of the vibration switch bug.

just run redsn0w. You point it to the regular ipsw and not the custom one you made. Uncheck 'install Cydi'a and then continue with 'next'. It will put the phone into DFU mode, rejailbreak and leave everyting intact. BB is not touched nor are your apps.

Perhaps this isn't what you meant, but redsn0w does not put the phone into DFU mode. You have to do that manually.

Just updated to 4.3.3 and re-jailbreaked with redsn0w rc15. Battery life stays the same when I wake up in the morning now instead of dropping 5-10%, everything seems a bit snappier. Multi-tasking gestures are built into the settings app now!

OK - this is probably a dumb question - but I really want to know if this is possible because it seems like it must be.

I'm running 4.1 - I'm scared to update because I have MANY paid JB apps including GV extension, SMS GV extension, bite SMS etc.

What is the process to go about updating my JB while NOT losing all of my apps or preferences? Is there a way to 'save' all of this?

Yeah. Sorry. It instructs you how to do it you have to push the buttons yourself :)

Thank you - worked like a charm!

Yes but it's not free. Search Cydia for PkgBackup. Well worth the $ in my opinion if you jailbreak a lot.

So I see iconic tweeted the release of redsnow rc16 is released and is live today. One of the things he said is that the release fixes some battery drain. If I have rs15 on mine now and run rc16, will everything stay in tact, or will I have to reinstall all the apps, mods\tweaks from cydia again?

Thanks!

Everything stays just the way it is.

Just be sure to uncheck the install cydia option in redsn0w like they tell in the dev team webpage instructions. Not sure what happens if you reinstall cydia...

Bah!! I tried using latest redsnow on-top of my already jailbroken (using PwnageTool) 3GS. Keep getting unknown error. Anywho, I'm interested in seeing reports of the supposed battery drain improvements.

is there a compaitbility list for 4.3.3? im on 4.3.1, I want to know what jailbroken apps have issues before upgrading

i'm all jailbroken but i can't install any packages. bitesms, sbsettings, everything i want gives me the error cannot locate package. what's heck is up with that.

I have a verizon iphone can i also use this jailbreak if i upgrade to the 4.3.3? Or is verizon going to have to release a version of there own? I have not plugged my phone into the computer to see.

Also say i do end up jailbreaking will it reset my phone back to stock with no apps installed? Or will it jailbreak it and leave the apps installed still.

It doesn't remove anything. Once you JB, it will leave the phone exactly as it was just before you JB.

Verizon is on a different ios upgrade path. I don't think you should jb if you don't even know what your ios upgrade path is.
Some JBs will wipe your phone, while others don't. You obviously need to do some research, before you ask any more questions.

I think for VZ iPhones, 4.2.8 is the latest. whatever FW you're on now you can jailbreak and it'll leave everything intact on your phone.
