I really hope they fix it. I miss my good battery life on my 4. Now with the 4S, if I'm just simply browsing the internet my battery life drops significantly. It is nowhere near my iPhone 4 on 4.3.3. God damnit....

Yeah I'm with you on that. Standby is fine but start using the thing and say goodbye to battery.

If you're using the phone with settings exactly the same as the 4 and there is a significant difference in power consumption, then this runs against what apple are quoting.

Yes I think Apple was a little ambitious with their battery claims on the 4S combined with 5.0.

so many Devs 'testing' 5.0.1b on the 4S, and so very few scientific results?

How do you know that better results aren't just down to re-installing iOS - either one - when the very same has been suggested as a cure for some battery issues?

Have any of you guys installed the 'System Activity Monitor' app (or similar) to compare resource usage between the two iOS' yet?

Unless app settings are also included in the post -i.e: Location Services setting, & usage stats, 3g signal strength and usage, iCloud settings & usage, Siri settings & use, Reminder app, weather app, notification settings, e-mail settings & usage, etc. - then a screenshot of the usage page is next to useless.

PS: forgot to mention disabling Wi-Fi Sync in iTunes (on the PC) has been said to cure battery woes in some cases too, but no mention of it here.

Devs are capable of getting more "scientific" results via Instruments and debugging/logging (power logging in particular) -- but um, there's an NDA sort of thing, perhaps?

Apple also just released 5.0.1 b2 so possibly some more refinements. Im updating now. I could def do some very scientific comparisons and it would not violate the NDA to do so and report here but truthfully its not worth the time. I would venture that most advanced iPhone users/developers are capable of running good comparison tests as they understand the environment and fixed vs variable factors that would impact battery. Ill try and give some more feedback on this version vs the previous but may not be able to do so until the end of the weekend. I agree with the point above 100% in that comparing one persons results to another is useless because even with the same exact settings, things like 3G coverage, ram usage, etc have an impact. Best data is from someone comparing in their own environment who takes the time to carefully run a controlled test.

well, yesterday was my first day with 5.0.1b

battery life was noticeably better... while using it. went to bed with it off the charger at 20% but woke up with it dead. kinda concerned about that

but,
i got 6hrs 32min USAGE
and 19hrs 45min STANDBY

Did you just do it OTA? Mine says iOS 5.0.1 beta inside OTA and no mention of beta 2 so I hope I'm not installing the same over the same.

I did it OTA. On the iPhone 4S that was 800MB.

Just finished updating so too early to tell if battery life is improved. I didn't see much, if any, improvement with beta 1.

Used my 4S yesterday for about 2 hours listening to music and it dropped 25%. That to me is not good at all. With my old 3G and 4 in 2 hours it would only use about 10%. Took my phone to the apple store today to see what they could do and the genius told me to wait for 5.0.1 update to see if it fixes it. I have my doubts it will.

I'm not really seeing any batter life difference in either of the betas. But I will do a complete drain and recharge on beta 2 just to see if battery calibration helps.

Nope....

iOS 5.0.01 is not available. I just connected to iTunes and it said my software was up to date. So I don't know where you all are getting it from since it has not been released yet.

It is not for public release.

It is not for public release. And 5.0.1likely never will be released publicly since 5.0.2 came out 2 days later. You will likely see that one soon, if there is not yet another beta soon.

Michael

Not for public? Why not? How did you get it? Were you asked to test it?

Question is when apple release it.. Will it be worth downloading? As my battery life has been pretty good

Wondering if any Developers here have downloaded the 5.0.1 seed an seen any battery life improvement. Probably a little early for this thread to start but thought I would throw it out there.

The release is not surposed to do anything for the battery.

Yep you are early!
