Have both the 5C and 5S...
Same thing guys.
After one week with both phones, in my view it comes down to:
Do you like awesome colors with a grippy case...
Or the old 5 style with a less grippy but nice leather-looking case.
Otherwise, same experience.

For people that actually use it for more than light browsing it's different.

Speed. The speed is not at all the same.

And minus the Gyro/Compass malfunctions and the bend-ability options the 5S has.

My gyro is fine. My phone isn't bending. And I'm sure if more 5Cs have sold or more 5C users were likely to post their issues we would know of some. Had anyone even tested a gyro or compass on the 5C?

Honestly what does it matter? They are both Apple products. That's what matters. It doesn't matter if you seen a difference or you didn't see a difference ... The fact is they are both superior products.

A 5s owner wants to say they have a better phone .., so what!!! The 5c is a wonderful phone and so is the 5s. It doesn't matter if one is better or not.

As far as the sales go... No one knows how many of each sold, but in talking to the employees at my Apple store ... They said that the 5s is more popular but the 5c is not far behind... Therefore I'd say quite a few have sold.

Saying the 5C is just a 5S in another package, or the "same experience" is like saying driving a Ferrari is the same experience as driving a Toyota.

Sure, they both drive down the road, have steering wheels, engines, tires, windshields... so they must be the "same experience" right???

The A7 literally SMOKES the A6 (and the A6 was no slouch). The camera is noticeable better, even to non-techies (my wife), and the fingerprint scanner is the slickest "Apple doesn't innovate anymore" innovation in a LONG time. Mainly because it works 99.5% of the time and soon became something I will never want a phone WITHOUT. It's that convenient. Is it a "killer app"? Nah, but it's still hella nice to have.

Look, the 5C is great, and if you couldn't find a 5S, or the pastel colors were your thing... heck even if you couldn't afford the 5S, fine. It's a DARN nice phone. But it is NOT the "same experience". No more than a Ferrari is the same as a Toyota. If you are saying that, you obviously haven't spent more than a few minutes with a 5S. The 5C is the "same experience" as a 5. Not the 5S.

Lol, I agree with you. However, the 5C vs 5S is more like a Audi (5C) vs. Porsche (5S). Both German engineered and good performers. Porsche (5S) being the better of the two as far as raw performance goes.

5C same experience as 5S

Why is it bad for a 7 yo to have a phone? Please explain.

Think what was meant was that most people wouldn't buy a 7 year old an iPhone. Most would opt for samsung or HTC lower tiered models rather than high end hundreds of $£€ handsets :)

After using the 5S fingerprint scanner for two weeks, I'm going to have to disagree that they're the same experience.

We use an Exchange server at the office and it requires the connected mobile device to have a password set (you can turn this off server side, but I'm not going to request IT make an exception for me).

After being able to use my fingerprint instead of 4-digit code, I can tell you it's a completely different (better) experience for users who have a pass code set.

Does it work every time? Hell no. Is it a lot more convenient when it does? Yes.

Well... I had myself talked into going to the 5c from my 4.

Then I decided I did really want the new camera features since my DSLR has a busted shutter button, and my iP4 doesn't take great videos in the gym. So, i'll jump to the 5s with 64gb and be set - all while being able to take more gymnastics videos than *I* would care to watch again... but she wants to see them!

So, now I just have to get it ordered. And stay out of the Verizon store - or I will cave to the instant 5c experience (my phone is having some issues).

Fingerprint is the single feature that got me to move. It works 99.9 % of the time for me. I enrolled 3 fingers and as long as they are dry the scan is successful.

Cheers,

Or...maybe have the 7 yr old involved in more social ( playful yet learning ) activities which include interaction with nature, society...real people so he/she doesn't grow to be an introvert / loner.

I don't have any kids yet, but I would think outdoor activities would be much more beneficial to a kid's overall personality development and enhancement instead of staring into a gadget which secludes one from enjoying other (more enriching) forms of entertainment.

