How about a flagship small phone one of these days?

I have an IPhone SE and, while I'm looking forward to going back to Android (not a fan of iOS), this is a very good (almost) flagship device. Aside from the lower resolution front camera and 3D touch, it's essentially a 6S in a smaller, more attractive in my opinion, package.

Perhaps an iPhone SE2?

A9/10 cpu
4-4.2" display give me full 720/1080p resolution for media consumption
1.2+ MPfront camera and back camera to match IP6S at least
And iPhone 7 curved body for device lineup unification.
Please.
  1. It already has the A9 SoC
  2. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference on a 4" screen anyway.
  3. It already has the same rear camera as the 6s
  4. Agreed :)

The only reason Apple would use a "curved" display was to eliminate the physical buttons on the sides of the iPhone, replacing them with on-screen "buttons". There is no other good reason to have the screen wrap around the sides of the phone.

I think a lot of people want some iteration of the iPhone (or other non-Apple product) that looks like something they've seen in a sci-fi movie. They're picturing some all-screen device that is thin, but has unlimited battery life (cause when has anyone ever seen devices in movies need to be charged?), won't break if they drop it and might even be completely clear like a piece of glass.
iPhones already look like something out of a sci-fi movie! All they need now is to make that tricorder scanning sound... :D

No thanks. Have you seen the curved screen of the Galaxy phones? It's terrible. Wasted screen real estate and it looks distorted. It's a gimmick, just like curved TV's. Serves no useful purpose no matter how you slice it.

I'll take flat please.

I'm being totally honest here, I tried the curved display on the S7 Edge because I thought it was so great and was the next big thing since sliced bread. I ended up hating it. It was too curvy for me and distractive when looking at the screen. Protecting it was a nightmare and I just hated the look of it with any case on it unable to properly protect the sides of that screen.

Now, the Note 7's curved edge was much better over the S7 Edge but in the end, I handily prefer a flat screen over any curved one. The iPhone in it's current state with the way the screen is flat but with a slight over the edge look I think is the greatest look in a phone I have ever seen. If they carry that over with the OLED screens it would be very nice and premium looking.

Oh, look at all this righteous indignation. How cute.
iPhone SE is regurgitation, truth hurts.

Apple have never positioned SE as a premium device, hence their talk about the recycling on its launch day. What I meant to say was that SE still handles most iOS tasks remarkably well. Its Touch ID works fine for me (you just need to keep the home button clean), stereo speakers in a phone is quite a joke anyway, its face time camera lets people recognise me instantly and I can live without a barometer. :) Different devices for different needs, with SE still being a great compact one, imho.
Give me compact 4" in all brand new device. Shut down SE immediately :D
[doublepost=1489435899][/doublepost]
Is that why the SE has generally been selling well? No barometer makes it embarrasing? (sic) Basically pay less, get less, but for those who want a smaller factor without the latest bells and whistles, the SE seems totally up to task. It's not embarrassing in the least. To each their own.
Hello, small factor and bells and whistles is what customers want. This isn't difficult to achieve. I refuse to upgrade as do others until Apple makes brand new 4" devices. Steve Jobs would have discarded iPhone 5/5s/Se in 2013. Somehow it continues under a completely unimaginative Apple Inc.

I appreciate that they are different phones, but still cannot find a single feature making SE less adequate than its bigger siblings for my day to day use.
Different phones, with different and lesser features (iPhone SE).

Okay, this SE may be unimaginative but there is a thought to give the customer what they want.

Customers don't want this. Customers want a brand new 4" iPhone. Other customers want 4.7, and others want 5.5. Make all three sizes together and all brand new. Apple is honing stupidity instead if simplicity. With iphone SE, there is no thought other than attempting to make sales out of old junk. SE is a junk device with junky old components.

I'm not sure how you could possibly know what the hundreds of millions of Apple customers could want.

You're all sad, sad little people! It's a ****ing phone. It makes phone calls that's it and yet you're all so excited about a product. PATHETIC.

I love the irony of your post. Looking at your posts, you obviously don't like Apple products and are quite clearly a troll. Yet you're the one calling people sad & pathetic. Funny.

I never use screen protectors, so I don't care either way. I'll enjoy both Samsung curved displays and whatever type of display Apple uses.

Except for the sales numbers, some conclusions can be drawn from them.
It really is left over components of the 5S cobbled together with the A9 processor and sold. They didn't even bother improving the display(not even 720P) or the storage. Trash may be a harsh word but it is what it is and the fact of the matter is even trash from Apple would still sell considering the book they sell for 300

Customers are happy and Apple is making money. Seems like a win-win for both. Some people are smarter and won't buy that "trash " they'll go right to the $1000 flagships.

Its better to pay $1000 for a flagship then pay $500 for rehashed components just like how the 7S is a cash grab for being almost 80% of the cost the iPhone edition but uses rehashed components. For the money you pay its not at all worth it considering it costs 75% of what the latest flagship does and uses a display from 5 years ago. Nothing but a cash grab

They are making the cash :). As to whether or not the SE is worth it, I hope you agree you can only speak for yourself and not for the customers who already bought one.

