Really, "usually"?
You got a link or anything to back that up your post cause this is a really important topic for some of us, and 2 hours is a huge risk, (compaired to 24 or more hours).

Yes, I can back this up. It's never consistent, because in reality the old firmware should stop being signed ASAP, but in practice it depends on server load, ect.

In past occurrences, old firmware has been signed FOR AT LEAST a few hours, and sometimes for up to 24 hours. However, there are no guarantees. So, to play it safe, you have minimally a "few" hours.

Generally it only is a couple few hours and it has always been that way in the past.

I dont think there is any scientific proof of when they stop signing old firmwares just people reporting across the web they could no longer update a few hours after the new release hit.

I certainly did not want to be in a situation where i could not update my 4s that is why i went to 5.01 but now with MN stating it works with 5.0 it was all for naught.

No biggie though i dont care about the unlocking aspect expect for resale value which will be huge for some people.

Every release is different. Generally, it only last for a couple hours at best.

Dont think it matters now. MN tweeted that the 4S release will work with 5.0

MN tweeting that the 4S jailbreak will work on 5.0 is no new info though. Until we see 5.0 jailbroken on a 4S with a working unlock, it's kind of a moot point.

The only reason to stay at 5.0 is if you want a better chance at an unlock. Trust me, if there's an unlock for the 5.0 BB there *will* be a JB. Since MN has told people to stay on 5.0 and wait a little longer for a jailbreak, and he's on the dev-team and releases redsn0w I certainly expect that he will back that up and release a JB for 5.0 (which is what his latest tweet basically said) unless there's some reason that the A5 exploit doesn't support 5.0.

I know from pod2gs original posts that his part of the exploit *does* support 5.0 as that's what it was first developed on.

Exactly Dwalls ......... there has been alot of things tweeted
(I'd prefer they just stay silent rather than leading us repetely to the edge of the cliff and back) -

I think I'm gonna stay on 5.0, and I'll tell you why.
Any JB exploit found on 5.0.1 has still got to be there on 5.0, and I would rather keep the lower baseband that 5.0 has as MN said it would be easier to unlock.

(of course I could easily change my mind after reading the next tweet)

5.1 on horizon. All 4s owners get to 5.0.1 asap

BigBoss

Apple is due to release 5.1 soon. When that happens, they will stop signing 5.0.1. This means you will only be able to restore to 5.1. 5.1 breaks the upcoming jailbreak. If you are currently a 4s owner or an ipad 2 owner, you will want to get your device to 5.0.1 ASAP. This way when the jailbreak is released, you will be able to use it. If you do not restore to 5.0.1 now, in a few days when 5.1 is out, you may never be able to get from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and only option will be to wait again.

I'm confused, no where does it say the JB won't work on 5.0
Only says we can't update to 5.0.1 once it is stopped being signed, (which is typical news) -

I could care less about 5.0.1, just want to be JB and unlocked.

How does this person know the exploit will be closed in 5.1, (when the exploit isn't even available yet) ???

Should us non-Verizon guys even shive a git?
Is this a scam, or for real?

Honestly everything i ever read from the guys in the know or the devs is so cryptic/vague you really have to read between the lines to make much sense of it :).

Wait a second !!!

"5.1 on horizon. All 4s owners get to 5.0.1 asap"

4s never came loaded with anything lower than 5.0 so what u just said makes no sense?

So what's up with that then?

----------

(Maybe it's a pissed off guy who alreaded updated and want us 5.0 folks to jump off the cliff after him?)

Your guess is as good as mine, i am just reading it like it is and trying to make some sense of it lol.

I am on 5.01 on both my devices so it matters little to me.

But iPad 2 owners could be on 4.35 and NOW is there chance so it can make sense if it was not directed at just 4s owners :).

who gives a crap about big boss...musclenerd himself has said stay on 5.0 if you want an unlock.

The bottom line is:

4s who doesn't want an unlock: go to 5.01
4s who wants an unlock: stay on 5.01

That's what I have been getting out of all this because MN has been working a long time on the oe BB that came with 5.0. cause when you upgrade to 5.0.1, u also upgrade the BB.

I would imaging the JB will work with either 5.0 or 5.0.1, but the unlock will only work with the 5.0 BB.

If I can get my 4s unlocked AND JB in 1 shot, I will never upgrade it again. :D

usually only a couple hours.

I remember it being as long as a couple days in the past. There isn't much of a pattern to go by. Though 5.0 was no longer signed almost instantly after 5.0.1 came out

Well it's new in that we've got direct confirmation that there will be a 5.0 JB for the 4S (perhaps as soon as release, judging by the way the question and answer were stated). https://twitter.com/#!/MuscleNerd/status/159237496591491072

I'll answer the OP.

5.0.

Since it appears that the JB software will support it, I'll stay on 5.0, JB, then upgrade to 5.0.1 while preserving the baseband. That way, I could still beat the signing window for 5.0.1 and keep the potential ability to unlock.
