Despite saying i go for 44mm i think i will fit them on my thin wrists when they are available in the Apple store.
Battery life etc will not be improved based on the battery test done in the past with the S3 models.

I hope slightly better LTE reception with the bigger ones but reviews/tests hopefully will show that to us soon.

I am a bit afraid 44m will be bigger than my entire wrist or just barely fit and then having the straps stick out making it look ugly when wearing it. A bigger screen is awesome though but if it dances around on my wrist because its too big than it the bigger screen will not be a pleasant daily wear experience.
I have a 6 inch wrist, 7 inches where I wear my watch, I’m a female and I purchased the 44mm, it’s not too big at all, almost the same size as the Fitbit Versa I had

Having looked through this thread, and even contributed to it in the past, all I can say is that there’s no “right” or “wrong” answer to the whole 40 v 44 debate. It’s all down to personal preference and how the device, regardless of size, looks on your own wrist to your own eyes.

Buy what makes you happy, not what the consensus on an Internet forum says you “should”.

It’s just baffles me when people still choose the 40mm over the 44mm.
It’s only $30 more for a bigger screen and longer battery life.
But to each their own.

Especially in the case of men. For women I can understand that watches have traditionally had a smaller aesthetic.

Personally I had no interest in walking around like a Michael Knight tribute act ... but to each their own.

I don't think it is sexist. If that's sexist then so is the fact that every fashion house has a men's fashion and women's fashion section, so is the fact that most watch manufacturers have a women's line and a men's line.

Look at how these companies segment product:
https://www.harveynichols.com
https://www.rolex.com/watches/find-rolex/woman.html

If people followed your logic, the entire fashion and accessories industry would destroy a ton of value.

I am a watch enthusiast with two dozen automatic watches, from the oversized Panerai to slim Frederique Constant, Ulysse Nardin etc. I have very slim wrists for a guy (6.3 inches in circumference). The diameter of the watch I buy varies depending on the watch model, from 44mm Panerai to 36mm Nomos. The Apple watch I bought is 40mm, because the 44mm looks like I strapped a phone on my wrist. People who’ve never used watches may find it normal (desirable even), but when I see guys with even slimmer wrists than mine wearing the 44mm Apple watch it makes me cringe!

Your example does not comply here as all fashion and watch brands have much wider selection of watch models in various sizes. Apple watch has 1 model, 2 sizes. It doesn’t automatically make 40mm a woman’s watch.

I upgraded from 38mm Series 2 to 40mm Series 4. I have tiny wrists so it fits well. However, the Series 4 is so damn fast that I have really started to like it, and want to use it more. I went to Apple Store today and tried on the 44mm, it's definitely large on my tiny wrists, but apps will look so well :) For Series 5, I will go for the 44mm!

I bought the 40 mm SS SB in January and still think it is the perfect watch for me. I had to remove three links out of my link bracelet in order to make it fit. Now you understand I have very small wrists for a man and 44 mm would be ridiculous.

First time owner here, counting down the days to pre order my *hopeful* Series 5 aluminium SB. Tried the 40mm today at Apple and it’s perfect.

For the owners with 44mm, did you find it too big at first? My partner says the 40mm is a waist of time but it looks silly on my small wrists

I got the 42mm on launch day for the first and it never felt big. It’s perfect

I recently started to use the list view in the app list. Could any kind soul see how many characters fit into 1 row in the 44mm? I have the 40mm and the maximum I can see is 11 characters, but some 3rd party apps takes up 2 rows, e.g. "Buy me a pie!" which is 13 characters. Does the Buy me a pie! app fit into 1 row in the 44mm?

Maybe a weird question... But the 40mm screen is already very small, not fun when apps takes up 2 rows..

Exactly. Due to the all over square screen and lugless design, the Apple Watch doesn’t wear small. My 38mm Watch wears about the same as my Submariner, and the 40mm Apple Watch wears even bigger. The 38mm/40mm Apple Watch is certainly great on men.

Indeed, rectangular watches will always wear bigger than same diameter round watches due to bigger area.

I went back and forth between Titanium and Aluminium but ultimately went Aluminium. I couldn’t justify the extra cost to most likely upgrade next year.

So I got an offer from someone I know for series 4 44mm aluminum GPS only for $263. There are some scratches on the screen from daily use, but that is about it. Do you think it is a good deal or should I wait?

welp i preordered a 44mm but am now having 2nd doubts. i legit thought it was the same size as the 42, just with more utilization of the screen. but using the full-size mockup in the Apple app, the 44mm looks a tad too big for my 160mm writst. the 42mm is perfect for me (S3), and i had the 38mm for the S0.

i was going to go ahead and list my S3 on Swappa tonight, but now i'm going to have to wait til i get my 44mm on Friday...if i decide to return it and go 40mm...I need to sell my s3 with all my old 42mm bands....

decision decisions...

I ordered the 44S5 to replace the 40 because its easier to read text messages. Isn't it time to unpin this thread or at least rename it since the S4 is removed?
