If you buy an iPhone with flat screen, you can't have curved screen option, but if an iPhone with curved screen, you can have the both options, off course if the software allows it

There should be a reason to use “curved” displays on the phone. I wonder if Apple has even found that reason (if it exists). I’ve not used the Samsung Galaxy Edge 7, but I’ve anecdotally heard the curved display feature is little more than a gimmick. I suspect that Apple could / would implement this feature in a better way. But something none of these rumours has suggested, is maybe it’s not happening because it isnt’ warranted.

lol. it's macRUMORS. These types of posts have been going on since it's creation.

It's not the articles, it's the negativity you're tired of. Unfortunately, Apple and Cook have a BIG hand in that now.

no i get it, but it's the same posts over and over again. it's getting a little redundant

First off you can't have 2.5 Dimensions. Also the current iPhones have more of a curve (chamfer) than that in the 2.5D image

I can say with certainty that for most consumers, the curvature of the glass falls between color of pcb and number of stickers included in the box in their list of priorities when it comes to buying a smartphone. For me personally, I think number of stickers might be more important - can we get some rumors on that?

I don't care about curved (or not curved for that matter). I would just love for the entire face of the phone to be one giant screen.
really why are we getting bog down with flat or curved screens - especially if the curved screen provides no benefit to the UI.

I disagree. Look back to 2004-2006, when the unsubstantiated PowerBook G5 rumors were flying around. There were no articles about the minutia such as curvature of the screen or how rounded the corners of the body would be. The rumors were about this chip, that chip, liquid cooling, air cooling, gas cooling, innovative new heat sinks, video cards, etc.

It seems the rumors and speculation has become a lot more superficial and inconsequential. This chip or that chip actually influenced the decisions of buyers and things like battery life and wishlist performance. The curvature of the screen isn't a priority for any buyer.

My bet is on Apple sticking with the typical update cycle for this years iPhone. We will see no more than a 7S and 7S Plus with OLED screens as the big reveal. Hopefully with reduced bezels.

Prediction: The muted response to the unchanged design may hold sales back, but the hype surrounding OLED will surprise pundits and Analysts alike with near record sales.

Translation: Business as usual.

Opinion: I'm ok with that.

Yesterday, a report claimed the high-end iPhone will have a curved display, but with gentler curves than Samsung's Galaxy S7 edge. MacRumors has confirmed the report refers to a display that is slightly curved at the edges below 2.5D cover glass, meaning the display itself cannot be dramatically curved.

I don't see the appeal of the curved screen / display. I am hoping for a more squared-edge flat screen, but the rumors don't support that.

4 years in a row with the same design?

Opinion: my wallet is happy, I'd stick with my 6s :)

What have we come to when such triviality - whether something is slightly rounded or not - has seemed to achieve such importance?

People really care about the precise design of something that is in their hand a significant portion of the day. The curvature will impact the look and feel in a noticeable way.

Curved edges are extremely inconvenient when it comes to dropability.

Many phone cases have a raised lip so the glass doesn't directly hit the floor when dropped. A curved edge would make that very difficult.
