I guess I'll be hearing from Apple Legal pretty soon.

hahaha that make me laugh :cool:

It's time has come....

Actually, I remember the morning I found out that Apple was discontinuing the G4 Cube, then there was the frantic phone calls everywhere trying to find one. Everyone was already sold out by 10:00 am. I managed to get mine off of eBay from someone who had just posted it before the announcement (with a buy-it-now for a reasonable price) who upgraded to an iBook.

The Apple website had a special page announcing the discontinuing of the Cube, which also stated that it would consider "revisiting" a small form factor Mac at a later date.

Looks like that date is about to arrive.

Getting my order ready....

Apples are way overpriced, but IMHO the software makes them worth it.

Wow, you managed to contradict yourself in a single sentence. Until the world understands that the SOFTWARE makes the computer, Macs will struggle with marketshare.

Oh boy!

What a rumour this is!
This rivals the hoopla over the G5 leak two years ago......in fact this rumour is probably bigger.
Lets go over this.....Apple is gonna introduce a computer that undercuts the imac and emac?
I dont think so.
We all know THINK SECRET has a great record with these predictions/leaks but im skeptical.
If this is a COMPUTER and not some itunes/imovie server device than they have to cripple it in some way.
They HAVE to.
Thats why i dont think it is a computer as such but the rumoured ibox/iserver device.
It only makes sense.

I dont see why they wouldn't undercut the emac/imac with a no screen included computer. It seems to me you lure people in with a cheap solution and sell them bigger as they need more. Kindof a first ones free policy. Gets you hooked and then gouges you ;)

This will undercut the eMac, but not the iMac. The iMac is a G5, this machine is just a G4. I think it's good that Apple realized that there are more markets than they were serving, and the one they were leaving out was one of the most important. This will be a fully functional, entry level computer, designed for the average user looking to replace thier aging PC. I think it will sell like crazy.

And that day, IMO, has finally come.

Why is Apple so good? Well, look at iTunes on Windows. Now imagine the whole damn OS and all appz are like that.

Yes, Apple computers are overpriced compared to Windows boxes. But then again, those Windows boxes don't come with all that useful software (and if it does, it's not as nice as what Apple includes in the default setup).

Now is the time for Apple to make a lower-cost model, something opposite to AIO. Something that PC users can grab and still use the rest of their hardware with. Except the box itself.

Add to that the viruses/spyware/trojans/etc that people have to take care of (or try to avoid). Now is the time to switch.

If both this "low-cost G4 box" and "Radeon 9600 in the eMac G5" rumors are true, this means Apple is finally waking up and offering their customers real options. Apple now has to offer something for "the rest of us" (current non-Apple users).

If they truly come out with a headless, low-cost G4 box, and an eMac G5 with a Radeon 9600... I've gone from one bad option (iBook 12", but I don't want to buy a brand new laptop with a 2-years old GPU) to two good options.

Add the "iPod micro" rumors... And Apple could own 2005. :D

Does Microsoft still has a strong grip on companies with their Office suite? I mean, the whole world is kind of waking out from a nightmare with all the viruses and the crap happening with Microsoft software right now...

And it's not like there's no alternatives, either:

For the OS, you can go from Windows to either Linux, BSD, OS X, etc.

Even if you do stick with Windows, there's a lot of alternatives to MS-apps:
- Internet Explorer -> Firefox / Opera / etc
- Office -> OpenOffice
- Media Player -> Quicktime / iTunes
- etc.

I don't think Microsoft has that many years left ahead of them (as we currently know them)... Who knows, maybe all that'll be left in a decade will be their Xbox division. :D

One big problem

There's one huge problem with the "headless iMac" rumor -- Apple does not sell a monitor that costs less than $1300. You'd think that if Apple was going to get in this game, they'd have a low cost monitor already in the market. It goes against everything that is Apple for them to come out with a computer that does not have a natural fit Apple branded monitor.

But it makes sense to port over iTunes to Windows, it doesn't seem to make too much sense to have computer system without any monitors to go with it. Not only does it undercut from the experience, but makes it inconvenient.

amen, why do you think clones were so popular? My first mac was a clone because that was all I could afford. It was ugly and not very fast but it ran Mac OS and that's all I cared about.

Well designed quality hardware is a nice but I don't think most of us buy Macs for the software.

When people go for economy, sacrificing asthetics will always happen. Hell, my dad did that when he jumped computers, has the same silly monitor he's had since the 486 computer...a 1991 NEC 3FGx. ;)

Yes, but there is some sense in what phobophobia is saying. As a retailer it makes sense for Apple to be trying to sell everything the customer may need and a price comparable monitor is missing here.

Mine takes 2 seconds after I've already opened it for the first time. Anyway what I am saying is that a G4 takes a lot longer to run these aps. and if Apple wants to come out with an easy, fast machine it needs to be a G5.
Yes my friends ibook starts it instantly no lie dude

Heheh. It sounds like you don’t get it either. The world’s greatest software that runs flawlessly it completely useless if the hardware it runs on isn’t solid and relatively fast. Conversely the most powerful, reliable hardware is freaking useless without good software. The two go hand in hand. Until Mac users understand this, Macs will struggle with market share.

I think you mean until non-Macusers understand this.

Why have a monitor? If you include a monitor with the basics, you're essentially going to jump to an eMac. If you didn't want that, but an LCD flatscreen, you jump to the iMac...if you're afraid of those all in ones, then you're going to buy that 17" monitor you saw at the local <insert computer store here>...remember, people who want a cheap machine aren't going to care that apple sells something that matches the design to the tooth and nail, and I bet that Apple already knows that when you delve into the economy line, you're not going to want to dilute your premium LCD product line with barely profitable economy tube/LCD screens...

There's pretty much no chance that the eMac will get a 9600 GPU. The iMac is selling to well right now for Apple to release a product that will draw users away from that high margin machine. I doubt that it will get a G5 because of that same reason.

I am still pretty convinced that the new eMac is this headless G4. It's perfect for schools, as they can switch labs over for a fairly low cost, keep the exsisting monitors, and probably save a lot of space and electricity (that gets to be fairly costly with 100's of machines running for 10-16 hours a say!)

Where did this eMac 9600 rumor even start? It really doesn't make much sense, if you look at Apples track record as of late...

taken for a ride

While the idea of an inexpensive, low-end Mac seems original and revolutionary, I don't think it will come true in the manner described. Regardless of ThinkSecrets past accuracy or "reliability", they either are pulling a fast one on everybody, or have been duped themselves. Am I the only one to notice that the specs their "reliable source" has so kindly and generously given them is exactly the same as the low-end eMac? It sells for $799, and already comes with a monitor (built in). So unless Apple is planning to release a 17" LCD monitor for $250 or less (thereby making the headless iMac/LCD monitor combo at $650 a whopping $50 cheaper), you might as well buy an eMac. The eMac takes up about the same amount of desk space as an LCD screen and this "headless" iMac box standing next to it or lying flat underneath. A cheap Mac is a great idea, and it's been around for a couple of years now. Wake up everybody! :rolleyes: :)