I switched to an S7 Edge last December. I have had 6 previous IPhones. Have no problems with reflections on the edge, very few if any false triggers from the side, and I am not bothered by text or graphics curving on the edge. I must be special, but I keep seeing all these posts about how bad the Edge is and I don't have any of those problems. The phone is very good. I loved my Iphone's also. My only problem with The S7 is inconsistent battery usage. You really have to keep up with making sure your settings are correct and that battery draining apps are turned off.

Apple is widely expected to launch an iPhone with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display later this year, made possible by slimmer bezels and no Home button. And while some reports have claimed the screen will be curved like the Galaxy S7 edge, a growing number of sources expect a flat display.

"We anticipate Apple will adopt a flat implementation of OLED design on their special iPhone model, which is analogous to the current 2.5D glass design," IHS Markit analyst Wayne Lam told MacRumors today.

"Much like the recently announced LG G6, we anticipate a touchscreen with a new longer aspect ratio design to take advantage of higher coverage area of the iPhone in its entirety. This new design language is expected to become the trend for 2017, as we all anticipate Samsung's reveal later this month," he added.

Lam is referring to the LG G6's 5.7-inch LCD display with a 2:1 aspect ratio, meaning the screen's length is double the size of its width. iPhones have a 16:9 aspect ratio. Leaked pictures of Samsung's Galaxy S8 reveal a similarly longer OLED display with slim bezels and no physical home button.

Last month, he noted that the LG G6 achieves a large screen while remaining holdable and pocketable:While he ruled out having any insider information, display expert Raymond Soneira of DisplayMate told MacRumors that flat OLED displays using a glass substrate "cost considerably less" and are "available in much higher production volumes" than curved OLED displays using a flexible plastic substrate.

"The existing iPhone 7 has 2.5D cover glass with a flat glass LCD display, so Apple could make a similar 2.5D OLED display using a glass substrate OLED display at lower cost and much higher production volumes," he said.

Soneira has been tracking OLED displays in smartphones since 2010, and after a span of just seven years, he believes OLED display technology is now exceeding the performance of the best LCDs for smartphones.

He said OLED displays provide a number of significant advantages over LCDs for smartphones, including being thinner, lighter, and more power efficient for most image content. OLED displays also have a very fast response time, better viewing angles, higher peak brightness, and often better color accuracy.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Chinese research firm TrendForce have also recently said they expect Apple's next flagship iPhone to have 2.5D cover glass, which refers to the slightly curved edges that the front of iPhones have had since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2014.

Conversely, The Wall Street Journal recently said Apple's next high-end iPhone will have a curved screen, but the report did not divulge any specific details. The Korea Herald also said the device will have a curved OLED display using a flexible plastic substrate, rather than a flat display based on glass.

IHS Markit analyst Kevin Wang previously expected the 5.8-inch iPhone to have a curved display, possibly with dual curved edges like the Galaxy S7 edge, but the research firm has since reversed course, which is understandable given Apple has reportedly tested at least ten different iPhone prototypes this year.

Japanese website Nikkei Asian Review and Barclays analysts have also outlined expectations for an iPhone with a curved display in the past, so there is clearly a divide between the rumors that might not clear up until "iPhone 8" part leaks likely begin to surface over the coming weeks and months.

One possibility is that reports calling for a "curved" screen are actually referring to the 2.5D cover glass, which would make an edge-to-edge display appear slightly curved. Or, given the flexible properties of OLED, some reports might be simply assuming the next iPhone will have a curved display, when a flat design is still an option.

Samsung is expected to supply Apple with OLED displays in 2017. IHS Markit and other sources expect Apple to use OLED on a larger number of iPhone models in the future. IHS noted the longer aspect ratio will afford Apple new uses of the display, such as Touch Bar-like functionality.

[doublepost=1489510248][/doublepost]I certainly hope this is true. Curved screens are ugly as F*** and serve no purpose. I don't trust Apple any more to not follow the crowd, even if the crowd jumps off a cliff, but maybe they have avoided the curved screen goofiness.

Because a curved display is stupid.
Yep, having the ability to use the full width of the device as a screen is stupid...

What is the world coming to, people wanting bigger phones with more bezels these days. Wow.

There is no drawback with a curved edge display at all. No, the screen does not seem distorted when you actually use the phone and false touches can be eliminated through the settings if you ar clumsy or don't want the outer edges to be responsive.
[doublepost=1489587344][/doublepost]
I must be special, but I keep seeing all these posts about how bad the Edge is and I don't have any of those problems.

Same here, I think it is excellent actually doing the most out of the width of the phone. Will never, ever go back to a phone with bezels on the side just to avoid it being curved like lot of people (who clearly have never used a curved display) think is a the superior solution.
