iPhone 12 Pro 5G definitely ain't no bag of chips. Anyone else agree?

5G UW is gimmicky at best, somewhat useful for congested areas at worst.

Verizon was really betting it all on 5G UW and we don’t know yet if this was the right move or not. AT&T and T-Mobile went with mid band 5G first.

The speeds are nice with 5G UW but it’s literally just a number on a Speedtest.

I downloaded an episode on Netflix connected to 5G UW and it took about a minute to download (the episode was about 1.2GB large) - that’s still only roughly 150-200mbps while every speed test I was running was over 2gbps.

With the speeds I was being quoted at I was thinking it would download in seconds, nope.

I’m sure at concert venues or big events it’ll be useful. Otherwise, meh.

Just because the pipeline can support 2Gbps doesn’t mean both iphone can receive it and server at Netflix can pump it out that fast. More than likely Netflix server was the constraining factor in your case.

What I have experienced so far real world is, better connection, less dropped calls, and quite a bit faster sometimes 3-4 times as fast over LTE with the Qualcomm modem chip and antenna setup in the 12 pro vs the 11 Pro. Also subjectively have feeling I have clearer calls then with 11 Pro. Is it because of the Qualcomm chip? Better antenna setup? Or might it be something to do with upgrade to elite unlimited contract with AT&T.

All I know is I am happy with results. Still lease phone monthly on Next, new elite unlimited costing same as previous non unlimited contract and as 5G gets better, I am all set to take advantage of it. Leaving phone on auto 5G/LTE. Yes the Apple hype was overboard for 5G, but they can’t come on and say their previously used Intel modem chip is for sh*t, can they. Even if it is. Just a shame the Qualcomm 60 chip came out too late for the iPhone 12. Understand it uses less juice.

It wasn't. 5G UW will certainly get better so may work well for those in the limited areas where it is available, and works. Highlights are mine.

"According to a recent estimate, Magenta owns more mid-band 5G spectrum than its two arch-rivals combined, and even though Verizon and AT&T are expected to make up some of that difference after a major upcoming FCC auction, T-Mobile's technological advantage might already be impossible to eliminate altogether... for good.

I am going to try out 5G just see how it compares to LTE speeds. Once that is done, I will enable LTE only mode for better battery life. 5G is not the reason I am purchasing a iPhone 12. Getting improved LTE speed is a nice side benefit. To me that is more important right now.

I have Verizon and our area has good LTE coverage along with 5G service according to their coverage map on their website. But I'm really disappointed with how slow the 5G speeds are in my area. Apparently there is the basic 5G service then there's the 5G UltraBand service which from what I understand is very very limited at this time. Okay, I get that. But I surely would have thought 5G basic would be as fast as the current 4G LTE speeds in my area if not faster. Hell no. I'm getting like 6mbps on 5G in my area.

Who else is disappointed with their 5G service?
Can’t wait to get the 12 Pro.

No 5G in my area, at least I don’t think so, this is my LTE speed at home. It’s pretty decent although I’m always on wifi at home.

I’m loving my 5g service overall, mostly I just enjoy the 200-400mbs speed tests because they are visually pleasing hah.

There was so much anti-hype around 5G in response to Apple's hype that I had really low expectations. But having ~230mbps when I go out (a 6x speed boost compared to LTE), is a really nice-to-have upgrade. It's like taking my home WiFi with me. That's all I could have realistically hoped for at this point.

I bet you see no difference from home WiFi and the old LTE. Reality the phone doesn’t need 5g.

I'm disappointed in the coverage. Allegedly, my house has 5G nationwide coverage according to the VZW website, but I only get LTE unless I venture around the city. When I have had 5G, the speeds have been lackluster to say the least. Although I'm disappointed in the 5G experience so far, it's important to remember that this is only the beginning of 5G. As more customers purchase 5G phones, VZW and the other carriers will have the impetus to improve their 5G coverage. So I'm disappointed right now, but optimistic for the near future.

5G on a phone is incredibly overrated. Nothing to get excited about. For other applications yes, but not on a phone. Not yet.
