He'd better not. Than the rest of us pay for his stupid mistake.

I dare the OP to post a youtube video of him crashing his Seiko into a concrete wall the same way he did his new watch and showing us the lack of scratches.

Integrity is when you do the right thing even when it hurts. If the OP has integrity, he'll either keep the watch or sell it. But returning it to Apple would be dishonest.

I disagree with your interpretation of integrity.

You could always sell in on Craigslist. There are a lot of people who wouldn't mind paying to get it replaced under AppleCare once you sell it. Sold my scratched SG BSB 42mm for $600 without AppleCare. Just an idea.

Lol, what??
Are you under the impression that you can buy an Apple Watch (or iPhone or iPad or any Apple product) used & broken from an unauthorized third party off of Craigslist & then put AppleCare on it without bringing it to a store for an inspection.... then run a vicious scam on the company??
*smh*
I mean... you can call 800-MY-APPLE and ask them. I don't think you'll be able to hear the answer over the sound: "hahahahahahahahahahaha".

Also, does AppleCare on your iPhone and iPad cover accidentally scratching it??
No? Mine either. Don't see why it would be different on Apple Watch.
So, unless you're one of those that has no shame in recommending others commit fraud & publicly flaunt it... I really don't see the solution in your idea.

You call Apple, provide proof of purchase and they run a remote diagnostic to approve the AppleCare request.

AppleCare+ covers all accidental damage. Please review the AppleCare pages on Apple.com prior to further comments.

Applecare+, not applecare.

Thx to both of you for the clarification.
I think I was thinking ac, not ac+.
Perhaps I did not properly understand the difference.
If that is indeed the case, & they will cover even cosmetic scratches, & add it sight unseen... I stand humbly corrected.

Edit: really not trying to start an argument where none exists... but, it also occurs to me: how would one provide proof of purchase from something off Craigslist... technically, couldn't it well be stolen? Those are all local cash deals.

What if he returned it but said exactly what happened? I did that with an iPod touch that I dropped in a river. Free replacement and I was fully honest about what I did.

Yikes, that sucks. And it be too hard to get a replacement now because they're in such limited supply

And the defect would be...? That the watch auto-collides with scratchy things? That scratches appear out of thin air, like words on Regan's stomach? Please elaborate.

Yep. According to Apple, "we used an aluminosilicate glass that’s especially resistant to scratches and impact." Clearly it's not scratch or impact resistant.

One of the nice things about living in America is that our 2-week return policy is pretty generous. It would be in your best interest to take advantage of that perk.

I scraped the bumper of my car on the garage wall earlier today.

I'm on to Mercedes Benz now to see if they will cover the cost for me...
This exactly.

Sucks that OP's watch is scratched but not sure how/why that's apple's issue.

----------

Just wish I could be rich like you SS / sapphire guys! :/
Or just be more careful with your watch?

Try a screen protector.... I had some deep scratches on one of my past iPhones and putting the protector on it made them all but disappear.

----------

I disagree with your interpretation of integrity.

Lots of people without integrity probably feel the same as you do.

----------

Clearly it's not scratch or impact resistant. .
Sure it is.... Resistant doesn't mean proof.

y u lik being chump?

This is the reason why I bought SS. I got Micro scratches on the casing, but nothing polish can remove after a year or so. That Sapphire Screen is quite scratch resistant, but I was worried about sport with the ion-x material

The majority of the scratches on your watch are in the same direction/pattern, I would say they were caused by a "major accident". I'm sorry for the scratches, if you want to get rid of them, try putting on a screen protector, most of the not-so-deep ones will be invisible with a screen protector on.

There's going to be a lot of angry, angry Sport watch owners in about 6 months.

I think it's just as handsome as the SS, in its own way, but it seems pretty fragile. I've seen threads here showing folks giving their SS watches big ol' dings and sanding/polishing it till it looks perfect.

The Sport is going to be a debacle for Apple. People paying $400 for a watch should be allowed to expect better than this.

Thanks for your helpful comment and support!

Oh, you want "support"? For what? The fact that you were careless and scratched your watch?

I'm no idiot..

And yet... here you are expecting Apple to cover the cost of your negligence...

just coming to terms with my own dumb mistake. It hurts seeing a 5 day old, $400 watch not be able to withstand the same abuse that my $60 Seiko did for years and years.

Ok, you just need to MTFU and accept that you were careless, move on and not expect others to pay for your mistakes.

One of the most anything things we suffer with in the UK is (lots of) people who simply expect others to pick up the tab for their mistakes and it really grinds my gears.

I've come from a £100 Casio G-Shock to and Apple Watch.

I was/am aware that after many years of wearing G-Shocks that I'm probably not careful when moving around generally, as the watches are all but bulletproof.

So, when I got my watch I made/make conscious efforts to not knock/bang it around as if I had a G-Shock on.

I wasn't convinced this would be feasible in the long term, so I got myself a Spigen Rugged Armor and a screen protector.

Do I prefer the way it looks on it it being naked? No, absolutely not, but do I feel more confident that it will withstand the odd knock and scrape?

Absolutely I do.
