If I want full on 1080p/4K quality then it is physical media every time. There is no substitute for me. Until streaming can match or better it.

I do think that when the world has better access this will happen, but who knows when.

For quite a few films I will be happy with streaming, and I can see the quality drop. There is room for both. Each to their own.

Just waiting for 2001, that will be on Disc.

Oh God, back to the 1990s! I'd truly forgotten about discs until I read this thread.
Oh dear...
Plastic disc trays, sticking discs, cheap looking players, tatty cases ruining a beautiful lounge. Truly last century.

Hey I miss those cases!!!!

Sidenote Laserdics were truly the coolest looking media.

This thread, man it's like listening to everyone cry about how vinyl is better than CD, them big covers, blah blah blah. Time to get out of the 20th century :p

Whether vinyl or CD, buyer actually owns- and possesses- a copy of what they buy. And both could be argued as audibly superior to compressed-for-streaming versions of the same media.

If the path to the 21st century is stepping back in fundamentals like picture & sound quality, I'll take the 20th century versions. The promise of the tag "the future" is that it is bringing BETTER quality. In this video format debate, "the future" fails at that. Instead, some of us try to spin other benefits as if they are as important TO EVERYONE as fundamentals like picture quality & sound.

Nevertheless, those happy to trade better quality picture & sound for some other benefit... or those willing to trade tangible ownership benefits for "lifetime lease" etc, more power to them. Not everyone can value such things even if some try to amp up their attractiveness by trying to spin them as "the future" now.

I'm glad that some can love this alternative. I'll be much more interested myself when it is fully toe-to-toe on the simple fundamentals of picture quality & sound, etc. And note: I have plenty of :apple:TVs and convince friends & family to have them too. The benefits of a digital copy generally come with discs: all the benefits of this "the future" spin AND a superior quality master copy with all of the benefits of actually owning something too.

I like here...... its so retro.....

(I also prefer vinyl);)

It is not 4K regression, it is online regression.

Just buy 3D Blu Ray, UHD Blu Ray, and SACD.

Believe it or not, people still have home theaters with quality gear. It would blow your mind how much better looking and sounding physical media can be.

Black Panther is now available for rental or purchase through iTunes. Surprise, surprise its not available in 4K.

I am starting to get very annoyed and many new releases are only available in HD. If it wasn't for netflix original content, I would be watching almost no 4k content on my TV.

Even Apples 4k catalogue that was a pull factor, is starting to become a lie.

Why are you surprised at this?

No Marvel films are available in 4K through iTunes. This is because Disney owns Marvel and Disney won’t license 4K to Apple because they consider iTunes competition to their own service.

Blame someone? Blame Disney.

Actually that's not quite correct. The Amazing-Spiderman series is in 4K DD, plus Spiderman: Homcoming is too. God knows why they have licensed these ones. It's all a mystery.

They’re Colombia Pictures. Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man and Fox owns the Fantastic 4 and X-Men. These characters were the first of the new superhero wave and the deals were inked before Marvel got crazy big and strove out on their own (to then be bought by Disney).

Yeah I was sorting guessing that Sony have the licensing rights for Spiderman. They must trump Marvel over the publishing format etc,
