This is really fun and exciting, going through my library to see what's been upgraded so far. Safe to say (and probably obvious), that the upgrades are still ongoing. I own Fast and Furious 5-8, and only 7 is marked as 4K so far. Despicable Me is upgraded, but Despicable Me 2 is not.

I only just bought a 4K with both types of HDR a few weeks ago, so I'm pretty thrilled. Pacific Rim, with 4K and Dolby Vision, is going to be a great treat! And I really hope they do this for Blade Runner, but who knows if they're afraid of eating sales of the recently released UHD disc.

And -- lucky break to the person who had their SD version of Star Trek upgraded. All of my few SD titles, Star Trek included, remain as such.

Let hope DV HDR at 60hz works. Most UHD tv's that support DV HDR can not support it at 60 hz, only 24hz. However, most UHD tv can support HDR10 at 24 and 60 hz. Apple may have blown it by not supporting 24hz. This would also affect Netflix, Vudu and Amazon with DV, since the ATV will be sending their 24HZ DV HDR stream at 60 hz.

Do you like soap operas?

OK, but shooting movies at 60Hz does.
Correct, but they are not the same. The problem is that DV HDR on the ATV may not even work on most of the DV capable tv's since they can only process DV at 24hz. You will be forced to switch the ATV to 4K 30hz, which will create a lot of stutter, or set ATV to 1080p60 and then letting the tv try and convert DV to 4K 24hz, which will be a mess.

Here's what I noticed when checking my library for upgrades yesterday:

My "Despicable Me" Blu-ray came with an SD digital copy, and it was listed as available in 4K in the iTunes Store, because they don't have to upgrade it. Same with "Life of Pi" and others.

My "Despicable Me 2" Blu-ray came with an HD digital copy, and it was not listed as 4K. They don't want to offer that one in 4K, because they know I have an HD copy.

My WB Blu-rays that included an Ultraviolet copy instead of an iTunes file (like Kong, Fury Road, etc.) are available in 4K, because they don't have to upgrade them. The Blu-rays that included an SD iTunes copy, like Sherlock Holmes, are available in 4K, because they won't have to upgrade mine.

It seems that they have a very good idea about which Blu-ray codes unlocked an HD iTunes file, and are being careful not to make those available in 4K whenever possible. Many of the available 4K titles did not include an HD iTunes file if you purchased the Blu-ray. That's my conspiracy theory.

Okay, I… don't know. Maybe wait for the reviews and customer feedback to find out about all of this.

I too yesterday saw many of my movies and content in the store showing 4K. At some point today these films were no longer showing available in 4K. Anyone else experience this?

On iOS devices it seems to have stopped displaying 4k movies. However on Apple TV they still reside.

I think it is quite lame that the Ultraviolet codes expire.

Are y’all able to get ultraviolet movies in iTunes?

No, it's a separate service - we (in the US in case you're not) have a few UV providers, but I use Vudu specifically, which now has both iOS and tvOS apps.

I'm not 100% sure what the first quoted post is talking about, I mean, some digital codes are cross platform, so you can redeem them in iTunes or UV (some are direct, some go through a redemption gateway with a "middleman" code). Of course, Disney content is shared across different providers through DMA (but they aren't participating).

I'm confused by this:

Available in 4K where? If you didn't redeem the iTunes portion of the code, are you talking about in UV?

Warner Blu-rays do not include a iTunes digital copy, only UV. Titles like Kong and Fury Road are/were available in the iTunes Store in 4K, but those who redeemed the Blu-ray code will not be eligible for the upgrade because we couldn't redeem the code through iTunes.

If iTunes and UV get together and give me access to both libraries in 4K, I'll be happy. (This is what Disney did, but not in 4K.) But it's two separate libraries, one with a free 4K upgrade (iTunes) and one without (UV).

Ahh, OK :)

I figured it was pretty obvious, if you don't have a movie in iTunes, you can't get the 4K version, regardless of whether you own the physical media or not (and regardless of whether they're a "partner" in this 4K upgrade program), though I guess extra clarification doesn't hurt.

I mean, I get it, it's a studio listed as providing free 4K upgrades, but they don't supply an iTunes code. It would be the same if you used a one time code available to UV and iTunes to redeem via UV, you never owned the iTunes copy, you're not going to have any opportunity or an upgrade.

Same question. If so, how?

You can't (see my previous response), there was a couple of things being sort of conflated, UV and iTunes are separate services - you _might_ be able to redeem the iTunes portion of the code if they gave you separate "native" codes (vs. going through the studio gateway where you get one choice, one time)

Oh my gosh, but what if you're right? Fox's Rise of the Planet of the Apes is upgraded -- that came with an SD code, but Dawn is not -- redeemed in HD.
But, optimistically, there seems to be enough exceptions to say that hopefully maybe they're just not done upgrading so many titles. Despicable Me 2 might not be upgraded, but The Secret Life of Pets and Sing are (well, 4K but no HDR). And plenty of newer Fox titles, including Logan and Alien Covenant, are upgraded.

Sidenote: Yay! I just saw that Lucy is now upgraded to 4K when yesterday it wasn't. So, should go without saying, it is all still happening.

Edit: Oh. What do you know. Despicable Me 2 is now listed as 4K and Dolby Vision! :p This is fun.
