The release is not surposed to do anything for the battery.

Yep you are early!

Actually, 5.0.1 beta is described as containing improvements and other bug fixes including "Fixes bugs affecting battery life". I just read that in the iOS Dev Center.

So far, however, I've noticed minimal improvement, although standby time seems to be quite a bit better.

Then go back to the older phone that has less power-intensive internals.
I'm not going to say you're an idiot, because that would get me banned. You should really, though, ease up on the Koolaide. Apple, themselves, has admitted there's a problem with battery drain.

Weird how me and others have been fine so it isn't for all

Been okay (note not great, just okay) for me too. I get 5-6 hours of usage, and 16-17 hours of standby BUT that is the nature of a software bug. It only crops up when certain conditions are met, and it can often be more then one set of condition. From informal unscientific polls around the net the number of effected users seems to be in the 10-15% range, which is enough to say there really is a problem out there that needs to be addressed.

You and I do not current meet those conditions to activate the bug, but since there appears to be no clear indication of what those conditions are, we could do something today to activate it on our phones, or we may never hit them. No way to tell. So its best for all that this issue is raised and fixed, which is what is happening.

The fact that you're fine doesn't mean that the problem doesn't exist, we have two 4Ss in our household. One has the best battery an iPhone has ever seen, the other drains like crazy, why is that? I don't know, but it is happening and Apple needs to issue a fix ASAP.

It takes awhile to get a stable build, correct? Obviously iOS 4.3.5 is going to have better battery life - iOS 4 has had several versions, iOS 5 has not.

I wish they would tweak the LED notification to flash until you acknowledge whatever you received--much more useful that way

What about heat? Have you noticed the heat issues improve or does the phone still get pretty hot?

gets really hot during what? internet browsing, calls, playing a game?

mine doesnt get hot at all, even on calls. But i dont play games on it.

I guess you haven't read any of the threads containing heat issues people are having. My phone gets hot while charging the battery, my 3GS did not. Also people have mentioned heat while doing simple tasks on the phone like web browsing.

I really hope they fix it. I miss my good battery life on my 4. Now with the 4S, if I'm just simply browsing the internet my battery life drops significantly. It is nowhere near my iPhone 4 on 4.3.3. God damnit....

Yeah I'm with you on that. Standby is fine but start using the thing and say goodbye to battery.

Same issue I'm having...smh
