Apple should be focusing on their poor graphics performance.

I doubt this computer will have better than the imac, which means it won't support 10.4 fully. The computer is already outdated and it's not even released yet. Also the eMac and the iBook... they've all got crappy VPU's stuffed inside.

Apple needs to focus on putting good video hardware into new models. Half of their current lineup won't run the new OS! That's pretty sad... and it's a problem. People don't want to hear that the new mac they bought last month won't run 10.4.

The current iMac IS FULLY supported form core image look at apple requirments site for Tiger

If this rumoured new Mac isn't going to be shipping until early spring, by then the technical specs are going to look even less impressive than they do now

Ya hope that it will be a bit better than rumored or good upgrades maby a g5 version would be good :D

The Next Rumor...

Okay people lets get a grip :D

Macworld SF 2005 is still several days away yet at the rate the rumors are flying it seems to be predicted that...

~Next Tuesday Steve Jobs will announce that Microsoft is going out of business, and he will be taking over the world (henceforth to be known as the iWorld). Sources say that part of his speech mentions, "I thought to myself, if I can make a better MP3 player that everyone loves, why not a better iWorld that all people will be happy with...". Leaked plans show Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California will be converted to the global iWorld iCenter and that the ageing United Nations building in New York City will be converted into a flagship global Apple Store. However, depending on the nationality listed on your passport, you will still have to pay high premiums on Apple products if you are not a US citizen.~

The Apple online store is being updated... seems like some pretty steep price drops are coming our way.

whoa.. just checked the store site... no f****g way... :D

i doubt that they would leak anything on the store now... it is probably a prep/test for rollout on monday/tuesday next week.

next week is going to be bloody massive. all apple hands on deck, looks like it, to roll all this out in a way that makes sense to consumers, developers, business, the media, and the slobbering, salivating, drooling fans (eg. like on this board) ;)

C'mon guys : just check the thread about display price drops and the new X-serves : Macrumors was spot on.

Even better (in Europe at least) : price drops across the board :

- iMacs
- iBooks
- Powerbooks
- Powermacs
- Displays

I wasn't, I was ARGUING with the guy claiming the chips are slowing down. Scroll back, man.

However, there was a few tests i recall where the 3.6 was outperformed by the 3.4 due to heat issues, but it was an exception, not the rule.

I did scroll back, and it still seems like you are claiming that the 3.6 is slower than the 3.4 due to heat.

Maybe if you'd mentioned the word "exception" back then it would have been clear.

It's also possible that the "3.4" was an EE, and it outperformed the 3.6 due to its larger cache and faster bus.

lol is this still going on ?

let me throw in my two cents worth... looks like unlike what we learnt in maths, 3.6 is not always > 3.4 and 2 is not always = to 2

this reminds me when apple claimed the g5 was the "fastest personal supercomputer..." or somethin like that... there was a big uproar and a lot of benchmark this--- specint--- that.

i am not a chip designer so i am completely lost on this whole debate :(

i am tempted to agree with some people that the size of your Ghz doesn't matter, it's how you use it ;) but it is true that for joe schmoe winblows user you sometimes just gotta have a nice big phat glossy number on the box because that's one of his/hers main point of comparison...

target market....

Another target market for this headless imac, purely on price alone, could be musicians and novice audio folks wanting to accomplish basic recording and editing functions via FW400 with third party programs from Digidesign, Steinberg, et al. Super fast graphics cards aren't really an issue, however, RAM is. Have to be able to get 512+. Curious what other audio+computer folks think about these types of uses.

the most basic emac supports up to 1GB... definitely at least 1GB on headless :)

 okay peoples, apple store changes are a go, xsan, xserves, price drop... has anyone seen these many changes just a week before macworld SF ??? this means they are "clearing" out the less important roll outs for BIG stuff in a week yeahhh

.... i am losing my mind on this bloody thread ;)

nah it's all good... lets rock and roll :D

If you wanted to, you could fit 2GB RAM in the current eMac. :)

No Sunil you're not losing your mind...

My guess is today's news takes care of stuff that should already have taken place (Xsan was delayed, it's about time for the displays' price drops and the currency adjustments for Europe and Canada). What's left for next week is either the BIG stuff as you said, or ... at the very least ... the stuff that's easier to get an audience of thousands excited about when giving a presentation on stage.

Rod Ram, please prove me wrong but according to Apple, Crucial, and MemoryX eMacs only support up to 1GB of RAM. Since the eMac has two slots for RAM, I can see how you could put two 1GB modules in, but will it recognize it? Maybe some out there has, and can commit on this. The only reason that I even mention this is so no one wastes their money thinking they can get 2GB into the eMac because they hueard that could on Mac Rumors.

More over are you risking the warranty?
