40mm vs 44mm Apple Watch S4 - Which will you get?

I have 170mm wrists and have just bought 44mm S5. I do prefer smaller watches, but need the larger screen if I want to be able to see the complications - limitations of getting older! I was undecided about which size leather loop to buy, but have found the M to be plenty long enough.

I guess for people who wants a better screen the 44mm is perfect. For me, the most important thing is to see the time .

Just back from apple store with milanais band. I tried with 40mm (of my girlfriend) and mine (44mm). 44mm looks more professional but for everyday I guess 40 is better. At the same time 44mm looks more like a watch than iwatch.

The 40mm looks better/bigger with non sportbands.

I used to have 40mm until series 2, but then I found out I really like the big screen.. anyway other non smartwatches always look massive on my wrist so this is considered very ok for me haha..i also just didn’t want it to look like a tiny Fitbit lol, not against the brand but it’s just looks super obvious I’m wearing a tiny smart watch..

both looks good! I don’t wear my watch much at home though so didn’t really think so much about how it looks at home. But it’s up to u!

Yes I think like you jaytee86. Small watch looks like a tiny fitbit or other thing. Big screen with roman number looks like more a watch. I never used a regular watch but I know that looks like big and no elegant. With AW is looks like normal.

It depends also of screen.

yup! that's why i really like the california watch face now, after years of pining over the hermes faces haha!

my wrist is 165 and i choose the 40mm S5. I wanted it to look and feel like watch and just blend in with my arm and not stand out. curve with my arm more. It got me thinking, how big are rolexes and omegas? well on average, the largest Mens size rolexes are between 39 and 42mm. even the substantial omgea sea master is 42mm. I couldn't find any 44mm. so it gave me some added perspective that 40mm is really a terrific size. may help some in their decisions and feel more confident that 40mm is not small at all by watch standards. Now i do recognize 44mm having a larger screen which can display larger fonts making it easier to read since its a information focused watch, but for me, i would have to wear glasses to read either one so that was irrelevant for me and just focused on how the watch feels on my wrist.

You're absolutely right, just google it. And now I'm not sure anymore if I want to keep the 44mm. Maybe not.

EDIT: Maybe yes, after reading this guide: https://theslenderwrist.com/watch-size-guide/ Here you can measure correctly the wrist: https://theslenderwrist.com/measure-your-wrist/ I found out that I'm not 17cm but about 18,3mm.

I noticed that small watches have a big "lug to lug" distance - bigger than the 44mm of the Apple Watch. Maybe this is the reason of that small sizes.

I have an Apple Watch Series 2 42mm and have just upgraded to an Apple Watch Series 5 44mm. You certainly notice the extra screen real estate, but in terms of overall size I don't notice any difference to my AW2.

For anyone torn between sizes that’s actually right in the middle like myself (163mm-ish) it’s worth noting that the lighter watches have a bit of a shrinking effect overall because of the contrast around the ‘dial’.

I’ve gone from SBTi to SBSS to SS now and think I landed on what’s best for me. Before getting the SS was considering the 40.

Between SS AW and or other one (black) the SS looks like more like a watch than a smart watch. Steel gives a classical look. But the other one looks pretty nice also. But I prefer traditionnel look.

Personally I think the 40mm looks better on you. 40mm on any wrist that's less than 165mm looks more like a standard watch. IMHO, the 44mm looks more like a gadget-o-matic-thing or a paroled's tracking device on medium/smaller wrists.

Anyways you're the one who wears it and at the end of the day you should go with the size you like most.

i had first ordered a 40mm and a week later ordered a 44mm just to see how it would fit. My instant reaction was "its huge". this large screen on my wrist constantly grabbing my attention. But I tried to give it a shot and wore it for 4 days alternating with my 40mm. In the end i stayed with the 40mm. it just felt more comfortable and didn't seem distracting like the 44mm as a large screen on my wrist. My wrist size is 165mm. My iPhone has a large screen and thats where I will do most tasks. My watch is just a small extension of my iPhone that stays out of my way when i need a break from tech. It keeps me connected but stays out of my way when needed.

Are you referring to earlier pics? Just to be clear, both of these pics are for the same size (44mm). Appreciate the input by the way!

Thought I'd share a Nike Series 5 40mm on a 160mm wrist. Had the Series 3 42mm before this, but the 44 looked a little big. This one feels a little on the small side, but we'll see how it goes. Both pics are 40mm.

Sorry, I had to edit the post. Both pics are of the 40mm S5. The way you take the pic actually makes a difference as these pics make the 40mm look fine on my wrist, but in person it looks smaller than this. lol

Yes it's like me. When I watch the pics of 40mm on me it's look pretty beautiful. But when I have AW in my hands it looks pretty small. lol. F****** problem lol.

Looks perfectly in proportion to me and similar to how my 40mm Nike looks on my wrist.