Now, if gadget usage is monitored, regulated, and balanced it'd be great! Unfortunately, I see a lot of parents occupying their kids with such devices as a form of escapism from their nurturing duties, and I'm not pointing at anyone here per se, so please don't take this as a stab at you.

Our seven-year-old also has one, using it 99.9% of the time for photography, which usually occurs outside in nature. These are not exclusively social shutout game devices, and also make a great calculators.
The compass is pretty useful outdoors as well.

I have read some of the remarks here, I suppose depending on what you're using these for there may be a slight difference? For me the two models are pretty much identical. I have never owned or driven a Ferrari but I can't imagine Ferrari versus Volkswagen would apply when it comes to the differences between the C and S..., but I would say the difference is sort of like the difference between a Tesla 60 and a Tesla 85 with iPhone 6 perhaps getting us to
P85+?

Ferrari!

You might have a bit too much of your ego attached to your cellphone, there.

More like a Toyota & a Toyota S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjNtbOGTrsE

1. disqualified from offering parenting advice then. Sorry! :p
2. MacRumors is NOT a parenting site, tread lightly in this area.
3. The person that posted did not say a WORD as to what their child does with the iPhone. HOw do you know they aren't out there in the world?

My kids have iPod Touches, they use them as cameras - I just dumped 3,700 pictures off my youngest's! (she is just 9) They used them to take winning NATURE pictures in the counties photo contest in February, I think the oldest used her phone for hers too.

Reasons my kids could use an iPhone: 1 less device to track (they just misplaced their flip phone and charger), 1 device to take pictures and Skype/message wtih their Dad (divorced, he travels for work), 1 less device to track.... the iPod Touches (4th gen refurbs btw) are never out of their sight. Unlike this blasted flip-phone their dad gave them.

Honestly, if I could easily have an iphone without data for them, I would. My oldest (17) has an iP4 as a go-phone with no data. Works well, she loves it!

But mainly... please don't assume you know what or why they give their kids what they do and those kids are glued to a screen all day.

Deal?

Wow how many people who bought the 5c keep making these threads just to justify their purchase?

LOL! Not even close to being right.

I have the 5, I use the phone for making phone calls, texting and internet.
5c is the same 5s is faster.
Not interested in the 5s because making phone calls and texting (most of the things I do with my mobile phone) can't be faster because it depends on the network. (launching the apps is 0.20 seconds faster but I really don't care)
It's just a phone.

1. disqualified from offering parenting advice then. Sorry! :p....

Deal?

lol agreed. Hence the disclaimer at the end of my post :p

Two of my cousins have a 6 yr old and 11, so I have *some* [ negligible ] experience with kids. But, yes you [ along with other real parents ] are far more experienced so I won't delve in this anymore.

Also, didn't mean to de-rail the thread, so once again, my apologies to the OP.

-------------
I did spend some time with the 5C as I waited for to pick up a 5S, and it is indeed very well done by Apple. I do, however, find the 5C a bit Fischer Price looking. Performance-wise, I thought it's quicker than the 5 and not so compared to the 5S, but not by a huge margin for day-to-day usage.

Gamers will notice a difference, but for the casual user, I doubt there'll be any substantial variance between the two.

Is Slo Mo, finger print sensor, way better CPU/GPU, and better Camera worth $100? I say that's a bargain for $100. I think the 5C comparatively is a complete rippoff.

While I have a 5S and don't regret upgrading to it from a 5, I believe for the most part the OP is correct, at least for most users. The experience upgrade used to be much more significant from 3G to 3GS and from 4 to 4S. I believe this has to do with iOS 7 animations, who would be the bottle neck when launching apps and the 5 can handle them just as well as the 5s. Games like infinity blade 3 launch much faster, and if you edit video it will get done in half of the time. But for most users, the 5 and 5c are fast enough to notice any difference in the tasks they perform.

I agree ... bought a green 5c and it does everything I need it to do ... really fast.

It is the colour that sold me ... was using an iP4 before I went green :D
