Central FL Area
I have Verizon and our area has good LTE coverage along with 5G service according to their coverage map on their website. But I'm really disappointed with how slow the 5G speeds are in my area. Apparently there is the basic 5G service then there's the 5G UltraBand service which from what I understand is very very limited at this time. Okay, I get that. But I surely would have thought 5G basic would be as fast as the current 4G LTE speeds in my area if not faster. Hell no. I'm getting like 6mbps on 5G in my area.

Who else is disappointed with their 5G service?

I’m wondering if there are any carrier 5G maps so we could look at actual availability in a specific area (like where you live, work, or travel?

Verizon's 5G coverage map shows my entire area with 5G service. Of course my iPhone Pro begs to differ.....

I was just saying that in another thread. My 12 pro from Verizon is slower than any of my previous iPhones. Web pages load painfully slow. Streaming buffers constantly. Even a simple small app from the App Store. Takes a while to install. Verizon had no idea. Cause I’m on the latest 5g plan with Disney bundle. So I am on the right plan. Yet Verizon hasn’t been any help as to why it is so slow in download speeds.

I went to my Verizon COR store today to get a 5G SIM card for my unlocked 12 Pro. They installed a 5G SIM and I turned the phone back on. I wasn't able to get 5G and I told the Verizon rep. He said that was normal because they don't even have 5G service yet in their area. I was astonished when he said that because we're in the Orlando FL area which isn't exactly Timbuck Two. But what's really annoying is how their store has multiple Verizon 5G posters plastered all over their store and yet they are okay with admitting the service isn't there yet.

Good God................

These are my Verizon 5G vs WiFi (Spectrum, Google WiFi) speeds in NYC. I forced the 5G on with streaming YouTube videos. Not as overwhelming as I thought. Then again, I can tell it’s faster than their LTE service. There’s an Ultra Wideband street down the avenue from me. May go check it out tomorrow.

I just turned mine off. All I saw different was less battery life and spotty speeds in areas where LTE is rock solid. 5G seems like a mess. And I’ve tried it now in Florida , Atlanta area and parts of Tennessee.

In my area (Sacramento CA region), I'm seeing 80-200 mbps download on 5G and generally more bars of signal than before. It's not millimeter-wave speeds but it's still an improvement and plenty fast enough for efficient browsing. I'm happy with the upgrade.

LTE vs 5G. Taken minutes apart at same location.

I appreciate the link. I went to it and what I found was interesting. They are claiming everywhere around me, 30 min in every direction, has 5g service. However, every person I know that has a 5g phone and service plan is NOT getting any 5g on their phones. Is Verizon lying?

Seems like Verizon has been slow to roll out low-mid band 5G. I've been very happy with the low band 5G speeds I've been getting with Tmo.

I’m in Ohio (South of Columbus in a small city) and definitely think that 5G (non UW) is a decent improvement. I’m getting speeds about 7x faster on 5G, but it’s still not as fast as our home WiFi. Overall, I’m satisfied and am excited to see the speed difference when I go to a large city.

100%

I think if people buy the new phones specifically for the 5G aspect, they will be disappointed (overall). I really don’t see why so many are mad their 5G signal stinks when they new ahead of time, that that would (more than likely) be the case for the new term.

You guys get the middle Range(once it’s in your city)So it’s between low band 5G(the widespread one) and ultraband(mmwave) So what that does is it gives you high speeds at a wider coverage area and goes through walls and buildings!

fyi-ultra wide band is the term just for Verizon mmwave

Yeah 5G sucks and is a major scam man.

The carriers and the phone manufacturers had to come up with something quick to try to entice us to upgrade.

And will always be, as it is short distance and doesn't go through obstructions such as walls.

They placed a bad bet on Ultraband. They don't have enough lower band spectrum.

T-Mobile is the only one to do mid range 5G 2.5ghz roll outs. And they are rolling it out quick, Doubled their coverage map in a month. So T-Mobile users will get to reep the benifits more than any other carriers for a while!

Their lead over AT&T and Verizonwill likely keep increasing.

"T-Mobile continues to expand its 5G network in ways that its rivals cannot match."

"The New Street analysts argue that AT&T and Verizon may never catch up to T-Mobile's lead in 5G spectrum ownership"
