Having a tough time with this.

Bands with lugs make me lean toward the smaller one, but sport bands and loops make me lean towards the larger one. My wrists are roughly 165mm.
My wrist is the exact same size and I decided to upgrade from a 42mm S3 to a 44mm S5. I personally think that 42mm was the perfect size for me but I am very happy I went with the 44mm S5 over the 40mm one.

I am a 5’ 4” woman with small wrists, and I chose the 44mm (previously had the 42mm S3). I got the AW as an info device, and if it’s too small, I can’t see it! I am happy with the size. I can see it easily, and it’s not hanging off the sides of my wrist. YMMV

I went with a 40mm as my series 2 is a 38mm and it’s not too big on my wrists. I hate it when the screen is pretty much the whole width of the wrist. I like it to look good as a watch as well as be useable.

I feel that. The 38mm was a pain to use as a smart device, but the 40mm with the larger screen is perfect and feels surprisingly ergonomic. Even scribbling on my 40mm feels just as good as doing it on my 42mm.

this is kinda funny. i purchased a series 4 SS SB with sport band a couple months ago and then lost it last week. when i called asurion to get it replaced they said they didn't have that one in stock but instead offered the same model with milanese band or a 40mm series 5 SS SB with sport band

i purchased my series 3 with milanese band and didn't care for it so saved a $100 and got the sport band with my series 4

i was put on the spot when they asked which i wanted but ultimately i went with the same series 4 44Mm
while an upgrade to series 5 was tempting i just could not see myself being happy downgrading in size

I went with the 40mm S5. I really like the size and it is very comfortable on my arm. Would the 44mm look obnoxiously big??

I think the problems with the Apple Watch is the protruding sensor on the back tends to push the watch off the wrist which causes the 44 to look bigger as the case isn’t flush with the skin.
Personally I think it’s a design decision to allow them to market the watch case being thinner than what it actually is.
My wrist is 170mm and I always pick the 40mm, I’d love to take the 44 simply for the leather loop but I just hate the bigger case.
For me there’s no better design than a 40mm SBSS with genuine black link bracelet.

Another pic of the 44mm because I’m forever torn and the 14 day window is shrinking. Lol.

The first angle/band makes it a no brainer to me, however the second makes it a much tougher call. Sigh.
I agree, it looks fine in the first pic and too big in the second lol. Only you can make the call really.

Wrist is around 165(ish)mm.
165mm is average and the worst zone to pick an AW size. At least for much smaller/larger wrists it's a no-brainer. I have tiny toothpick-sized wrists and I knew the 40mm was the right call for me right away.

I agree, 165mm is definitely stuck between the two sizes. There’s times when the 40mm looks to small.
The width of my wrist is 55mm when I look at it so I personally consider that to narrow for the 44mm.
There’s just so many factors involved when picking between the two sizes but the decision is all yours and it’s you that has to wear it.
Pick the size that you want, don’t let others decide for you.

I got 160mm wrists as a man and hated that Apple switched from 42mm to 44mm because 42mm was absolutely perfect.

Now I wear the 40mm S4 SS black but half the time I feel not satisfied.
Yesterday I tried the whole evening the 44mm from my friend, it was ok, not perfect, just ok.

It is a damn struggle ...

I have a 170mm wrist and prefer the 40mm but my biggest issue is the bands. The sport loop doesn’t stretch out enough to go over my hand and I also find the bands to thin. They look to small on my arms.

I was in the Apple store this morning trying on the two sizes.
The 44 doesn’t look as bad as you think it would and I personally found the 44 looked more pebble like on my wrist.
I’m still going with a 40 as I feel the 44 would bump against surface more easily but I absolutely hate that apples strap offers on the 40 are worse.

I'm was so convinced to buy 40mm due to a small wrist. But I tried and bought 44mm and it is not obviously huge. Give me your opinion please. But I'm still no confident with this size. Maybe I'll switch for other size 40. 44 is pretty nice at work with dress code but for all the time I'm not sure.

Your wrist looks the same as mine! I stuck with the 42/44 cos my friends say the big face looks nicer on my watch, and personally I also didn’t like how small the smaller one looks. Here’s my pic... 3rd party cuff but u can see the size of the watch vs my wrist.

so far all’s good except I’ve grown to live with the fact I can’t wear certain Bands (all 44mm Hermes and Milanese loop)but I’m ok with it :). Saves my wallet haha! Sport bands are at the second tightest hole for me.

my wrist is 165 and i choose the 40mm S5. I wanted it to look and feel like watch and just blend in with my arm and not stand out. curve with my arm more. It got me thinking, how big are rolexes and omegas? well on average, the largest Mens size rolexes are between 39 and 42mm. even the substantial omgea sea master is 42mm. I couldn't find any 44mm. so it gave me some added perspective that 40mm is really a terrific size. may help some in their decisions and feel more confident that 40mm is not small at all by watch standards. Now i do recognize 44mm having a larger screen which can display larger fonts making it easier to read since its a information focused watch, but for me, i would have to wear glasses to read either one so that was irrelevant for me and just focused on how the watch feels on my wrist.

Thanks for your feel back jaytee86. Your wrist looks like pretty similar of mine. Yes for me it depends. I prefer 44 how it looks like when you are in suit but at home I prefer a watch that forget itself. I plan to use the 40mm of my girlfriend in order to see how it looks with milanais band.

Both are okay, do you have other bands, e.g. leather or metal?
The 40mm looks better/bigger with non sportbands.
