I hope Apple goes even bigger. I want to look as cool as the guy in the green shirt. That stupid thing could double as a desktop monitor.

STOP THE MADNESS

I'd be willing to pay a $100 premium for a 4 inch -or even 3.5 inch- iPhone 6.
I guess I'll need a bigger screen when my eyesight starts to go but for now I really can't see why I'd want a bigger phone.

If you bought an iPhone to use it as a telephone, you are seriously overspending. For everything else than (audio-only) calls, bigger is simply better.

----------

Agreed. Apple has so far sold zero stamped sized phones.

Apple sells nothing but. Teensy-weensy screens with sub-par resolution for a huge premium. No wonder the stock is going through the roof.

People willing to pay extra $100 for 5.5" screen when 3.5" screen is the perfect size. Weird.

You assume both hands are empty at all times. They are not.

You assume that people need to use their phones at all times. They do not.

Then you'll have to asian it up a notch.

Anyway, I sure hope that too. I know lots of people who are unhappy with the 6+" phablets because they would like something bigger. I'm sure that an iPad-mini sized device with telephony, super slim bezels and 16:9 aspect ratio would sell rather nicely. That would also put Apple ahead of the competition for a change.

That's not everything.

You have:

iPhone 5s:
3 colours (silver, grey, gold) multiplied by 3 SSD points (16GB, 36GB, 64GB)
9 SKUs.

iPhone 5c:
5 colours (white, red, yellow, blue, green) multiplied by 2 SSD points (16GB, 32GB)
12 SKUs

iPhone 4s:
2 colours (black, white) multiplied by 1 SSD point (8GB)
2 SKUs

Not including the iPhone 4, that is a total of 23 SKUs. I think you get my point now.

So if you walk into most Apple stores and want an iPhone you have 23 different choices.

When someone walks into the store... the biggest decision is settling on which model: 5S, 5C or 4S

Once that's out of the way... they choose a color... then the capacity. Done.

Yes... there are 23 possible choices... but it's not the crippling decision you're making it out to be.

Model... color... capacity. It's actually quite simple.

And cleanest product line up does not mean clean. Apple should keep their product line clean always. Jobs realised in 1997 and removed a ton of worthless Apple SKUs. I don't know of anyone in Apple today who would be able to do this and prevent the product line from becoming bloated. It's a worrying trend Apple is staring down.

Like I said before... the iPhone lineup is clean. There are only a few iPhone models... but with varying options for each.

While you think that just adds complications... it doesn't.

I think you're getting too hung up on all the combinations of iPhone configurations. Yes there are a lot... but it's not as big a problem as you think it is.

Take the automobile industry. A particular car could have the following options:

- 7 different colors
- 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive
- Moonroof or No moonroof
- Navigation system or No navigation system

That could be up to 56 possible combinations with just those options. OMG!

But no... it's not as bad as you think. It's actually quite common.

People haven't stopped buying cars or smartphones because they couldn't figure it out.

I feel there would have to be something more than a larger screen to ask $100 extra for.

Higher screen res, more memory, faster CPU, better camera.

Same specs but 0.8" larger screen for another $100 I cant see happening.

With Steve gone Apple may finally add a memory card slot and only sell only one configuration like Samsung.

I think people are getting tired of the over inflated memory prices.

Reducing the number of Skews would help profit margins and would reduce the chance of building too many of the wrong configuration.

Exactly. It is only when you start (artificially) limiting or imposing options when things get confusing. I.e. "You want the satnav? Then you'll have to take the 19" alloys as well."

Fyi, that's a 7inch phone. It's almost an iPad mini. No, the 5.5 will not look like that.

You underestimate the average iPhone customer. To them what colour and capacity the phone is matters a lot. Which colour to get is so important.

My point is that this is starting a trend that if not stopped now could get out of hand. 3 models but 23 different versions. That's a lot for 3 different models.

You assume that people need to use their phones at all times. They do not.
I don't assume this. When you need to answer that call asap, are both hands always free? Many times you only have 1 hand free to answer that call.

Well, as long as the iPhone stays under 10" or so, there will be no problems in answering a phone call with one hand. There certainly is no problem in answering a call with one hand on a 7" Galaxy Tab.

I know. I posted it to show how ridiculous people look with tablets held up to their heads. If the 5.5" iPhone/Pad sells, believe me, there will be a 7" version that follows...

