And will always be, as it is short distance and doesn't go through obstructions such as walls.

They placed a bad bet on Ultraband. They don't have enough lower band spectrum.

Their lead over AT&T and Verizonwill likely keep increasing.

"T-Mobile continues to expand its 5G network in ways that its rivals cannot match."

"The New Street analysts argue that AT&T and Verizon may never catch up to T-Mobile's lead in 5G spectrum ownership"

That merger and mid band going to take them places!!

Until sub-6 5G matures a little, I’m perfectly happy on LTE. This is on AT&T faux-5G aka still LTE which uses aggregation. 140 Mbps is faster than my home cable most days (supposed to be 150, but we all know how that goes with Comcast)

5G sucks and is a major scam man.

The carriers and the phone manufacturers had to come up with something quick to try to entice us to upgrade.
Not sure I agree with you, In the UK on O2 I went from £18 a month for 25Gb 4G data to £14 a month for 100GB 5G data.
Speeds are much better, and surely will get better over the next few years?

Nice! In the US the carriers always screw us over.

I’m sure the speeds will improve but I mean they’re still not that much better than what LTE provides.

5G smiveG I want it as option. Leave phone on auto, if I need it, it turns on. if it’s not faster or don’t need the speed, it automatically goes to LTE. The big news most people don’t seem to comprehend is that with the Qualcomm modem instead of Intel the LTE speed increase is huge, in my checks showing speed increases of 4 and 5 fold. Regardless of bars.

The better Qualcom radios are worth switching from my 11PM alone. So regardless of your carrier, location, 5G coverage, the LTE speed increase is huge.

It’s sporadic and varies greatly in my area. Some places, it’s horrible and some places great. And I have AT&T.

I don’t have a 5G plan, but LTE on this 12 Pro is about 2x to 3x faster in my area compared to my 11 Pro Max on AT&T.

I’m considering switching to TMobile since they have the best mid band 5G coverage in my area, but it’s still not at my house. If I moved half a mile in any direction, I’d have access. 😂

5G is in its infancy and several years away from becoming a must have
Right now it’s limited to a few city’s (the mmWave) and even in those cities it’s very spotty. Don’t buy an iPhone for the 5G buy it because it’s a good phone
If the 5G was activated all the time it’s doubtful we would get more than 5 hours battery life at this point in time
I really don’t think Apple would have come out with a 5G iPhone yet except that Samsung’s got one

AT&T 5G is seriously weak sauce. No one should change a plan to get 5G on AT&T.
It is and the only reason I changed is to get the 100gb limit before slowing. I always hit my limit with old plan. And it’s other same price as my old one

5G UW is gimmicky at best, somewhat useful for congested areas at worst.

Verizon was really betting it all on 5G UW and we don’t know yet if this was the right move or not. AT&T and T-Mobile went with mid band 5G first.

The speeds are nice with 5G UW but it’s literally just a number on a Speedtest.

I downloaded an episode on Netflix connected to 5G UW and it took about a minute to download (the episode was about 1.2GB large) - that’s still only roughly 150-200mbps while every speed test I was running was over 2gbps.

With the speeds I was being quoted at I was thinking it would download in seconds, nope.

I’m sure at concert venues or big events it’ll be useful. Otherwise, meh.

The good news is you can now do IOS updates over 5g. So that is a plus even if the speeds are the same as 4g

5G isn’t a scam. Customers upgrading solely because of 5G had the opportunity prior to, to educate themselves on what 5G is and whether or not it is in their current area, not to mention whether or not it could make a noticeable difference in day to day usage. The fact that many here upgraded in spite of the facts of 5G, is on those who upgraded. No one was forced to upgrade. And there certainly hasn’t been any reason someone couldn’t return the phone if said persons were not happy.

Playing the victim card does not work.

What's coverage like inside places like thick walled buildings and malls? 4G in some parts of my city gets completely cut off.

In my area (Sacramento CA region), I'm seeing 80-200 mbps download on 5G and generally more bars of signal than before. It's not millimeter-wave speeds but it's still an improvement and plenty fast enough for efficient browsing. I'm happy with the upgrade.
I am experiencing similar speeds in Boulder CO. Very happy with the upgrade.

Apple using it as marketing ploy for their new phones. Most of the time I’ve seen LTE faster than 5G on my 12 with Verizon. My latest Speedtest with 5G was pathetic and 5 bars.

Sure Apple has used 5G in their marketing. Nothing wrong with that. Many here have made assumptions they shouldn’t have made (in spite of the facts) and now they are angry and disappointed that their speed test doesn’t get great numbers and is slower at times than LTE.

It is up to the consumer to educate him or herself prior or purchase. And like I said previously, there is nothing preventing the new phone owners from returning their phone if they are not happy.

So we got wireless providers and cell phone manufacturers pumping 5g when the average user will not see a difference. Ok sound legit. I foresee the FCC getting involved soon. JMO

That certainly could happen. And in my opinion, the FCC should start with AT&T. If the carrier reps lied in order to get someone to buy a new phone, then that carrier should be fired, in my opinion.

If we don’t educate ourselves prior to as best we can, then the onus is on us, not Apple or the carriers. We have to poke as many holes in the marketing drivel and find out what the truth is for where we use our phones. And even with being as vigilant as we can be, we will still make mistakes. Never keep a phone you aren’t happy with.
