Apple would be foolish if these shipped without Tiger. Not a smart move if their next experience with Apple after buying, is having to pay for an OS upgrade or having to update the OS for that matter.

Probably it would ship with Jaguar for the next 6 months. Apple will prolly hand out upgrade coupons. Anyway Tiger wont be stable until revision 3, since the underlying architecture of Tiger is heavily overhauled.

I hope that you meant to say Panther.

Do you know this for a fact?

I doubt Apple is planning on releasing a bug infested Tiger. Rather they are trying to release the most stable version that they can. Sure there will be some bugs, but come on, Jaguar and Panther worked okay when they were released. Even with changes, Tiger should be fairly stable.

A G4 Mac LC!!!

It's about time! Apple did this before with introduction of the Mac LC, and they couldn't keep them in stock!

My friends wanted to switch from a PC, but they only wanted the CPU, and the PowerMacs were way too expensive.

Great to see the LC return!!!

Ha ha ha - the G5 mini

Ha ha ha - excellent try!

Those pictures are as fake as the boobies that I don't have.

Notice how the 'G5' in the text is EXACTLY THE SAME each time... total photoshoppage!

Anyway, it made my brain race for about... well... 3 seconds... but good job whoever did this work :)

And that there is a G4 lurking around in there if you read closely enough.
Good show, good show, now on with the rumors!

well thats what i configured on the site, and it was $600 on the nose.
maybe EVERYTHING on macs are more expensive, even PCs configured with Safari. hahahaha.
I actually really love OSX, i just feel that the hardware needed for it to run is grossly overpriced, and this creates a culture of elitists such as yourself who feel that just because it costs more and looks better it truley is better. When it truley comes down to what you are doing with the computer. And all the functions i mentioned are half as effecient on a G4 1.25ghz.
I used to own a Powerbook, sold it and for the same price got an AMD64 notebook that gives me 2 and sometimes 3 times more power with nearly all operations (i didn't use final cut pro on mac, or adobe premiere on PC so i can't compare all operations), and i'm just speaking from experience.

Hey, everybody, read my 'tar. Please. :)

EDIT:

So it's got a G4 & a G5 at the same time then?
Beat ya by two minutes, edesignuk, but I didn't show them the picture. Oh well.

hehe, oh yeah, darn it :) Oh well. Saying it twice won't hurt.
You never know, some people can't handle the truth.

Would this new mini-Mac-thing have a slot loading or tray loading drive? If it is slot-loading, then mini CDs might not work. Then again, they aren't to Mac friendly anyways. Good thing to wonder about though.

Good Plan as long as it's upgradeable...

Apple has to give people a chance to switch and retain the flexibility of upgrading the hardware (a plus on the PC side). Apple should include PCI-X or AGP slots for video card and sound card upgrades, as well as multiple slots for memory upgrades. Most people who would like to convert to OS X (which is the prime reason for this conversion), always argue that the hardware is too pricey and the cheaper Mac alternatives are not convincing enough. This issue has to be addressed properly, otherwise the only customers that will buy such a machine will be devoted Mac users who refuse to abandon Apple no matter what (including me btw).

hmmmm..I didn't see this post til now

Hate to say it, but those "advertisements" are jokes. Every month iCreate has a different "What if Apple made...". There was one with an iPhone, this one with a g5mini. But they are just jokes.

That said, I think this would be one of the best ideas to come out of Cupertino in quite some time... it would be perfect for people like my parents: just need email, internet, digital photos and can't figure out what virus is infecting their stupid PC.

Here's hoping and waiting for the keynote.

Uhm, different architectures man. The clock cycles are drastically different so comparing the speed of one chip to the other isn't a 1:1 comparison. Kind of like comparing kilometers per hour to miles per hour.
Thank you. I'm not sure why were even feeding this troll.

Because if we don't rebut these, someone will come along and think that it is true.

Every time I think the megahertz myth is dead, someone proves that it is alive and kicking.

and i like how just because i present an argument that doesn't fit into the worldly-view of the devout mac enthusiast, i'm all the sudden a troll.
mature, really.

my post was in response to someone saying that $600 can't buy you any better than a low-level PC.

but if i hint that theres a flaw in anyway with this great holy company known as Apple, i'm the anti-Christ.

fine, have your cake and eat it too, i'll leave.
i'll turn my mac off of Folding for this elitist site too. Thanks for the hospitality and knee-jerk debate tactics. Ciao!!!

I agree, that's the reason I gave up posting, which means of course that I'll never get an avatar, unless I also reduce myself to posting every inane thought I have, like 95% of the posters here.

Uh, it is just a mockup... "What if Apple made" should have given that away. No one is trying to pretend that is real :)

Maybe if they get Tiger for free, they will be impressed with how easy it is to upgrade...

Anyway, I am most excited to see what design Apple comes up with. You never know with them. It could be a mini LC/screenless iBook type of thing. It could be a tiny cube. It could be flat and upright like the mockup early in this thread. It could be a cylinder.

It will also be interesting to see if Apple includes connectivity so that it can be used as a media center box -- even if that is not the intended primary purpose.
