They keep the 16GB, trying to keep the price "low", and then they give you 64GB & 128GB to justify the high price on these models. It puts people in a dilemma; those who want more than 16GB much shaft up considerably more (probably $150-$200) just to get the 64GB.

And in the end, going from 16GB to 64GB costs around $30 in component cost if I was not mistaken.

Whatever happens, Apple will continue to be greedy, that I am sure of. It disgusts me just to think about it. Shareholders... shareholders... shareholders....

I know 16gb is very popular but personally I would have a hard time being happy with 32gb. 64 or 128 for me, thanks very much.

:apple:

I'm thinking the 16gb model will pretty much replace the 5c as the low end "cheap" iPhone. It may look the same as the higher end iPhone 6's but with lesser specs and no sapphire screen.

Where the main iPhone 6 units will now come in only 64gb and 128gb versions with sapphire

16GB? 2012 called and they want their RAM back lol.

No way Apple will ship a fancy new phone with a paltry 16.

32 or higher only.

sure they will. and people like my parents will buy it for $199 subsidized price b/c they install maybe a dozen apps on top of what comes pre-loaded. and they barely use it for anything except making calls and snapping the occasional photo

as long as people will buy it, Apple will sell it. there is absolutely NO demand pressure for Apple to increase to 32GB for the base model b/c anyone who wants 32GB or 64GB or even 128GB will be perfectly willing to pay the extra amount

RAM and HD/Flash storage are NOT the same thing people.

I think he's making a joke about how the 16GB storage is so small, considering that it's very common for computers to have 16GB of RAM these days, let alone huge storage capacities.

To the point about 16, 64, 128 options. This is actually a great idea to get people to pay the extra. Multiplying your storage by 4 (ish) will really seem worth it. I was going to go for a 64 for the first time round anyway, so this would be excellent at only £80 more than the base.

why? just get the bigger one.

not if there is a market of people who want it and buy it. like...my dad.

You may not have a need for more than 16gb on a phone, but most people do.

Add up all the music, videos, books, pictures, etc. and you have more than 16gb for most people. You may be able to slim it down easily, but the best thing is when you don't have to pay very much attention to how much storage you still have...

i really hope the 16gb storage is literally just for testing purposes of testing the hardware just to save some money on R&D prototypes, i hope the base model is 32gb so when i get my 64gb i can save $100, 16gb is too obsolete nowadays especially without a expandable storage

16GB is a pathetically small amount of storage these days. How much would it cost Apple to double that amount?

Not much, I'd guess.

Lol, by the looks of this rumor, they will keep 16 but double the others, forcing you to buy the 64 GB if you want more.

It is a disgustingly, cold-hearted, brilliant decision

16 GB? Why that much? Isn't it 2014 where local storage is not needed? Would gladly take a 4 gb.

The counterpoint to those saying that 16GB is not enough storage is that advances in cloud services should help us free space on our devices.

In reality, that may not be the case depending on your particular use case.

At the end of the day 16,64, and 128 is not much different from 32,64, and 128. If you want a 64 GB or 128 GB phone the price will be the same, you might even be better off since without a 32 GB the higher end ones will keep more value on the used market as the 16 GB will be undesirable.

The only people affected are the chespos who will have to pay an extra 100$ for more storage. And I think it will sway many to upgrade. It kinda reminds me of the new 21.5 " iMac released this year. By making it so umdesirabke , people will be willing to pay the extra $200 for a real iMac!

They did that with the iPod touch, having an 8gb then 32 and 64gb model, you do make an excellent point, definitely great business strategy by them if they do that

Everybody I know with 16 GB need to take time to manage their iTunes playlists and whatnot every once in a while. My cousin does that every month, I have never done it because I have increased my iOS product capacity every time it became available.

16 GB should not exist anymore, don't get me wrong, it only lets them have exagerated profit margins.

This is more or less why Apple won't do that. Why would they not want an extra $100? Appple and other companies are not altruistic. Apple is a business and the purpose of a business is to make a profit. Furthermore, Other companies have phones with 16GB as base storage, so there's no reason to change.

I'm not sure what to think about the absence of a 32 GB model.

I betting the rumors are wrong. We are heading towards the time when 32 gig will be the lower end standard.

That'd be nice!

I got the 64GB model last time around (iPhone 5) and never reached the half of it. I will probably not go to 128GB this time, but will remain on 64GB, because you know all apps will start having with @3x resources now... (still according to rumours).

But I also know myself, I might just ignore reason and go for full 128GB. I'd rather not need it and have it than the other way around!

I honestly think that the only reason Apple ships 8GB and 16GB devices in 2014 is so that ignorant people buy them without realizing how constraining that amount of space is, and then in a year when they run out of space they are more motivated to upgrade their phone.

It's all about planned obsolescence. And it's obscene.

It wouldn't be so bad if at least they charged a reasonable amount for upgrading - maybe $50 per capacity bump instead of $100.

I sure hope that if they are offering 16GB, 64GB and 128GB, they are only charging $100 to upgrade to 64, and not an extra $200. This would be reminiscent of what they did when they first launched the iPod Touch 4th Generation, with options in 8GB and 32GB. I bet tons of people got 8GB iPod Touches as gifts and had to run out and upgrade to 32 so they could at least store some music on it.

Confirmed modem
Qualcomm MDM9625M
From A8 markings it seems that the RAM is still 1 GB (not sure because is not very clear)
