A lot of that is preference.
Thank you, Cpt. Obvious...

. When is making a choice whether or not to purchase a luxury good,
not preference?
Also, a lot were actually objective measurements...
Objectively better macro by far
objectively stronger processing (which cannot be undone later)
Actually heavier device
actually sharper edges
actually thicker profile
actually bigger screen.
actually more intrusive Dynamic... (sorry, I puke a little bit in my mouth when I hear an adult say it) Island, that is visible in more playback media than the notch since it digs further into the image than the notch ever did.
This is especially egregious now that 21:9 is becoming more and more common for cinematic and gaming videos and is a backwards step.
But yes, you are right, it is preference.
It's possible that one would like non removable processing,
like a heavier device, like sharper, less comfortable edges,
like a thicker phone,
like a camera that intrudes more into their media.
The fact is that most of these are tradeoffs for the benefits of a bigger screen with thinner bezels, a more modern design and a bigger battery to offset the more powerful CPU.