Too be honest, at this point i'm just hoping that the 5.5" iPhone 6 exists. There seems to be some people on this forum that continues to deny that it exists.

I could live with an extra £100 for the 5.5" model especially if the screen is made from sapphire glass.

I don't understand these large screen phone people at all. I like the 4" 5S screen size, and probably preferred the 3.5" 4S screen size. access while in a pocket would be an issue.

The question is not would it physically fit in the pocket. The question is how quickly one could whip it out. If it's larger, it would be more of a challenge.

What I want: 3.5" or 4.0" screen size with 64 gb storage, touch ID, and sapphire crystal screen.

I almost never use it as a phone but this doesn't change the fact that the 3.5 inch iPhone is perfect. If bigger was "simply better" why aren't we all carrying 17" or 19" laptops around?

I like these mockups above that show no lines across for the antennas. Hope Apple can blend them in to the background and make them invisible.

I am willing to pay $100 more fpr the 5.5" model as long as the specs are equal to the LG G3!

Jesus. Where are those days when a new device from Apple would come out and the prices of the "old" would drop and the price of the new would stay the same?.
I miss those days. Going down on this road, in 2016, iphone 8 will cost more than my car and I will have to choose if I will use my car for going to work or if I sell it and buy the iphone 8 and use the car ensurence and use it to ensure the iphone. :)

Sure, a bigger phone would be nice but there are limits to what a person can afford to burn on a phone.

You assume both hands are empty at all times. They are not.

Context. I was replying to someone who claimed that:

Most people only have one hand

Obviously that's not true either. It's a combination.

I don't assume this. When you need to answer that call asap, are both hands always free? Many times you only have 1 hand free to answer that call.

Then you answer the call with one hand. Heck, you can do a lot with one hand on a phablet, especially if it has a one-handed mode.

Most all of this worry is from people who never owned a phablet. The same thing is going on with smartwatch discussions, from non-owners wondering why wrist notifications are so useful.

It's like watching people who never ate ice cream, debating why it's no good :)

The upshot is: phablets are not everyone's cup of tea. But some of the common arguments against them are just bogus. One might as well also argue that a 4" screen is totally "useless" for watching movies, when we all know that's just another version of the same hyperbole.

In a few months, lots of people will be owning iPhone phablets. I'd say wait until then to see how much their owners complain. Or not.

It's not about base storage. It's about upgrade price. It is absolutely insane that +16GB is +$100. And I disagree about "we need less storage". What about the photos that we took? What about bigger applications, bigger OS? I remember when .ipsw is 300MB. Now it is over 1GB. It's good to enjoy what you have but we should move forward.
It is the most forward-thinking iPhone, isn't it?

You don't have to tell me about upgrade prices. In Sweden it's an additional 1,000 SEK (150 USD) per upgrade so I would be quite happy if I could've gotten mine for $200 more instead of $300. And of course we should move forward. But I think that currently means moving away from local storage and towards streaming. Say what you will about it, but everything is about streaming and "the cloud" nowadays.

That said, I obviously wouldn't mind cheaper upgrades.
I just don't think it's a priority because the vast majority will go for the cheapest possible version regardless.
It might just be better to up the base model a bit instead of lowering upgrade price, since they can mass produce it at a much larger scale.

I know. I posted it to show how ridiculous people look with tablets held up to their heads. If the 5.5" iPhone/Pad sells, believe me, there will be a 7" version that follows...

The next device larger than 5.5" is called the iPad mini. It's already out.
Also, even among the android phones where most if not all of the flagship phones are +4.5" the need for a 7" isn't showing much traction nor need. (Other than Samsung being Samsung by throwing anything out there to see what sticks, heck they actually succeeded with the +4.5" galaxy phones and even the Note)

Your concern isn't much more than sarcastically mocking those who genuinely benefits from using a larger phone.

Now if only I didn't have to pay an extra $100 for each level of memory I wanted in my phone. Which FYI doesn't cost that much to double. I like the way google handles it. It's like $50 which is way more reasonable.

I doubt I will go for it, I had a Note 3 and it was too big and I ended up selling it.

I have checked out the Nokia smartphone/phablet. I can never see myself using it as a smartphone. My ears are pretty small! :D

Shut up and take my money already.

But I expect some spec bumps with that $100 and extra size - bigger battery, 32gb base storage, 2gb RAM...
