Video quality being potentially better on a competitor isn't enough of a reason to switch phones.
I most certainly agree with you. But that leaves me wondering why you are still comparing it to the S6 if you have made up your mind?

Read what I wrote earlier again, you like the screen better on the S6 because it is a different type of technology and the colors have more pop. The videos and pics also use more pop than iPhones which tend to go more toward realistic colors.

I considered this but the sharpness and definition on the S6 is also very, very good. If you look closely at areas on the 6s videos there's a lot of noise and lack of detail.

I'm sure Apple already tried to put the best camera they can in. I'm just stunned by the difference between the S6 and 6s in this regard.

What do you think of the regular 1080p video of the iphone? Maybe you are expecting too much added benefit from the 4k. You're eye obviously finds something particularly attractive about the way the s6 shows videos and pics over the iphone. I haven't seen many reviews that agree with your assessment of the new 4k video shoot of the 6s.

I agree with OP. The sample footage available on youtube doesn't look good at all. I'm hoping this has to do with the conversion process and that the raw files available from the phone will be as good as the reviews say they are.

The S6 footage someone linked to above looks much, much better than all of the 6S footage.

Does anyone know if any of the reviews offer downloadable 4k samples?

Hoping this doesn't turn into another "4K video is unnecessary thread" or "go to Samsung if you love it" thread.

I really would like to learn what is going on with the recording here vs. other cameras. Hoping someone with video knowledge couple pipe in. I would like to know if this is software or hardware potentially.

I love the iPhone but you gotta admit, those videos don't look as good as the samsung ones.

Hopefully the video can be improved in software. I was hoping that the 4K videos down sampled to 1080P would look better than usual iPhone videos - this is not the case... :(

I thought it was lacking but fine in high-light situations.

With the competition's great new video capabilities I was expecting 4k to bring with it a much improved video camera.

Well not all 4k videos shot with the GS6 look the same: I sense this is true with the iPhone 6s as well. See these for example. I would generally agree however with your sentiment, at least right now. It was far easier to find really incredible 4k videos from the GS6 on youtube. I actually viewed all of this on a 4k IPS monitor. Im not overly impressed with with the 4k videos produced from the 6s yet. Movement creates lots of noise on both the 4k videos shot from the S6 and 6S

Seriously, if the video was as good as the S6 it may be the only video camera I need.

4k or not, hand held video shot on any smartphone always looks like a choppy, stuttery mess. It has to be one of the least useful features on any smartphone.

I'll admit those aren't as great as the videos I linked but all of the reviewer's YouTube videos I've seen with the S6 look superior to the iPhone 6s reviewers' videos.

My 4k tv will only let me view these videos up to 720p on youtube, however on my computer it has 4k.

Every Galaxy S6 4K video I've seen has blown me away. Was expecting Apple to do even better. Seriously, this looks at least twice as good as the sample videos we've seen so far.

I'm not gonna lie, the quality of that vid looks pretty awesome!

I don't know what the issues are with the videos linked here but I saw a sample video last night (sorry can't find the link right now) that was shot on the iPhone 6S or a Plus that was stunning. Nothing like any of these videos here. I certainly can't explain it but I would reserve judgement for now.

You mean this well-executed professional video is better than the impromptu video taken by someone who just happened to get their phone early? That's a load off my mind.
