Now that's the phone I've been waiting for.... as long as it's not heavy.... the iPhone X was so heavy! I went back to my iPhone SE and used it for two more years, but then switched to an iPhone XR and it's too heavy again! I just want my iPhone SE back and this thing looks the closest I can get.
dont think, or hope that will be lighter than the iphone 4/4s...so expect around 150-160 gr

The
exactly, by increasing the size thanks to shrinking the bezels would be an statement, but this way...its irrelevant, makes the phone just bigger and even harder to handle...keeping the footprint by reducing the bezels and notch, we could got way more top room for more icons, like dnd, alarm etc
The funny thing is come September (hopefully) we will see Phil Schiller ( hopefully) Come up with some fancy explanation as to why they made such a small increase of the 12 Pro Max model without shrinking the bezels thus throwing us their learned behavior of Steve Jobs in the form of " Reality Distortion Field".

Original SE is still the 'gold standard'. Making something very small is always much more difficult.
Nevertheless, Apple had made this a metric mantra at the time. Everything else is a watered-down compromise.

And they knew why: this dimension is most gripping for the normal hand. And this too has been genetically unchanged for some years.

It's about time someone did this comparison. Geez!
Can't wait! Finally get to upgrade from my original SE

I will be ordering the largest screen available, but that 5.4" is pretty close to the original SE so hopefully it is a viable option for those who really prefer the original SE's physical dimensions.

And I will be ordering the smallest screen available. Choice is good and Fall can’t come soon enough!

... the rumored 5.4" iPhone is about 6mm wider than the currently shipping iPhone SE and about 3mm narrower than the iPhone 7
Am I missing something here? The original quote says, “it’s ~6mm wider than the iPhone SE and ~3mm thinner than the iPhone 7”, which seems correct - and is talking specifically of the original (iPhone 5 sized) SE, not the current SE. But MacRumors quotes this and adds in the words “currently shipping”, which makes the sentence make no sense - the iPhone 7 and the currently shipping SE are the same size.

That’s a mistake.

Nice. Personally, it’s too small for me. I’ve gotten too used to the Max devices since I watch a lot of YouTube on my phone.

Would've also liked to see it vs a XS 😟

The XS is a bit bigger than the 7/8 though yeah? My brother loves a small/modern phone, grudgingly went to the XS over the Og SE for the camera improvements, if its smaller than the XS I could see him upgrading/(gifting it to him) again.

From what I understand, this won't be one of the Pro models, right? This is so bizarre to me because I would think people in the Pro market might be interested in smaller phones. Also, it's really weird to me that the iPhone 11 is larger than the iPhone 11Pro...they should be the same size. Am I crazy, or does anyone else agree with me? If you want an average sized phone, you have to go with a sub premium model.
So, it is crazy that the non-Pro model (5.4”, 12) is smaller than the Pro model (6.1” & 6.7”, 12 Pro/Max).
But it is also crazy that the non-Pro model (6.1”, Xr) is larger than the Pro model (5.7”, Xs)?

MacbookPros are roughly the same size as a MacBook Air, and when the iPad Pro first came out, wasn't the smaller size the same size as a regular iPad?
MBPs come in small and large vs MBA only coming in small.
iPad Pros come in medium and large vs iPad (Air/mini) coming in small and medium. The original iPad Pro was the 12.9” model, it later got complemented with a 9.7” model that then grew to 10.5” and later too 11”.

Even though the edges are squared, folks need not be concerned about losing the bar-of-soap feel. Apple is planning to apply a special, high tech gripophobic finish that will allow the phone to retain the bar-of-soap feel that we have come to love since the advent of the iPhone 6.

I think what phones have shown is that many people prefer very different devices, and compared to the limited approach in the past it surprises people the amount of choice the market demands currently.

I’m looking forward to this but I’m very worried about the battery life though

I'm currently using a XR. If I upgrade this year it will be to the 6.1 Pro. I upgraded to the XR from the 6S and wasn't a fan of the size at first. After nearly 2 years though, I'm used to the 6.1 screen and wouldn't want to go smaller.

So, this 5.4” iPhone sits between the original SE and the SE 2020. I just moved from the old to the new SE. Nice phone but I don’t like the rounded edges at all. My wife does, so she’ll probably have my SE 2020 this fall when I move to this iPhone 12, unless the price is ridiculous.
